Muschamp vs Beamer. The numbers are similar should we have kept Muschamp?

Muschamp 28-30 overall. 17-22 in Sec
Beamer 32-25 overall. 16-20 in SEC
Both had one 9 win season.

Will Beamer have more SEC wins than Muschamp by seasons end? I doubt it. We not serious about football.

I think so. Muschamp just had terrible luck at UF and USC getting a QB to hit. He landed a lot of high rated ones, they just never panned out. It was a matter of time before he landed one and won a lot. Afterall he did win a Sugar Bowl at UF.

I'm on the fence. Shame has banked some really big wins, but his OC hires............I wouldn't shed tears if he's pink slipped, but if he's our coach in 2026, he will have to have made a massive OC hire splash.
He wont. He will keep Mike Shula. He has to. If he fires Shula, everyone will say he scapegoated Teasley and players liked Teasley. That wont go well

NIL/portal has skewed any of this.
Relecutantly, at this stage: Will was the better recruiter, but could not dig out of his hole.
With some better coaches + recruiting, Shane can make a come back.

NO! Under no circumstance should we have kept William Larry Muschamp.
The on-field performance under each appears comparable, but I like Beamer's attitude and personality better. Hence better to have let muschamp go. Now if Beamer had done worse on the field, my response would be different.

Regardless, it's still Beamer, notwithstanding who is HC.

Then he'll be fired.

The Chump never put a competitive team on the field vs. that school upstate. Beamer has beaten them twice. Beamer also has numerous top ten wins. The Chump......not so much. Beamer has been better than Chump, but that's a low bar.

The OP only asked one question and that is an easy one to answer. No, under no circumstances should we have kept Muschamp.

I won't try to answer the ones he didn't ask.

I have said this in other posts. Just looking at overall record for their entire tenure isn't a way to look at it. Muschamp was 6-13 in his last two seasons. That is why he was fired.

Beamer is on his way to a 4-8 record this year (most likely). If he starts out 2-5 next year or anything similar, he too will be fired. It is no different than what happened with Muschamp.

Does his buyout decrease every year w/o a new contract? I'd give him another year if it saves us money.

Yes. Buyouts are usually a percentage of the remaining contract unless you Texas A&M it and give fully guaranteed money. So without raises and extensions the buyouts decrease.

BUT this is South Carolina where a 7-6 season will get you an extension. So the buyout will decrease this year but nothing off the table either way next season.

I agree, he did terrible. But I think of this Clemson team, or the last few years, compared to those national title teams? So very different. No comparison, imo.
Shame has still managed to bat 1.000 at Frank Howard Field. Spurrier was 3-2 there. Morrison was 1-1-1. Fat Bradstard was 2-1.

I agree. I just think they played different teams there.

I really think we're agreeing, just pointing out different aspects of the same story.

Say what you will about Muschamp. I was against his hiring , too. But his last 4 recruiting classes averaged a 19th ranking (to supposedly recruiting wizard Beamer's 20th). Muschamp left Beamer some talent.

Perhaps, but we'll never know. Muschamp was responsible for 56-7, 34-10, 56-21, & 38-3. Damn that man!
Eh, Clemson did that to A LOT of teams during the span. Lost 4 games in 4 seasons, and 2 of those were in title games. Shoot, they walked Bama up and down the field in the title game.

Jesus could be our coach. It wouldn't matter.
Just save the $$$.
Jesus proved He had comeback potential. Our coaches have had finite and short shelf lives in terms of effectiveness. When they are used up, they usually stay used up.

Even Morrison was essentially finished; it was just a matter of another year to let the fanbase be ready to accept it. We were awful in 1988, despite our record, and were about to sign a milquetoast class.

I'm not saying flat-out that Shane can't turn it, but he's going to have to work his @$$ off and make no mistakes in his fixes to pull this off.

I bet to differ about '88. An awful team doesn't beat the Gator Bowl champion & 15th final ranked Georgia Bulldogs by 2 TDs, nor does an awful team go into Raleigh, at night, and beat an eventual 8-win & Peach Bowl champion NC State Wolfpack.

Every game we lost was a double-digit shelling, and one of them was in the top five of most embarrassing defeats we ever tasted, at home a week after the NC Sate game you mentioned. No good team loses the way we lost that year. None. Nada. The program was sinking.

I'm so glad that's all behind us!
