The Cotton Bowl is the game this year that will have the highest rated team from the AAC, CUSA, MAC, Mountain West and Sunbelt. The key to this is that it is the highest ranked conference champion. Here are the schools that seems to be in the running right now and their chances:

Western Michigan - has the upper hand. Toledo and/or the MAC Championship could trip them up.
Boise State/Wyoming/SDSU - only one of these teams will win the Mountain West, leaving two out in the cold.
Houston - in trouble of not winning their division of CUSA.
Troy - plays App State and Ark State at home (other 2 undefeated conference teams). Great chance of winning out. There is not a Sun Belt Championship Game.

We all know that if Western Michigan wins out, they will take the spot. If WMU slips up, Troy has a legit shot at going to the Cotton Bowl if they win out. They would be 11-1, with their 1 loss being at Clemson by 6 points. I'm rooting for Neal

I'd like to see that too since they're basically my second team. I've watched all their games this year.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I threw that out just for shizz and giggles but I see a scenario where Botch and their program collapses. Remember too that their AD is retiring, some say forced out, so that could be interesting also.

My thoughts exactly. I Remember when it was a top tier bowl that basically took the highest ranked SEC west team that wasn't in the BCS.
It's still a top their bowl. This is their year to take the non Power 5 team. It's been the Fiesta (2014), Peach (2015) and now Cotton (2016). The Rose, Sugar and Orange will also take their turn.
