I’ve knew about this for awhile, I can’t read it either, but in a nutshell, good bye Gately, and as much as I didnt mind Gately, this is a good thing. It’s going to be a two year project....this year look to have seating for about 2,000, with an additional 500-700 coming the following year with endzone stands. This coming year a full press box and lights will be added. Next year new field turf, and full concession stand. Until then they will have concessions the way they currently do it.

It’s going to be a small stadium, and our Rice friends will get their revenge I’m sure on our comments about their visitor stands : ), but this is s real good thing for the school. To rent out Gately for 4 regular season games, with two bus rentals, cost MC $17,000. Add 2 playoff games and your looking at $26,000. We got a small % of the gate and none of the concessions, now we get it all. Now our family’s, students and potential students don’t have to get wanded and frisked to enter a high school football game. I know as a former player, I hated getting back on a bus for a HOME game and going back to MC, now they can leave straight from there.

Many great memories and battles at Gately and never a bad seat in the house, but this is a good thing for the Caravan.

How’s parking? I haven’t been to the campus in a couple years since a SR MC baseball game.

Not bad, will be tight for the bigger games as all are, but we have the main lot, and access to three other lots, including a large grass lot. With those plus nobody parks along the street around MC but MC people, they should be OK. Fathers Club will have to step up big time directing traffic

Sounds good. Congratulations, great decision. Hopefully a playoff matchup is in the near future for our 2 schools.

Do they plan to host a possible game vs Providence Catholic where lawn chairs won’t be required? Or better yet could it be a new home field for the Chicago Prep Bowl? I guess this also would end the rumor that a Chicago Catholic school was relocating to the Lincoln-Way North campus.

Lawn chairs are required only for forfeits.

Thanks MC63 for the heads up on the lawnchair situation. Any inside info on the move to LWN or the new site for the Prep Bowl?

Never bother with or acknowledge them. Trust people, they’re smart, they know when someone’s being a tool bag.
I’m done playing now. MC63 isn’t the only one that can be a diverter of infinite wisdom originating from the Mount Carmel Caravan when hijacking others threads.

What about the $5 tailgate lot? Will it be relocated to the 66th and Blackstone vacant lot?

I hate to be cat amongst the pigeons here, but how much parking can Carmel and surrounding areas handle? I can remember basketball games where parking is an issues can't imagine what will happen with football.

No worries. Plenty of parking in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Will that one revrun who scotched the Green Line being extended back to Stony rent out his big lot on the other side of the Metra?

Another good thread thrown off topic and probably ruined
Back on topic. PC doesn't travel well. We learned that this year . How does BR, LA, and SR travel? Rate the crowds. I know you think the seating will small but honestly who's going to fill them?

Out of the three teams mentioned that I saw MC play at Gately over the years, Rita traveled the best. LA is too long of a hike for many of the students . When BR had great teams in 15 and 16, they played MC at home, 17 they played at Gately and the season was all but over for them at that point so the crowd was small and we didn’t play them this season so who knows, but because of the rivilary and maybe because SR isn’t located in the best of areas either, SR travels well to Gately.

BR and Marist get great walk up crowds. That’s why the Southside Grade Championship game has been played at Rice and the All Star game has been at Marist the past three years, they get the walk up which is more gate money for the conference. SR doesn’t get walk up crowds but it’s not hard to fly down Western Ave and dump your kids off. MC will get no walk up and it’s a bit more difficult to drop the kids off so it will be smaller crowds, mostly MC fans, but at least what we take in financially will be ours.

Wait and see how it goes but Caravan Nation is happy about it!

Other than a handful of real rivalry games, the visitor stands at any game appear to be small. In regard to the CCL the days of large schools and large crowds are waning.

I wonder if MC will play on Saturday's not trying to start something here but just a thought.

Would have been sweet to relocate to Frankfort Square and help out us taxpayers down South. LW North has plenty of bleachers and parking. Heck, Providence Catholic would even visit your new facilities.

Over the years I would rate the crowds at Gatley:

SR
LA if its Saturday
BR
Providence.

If it’s a Friday game for LA then flip the rankings with BR.

I'm excited to show up at BR-MC game this fall with a large College Gameday type banner declaring "HEY FEETO LET'S DISCUSS THESE VISITOR'S BLEACHERS!"

I look forward to it. One thing I know is that it will be a much better place to see a game than Rice. The fact that thee is no track between fans and the field guarantees that.

We can beg to differ on that. Sounds like you will only have 2000 seats on only one side of the field, with the possibility of some end zone seating in the future. Doesn’t sound like such a great place to watch a game to me. I doubt that the 15-20 feet our track takes up makes a big impact on the ability to take in a game, as a matter of fact it hasn’t once bothered me. But, I see the narrative changing from the cramped visitor stands (compared to no visitor stands at all) to the fact that we have a track. But I do wish MC the best of luck in the endeavor. I think it’s been long overdue. On a serious note, could this have been another factor in the Lenti seperation? I’m not joking when I say the timing is kinda curious that this move takes place in Year 1 A.F. (After Frank). I’m sure this topic was brought up before, was Coach Lenti on board with it?

Coach Frank loved "Gately Dogs" !!!!!!!!! I'd see him down 4 or 5 before every home game.
