That is the same thought I had. Sign the kids early and they are less able to change their minds."The proposal would create two, 72-hour early signing periods beginning on the last Wednesday in June and in mid-December."
The June signing period would be great for us. Help cut out players in changing their minds if they sign on the dotted line. Plus they would not be influenced by a disappointing season and they likely really want to be here. The December one would be totally affected by the season, for better or for worse. Also would get to account for coaches getting fired.
but to be fair I think provisions should be put in (probably for all sports) that if the coach who was in the job at the time you signed is fired or leaves for another job, the kid should be released from the letter if they request it
Totally right. Coaches like Meyer want to snag recruits from people like us when they lose a couple at the end.Meyer, Saban, Harbaugh & other superpower coaches/programs will once again get any proposed early signing period killed, watch & see. They hate the idea of schools like Kentucky identifying talent & then getting them locked down, unable to be stolen away come Dec/Jan when the power schools need to fill out their classes. The power schools all battle for the same top 20 players, when they turn down Alabama/Ohio State/Michigan/Texas then alternative bodies must be found - commits at lower level schools.

Just takes away the most exciting day of the off season.
I don't think it is very exciting at least from our perspective. We probably know already 95% of the players that are going to sign with us in advance. We're lucky if we have 2 or 3 surprises a year. For basketball it is different. One key player announces for your school and it is a huge deal. He might make up 20% of the recruiting class. Compare that to football where one player might make up 4% of the class. So it isn't very exciting from our point of view in my opinion. Maybe for the big schools who are competing for 4 and 5 star players that wait to announce until signing day, but we get very few of those.
happens pretty frequently actually, a guy who is committed to UK months later gets a Bama offer late in the summerbut Bama has 40+, including a P5 head coach, do you really think UK or anyone else is going to find a player they aren't aware of?
