Have a 3gs out of contract with AT&T. Thinking about getting a new iPhone with C Spire. Does the iPhone on C Spire lack any functionality that the iPhone on AT&T does?

I'm about 4-5 days from making the switch to the iphone with cspire myself.

Will the data pick back up itself after the call has ended?

Have not been able to text pics in the past. Still can't with Galaxy so I assume same for iphone. You can download an app for it though. Whatsapp works fine. It's like BBM for anybody that's had a Blackberry.

The picture messaging is included in the new cspire plans. I am on an old plan that was grandfathered in for the iphone. I only pay $79 per month and I think around $5 for the picture messaging. I had a 3gs on AT&T at one time and it seems the 4s on Cspire is much better. My understanding is you get unlimited everything on the new plans for $100.</p>

New plans:
picture text messaging
No unlimited streaming, only 30 minutes of streaming

Grandfathered plans:
No picture text messaging
Unlimited streaming

I hope when I upgrade my CSpire POS HTC Hero to a Iphone4S, they will keep my plan grandfathered.

Oh, and when your data is interrupted by a voice call, the data keeps going after the call is over. I use my phone for GPS/google maps and when a call comes in the google maps gps stuff picks right back up when the call is over.

Have a p.o.s. hero, contract is up and looking to get an iPhone. Never owned anything Apple. Kind of leary with all the proprietary stuff.

Anybody got any recommendations one way or the other regarding iPhone vs Android?

I'll be staying with CSpire because the coverage is much better in less populated areas than the other companys. I know I don't want the old Galaxy S. My wife has that and it's not much better than my Zero. Not familiar with any of the others, and the Galaxy S II hasn't made it's way to CSpire yet.

My wife talked to a C-Spire employee who said a small percent of customers use the streaming, and the would give in if they get a lot of negative feedback on the goofy 30 minutes per month of streaming.

If nothing else, we need streaming for the times when we are out of town so we can listen to the games via the Tune-in app.

half off unlimited plan and they left it as is but that could have been cause I'm still on it too until April. They actually gave us $40 trade in on that piece of crap Hero so remind them of that when you do it. They were trying hard to get us to give up the old plan i.e. unlimited streaming but I'm not going to till they make me. The new voice and data will cost me $20 less but it will cost us $60 for both to have unlimited streaming so net increase of $40

I re-upped in October to make sure I locked in the "old" unlimited plan for another 2 yrs. I got a Milestone X and the wife got a Galaxy S. She's on her third one now and went and got a new battery today! The Milestone X is the same as the Droid X on Verizon. I'm certainly not a "power" user, but I get a day's use easily from the battery and the reception is great. I travel a lot and stream Pandora the whole time, too.

you can multitask on any iphone4 or 4s<div>
</div><div>you can use talk and surf on wifi on any iphone4 or 4s</div><div>
</div><div>you can talk and text on any iphone4 or 4s</div><div>
</div><div>the only thing at&t gives you is the ability to talk and surf while out and on the road. at&t also has hspa+ on their iphone 4s with little to no hspa+ coverage in MS. For those 2 little plusses, the tradeoffs are big. You have to put up with AT&T dropped calls, expensive data plans and worse battery life.</div><div>
</div><div>its been my experience that cspire/cellsouth has the best voice and data coverage. people say verizon has good coverage but i have had friends with verizon iphones that dont get signal when i do, happens all the time</div><div>

Verizon and Sprint roam on Cspire. So in Mississippi they are the same in theory. (But but..my friend with a Verizon phone has less coverage here than my Cspire phone...Well, that's the phone, not the network. Phones vary.

I travel out of state occasionally, and Cspire sucks out of state. They have coverage, but the phone is constantly confused about what network it is supposed to be on. It constantly jumps on an off the network, registering indefinitely, sapping battery life, and missing calls in the process. In short, Cspire doesn't have their roaming configurations setup very well.

For national coverage, there is no substitute for a Verizon, Sprint, AT&T.

With sprint I get very little data coverage and I am always roaming when hunting in South Bovina.
I took my wifes Ipad2 with Verizon and I can watch ESPN3 with 3 bars. I know Cellsouth also works similar there as does AT&T.

Thanks fir the info Flab.

GPS does not use data. You cannot use data while talking on the phone. However, GPS is completely different than data. You can use GPS and talk on the phone at the same time. I've done it many times.

I'm in the market to upgrade but will probably stick with AT&T. I get a bit of a corporate discount on the voice plan... maybe $10-$15 that makes their price not quite as bad.

My experience on the Cspire website does not encourage me to buy anything from them. I don't know what it is, but for some reason that is the hardest website in the world for me to use. Everytime I go there to try & look at their plans / phones, I get pissed off & just say 17 it.</p>

Totally disagree. CSpire's network is much slower and way more splotchy than ATT. This is one of the two reasons I left CellSouth 2 years ago. After being a customer for 12 years, I had enough. I travel a good bit for work and you can kiss your voice service goodbye when you are anywhere outside of CSpire's "local area". Horrible experience...

Yes, you will be able to use the positioning function on the GPS, but you can NOT stream the map because you arereceivingthis data via the phone signal. Your map will not update when you are talking on the phone. OP4 is right on the money with his comment.

its a LOT better now. not sure where you were traveling or whatever but i am seeing the exact opposite as you and I know you drop calls regularly and just put up with it if you have AT&T.

From what I see all the time, Verizon is not at all the same as Cspire in Mississippi. Debunk that theory. Sprints "unlimited" plan only allows 300MB roaming, which you will do a lot of in MS as all Sprint iPhone users have already found out. AT&T drops calls and is rated the worst for 2 years and counting by Consumer Reports because of this. For the average user, Cspire is the right choice. I have only had 1-2 times traveling that I didnt have voice and data service with Cspire and I travel often.

TeleNav has offline USA maps that don't require data connection. The free iPhone apps like MapQuest require data but the good ones that cost a few bucks work offline using cell signal and satellite GPS.

If your iMessage feature on your phone is enabled and you are sending them iPhone to iPhone. Must have 3G or better. And update your software if you haven't done so in a while.
