Mount Airy is missing Eden Morehead & Surry Central. I can't remember them not playing Surry Central a county school 10 miles away in last 50 years. I may be wrong just going on memory. Could be Mount Airy has beat SC 140-14 the last 3 years non-conference. Need better competition for non-conference since they are 2A. Mount Airy ,North Surry, East Surry, and Surry have been 3A, 2A, and 1A over the years.
Question is will it be a larger gate then a county team. As I said this early and may change but got this from a good source. Wilkes Central would have been a better choice than Alleghany but schedule may have not worked with them that week.
Mount Airy plays Reidsville the week after East Surry plays Reidsville.

I understand adding Reidsville as better competition, but hard to say that adding Alleghany is better than Surry Central on a regular basis. Lets not forget that 3 seasons ago (2015) SC beat MA 20-0.

My thoughts also but Surry Central may have been the one wanting out to play someone they had a better chance to beat for playoff reasons.

Only reason Central isn't playing MA is because of the North Forsyth reshuffling. NF moving to the WPAC for 2 years completely messed up the football schedule for several other WPAC members. Casualty of that is SC having to drop MA. This was not by choice, but because the new schedule conflicted with the date that the MA/SC game was originally scheduled for.

My understanding is that North Forsyth being added to the conference made Surry Central reshuffle their schedule. They sent 2 dates to Mount Airy, and Mount Airy declined both dates. Alleghany will be a much smaller gate than Surry Central would bring, JV or Varsity.

I wonder what the rest of Alleghany's schedule looks like? cant believe we dropped a definite win south stokes with mount airy. Wonder if we still play north stokes bishop and grayson county

The placement of N Forsyth is good for them, but bad for the rest. Missing a favorable non conference event for a cruddy gate when the North Forsyth Vikings come to town.

NF getting added in is making a mess for everyone else at such a late stretch of the pre-season. I heard talks of this happening before the season last year; wasn't for it but what can ya do when the state buts in? It screwed SC's schedule up. it screwed ours, it screwed everyone's who isn't in Winston proper.

SC is 50/50 here. On the downside they lose their biggest gate in terms of people attending in the odd years in MA. It's gonna hurt them pretty good because NF like most of the Forsyth schools don't bring anyone besides a few die hards and their band, they are gonna have to rely on their gates in 2020 vs East and Us more and their '19 homecoming game. But on the plus side they can possibly get a South/North Stokes or a team that they can compete with on the schedule and maybe get a non con win. Their NC schedule the past two years has been really brutal to them and they haven't won a non con game since '16. They need that to put theirselves on the up.

MA meanwhile got a raw deal due to the lack of options so late. I bet Adkins knowing Lyon probably helped make that deal happen.

As for our schedule the way it's looking now it's all over the place on how it could look. We had it 100% done before the end of the year last year. We were dropping CSD for Alleghany week 4 and we had the paperwork a-okayed then the realignment happened and I guess it ruined that. I guess we could be playing them week 1 perhaps but it's looking unlikely unless I'm wrong.. who knows with the fine details. A week 1 bye's gonna suck though and I hope it don't happen. Conference wise our schedule's gonna be 100% different.

From what I heard around the mill Lyon wants to beef up the All Conference schedule to make Alleghany battle tested for the start of conference. He messaged us out of the blue wanting to play to prep them for Ashe as they run our offense and we said sure. Had the paperwork 100% and the forced re-alignment happened and I guess we had to drop.. not 100% sure. Hoping we play week 1 as an endowment game perhaps.

I know for sure South's gone; I bet North Stokes is too. Probably gonna keep Grayson due to the rivalry aspect.

Seems that larger than 5 times the size of Surry Co. open enrollment Forsyth has control over 1A & 2A schools in Surry Co. (Sports)

No Alleghany wanted to play tougher competition. Dropping both North and South Stokes for North Surry and Mount Airy. I think North Stokes is opening with South Davidson then playing Chatam Central, North Moore, West Stokes, Patrick County and Hobbton in non-conference. Can not remember last time that North opened season against someone other than Alleghany.

Not a bad schedule for North Stokes at all. I kinda figured a private school or two would be on it but not bad. If they stay healthy and come together with those sophomores I can see them having a multiple win year if they do everything right.

South's not gonna be easy as they beat Atkins last year so the Vikes are gonna have to come ready, same for CC as they are well coached despite not many kids. NM's gonna be a slugfest. Same for Patrick Co they slipped by 2 years back; the seniors haven't forgotten that hopefully. Even though West is still West I'm glad they are playing again.

Alleghany also dropped bishop mcguinness and replaced them with walkertown. Is walkertown good?

Walkertown will have athletes but they have fallen off alot since their western regional run in 2015. Should be a winnable game for Alleghany.

Walkertown's hard to figure year in and out. I really have no clue how they will be in 2019.

2017 they were hideous on varsity, line was terrible but they had good speed. Their best kid a transfer from Carver was hurt the whole year. Last year their HC quit a month and a half before the season started for Wilkes Central and they put the HC from North Stokes who had to fold the team in charge as the interim. Wasn't expecting much from them but I have to admit he didn't do that bad, but he had that kid at RB and a lot of seniors. We came in big headed and we had a thriller with them but we figured out how to win and it helped us the 2nd half of the year. HC did a good job and they shoulda kept him but they didn't.

They will be much younger this year as a lot of their better players are gone. JV's weren't that good but they play hard. The ones they get back on varsity are okay. They will be more than likely in the Wing T this year which will be odd as they have always been spread but the Wing is what their new HC loves to run. I don't know if i'd label Alleghany the straight up favorite as WT's gonna have the speed edge by far and can do the big plays like easy but if Alleghany's line comes ready to hit and keep the ball away they can do it. Walkertown's easy to get flustered if you come out ready to hit as what happened in 2017 for us.

Lyon's gonna take heat for his scheduling but I admire his willingness to go for it.

South Stokes used to play Alleghany in week 4. South was told Alleghany wasn't going to renew the contract for 19-20 so the Sauras picked up McMichael for week 4 which is a rivalry game, which will be a much better gate than what Allehany was.
