No Choice For Stoops But To Cut The DC Loose

I would have a whole lot more respect and support for Stoops if he got rid of his DC. If he does not want to run him out of town perhaps make him an advisor or position coach. The DC has been a problem for 3 1/2 years now.

Stoops knows this because he had to take over that job responsibility and let the DC observe. It is time to make that move and start looking around.

I don't think it is exactly accurate to say Stoops has "no choice". But JMO, if Stoops is to succeed at Kentucky, Eliot must go and Stoops must turn the defense over to someone who can develop a real SEC defense with a pass rush. Everyone goes through transitions in their lives. Defense may be Stoops' comfort zone, but he is a head coach now. If he is learning to think like a head coach, then he has to let go of Eliot now and hire a qualified SEC coordinator. Even if he does, the future success of our defense still depends in large part on recruiting.

Honestly, I think we have a good arrangement right now.

The defense has looked better (we'll see how it looks over the next few games) and if Stoops is heavily engaged with the defense it keeps him from meddling with Gran's offense.

On thing is that it doesn't appear Elliot has been much help on the recruiting trail, so if I was in Stoops position I would be looking for a hot shot recruiter

Get a DC who can recruit the big uglies we need up front, let Stoops keep the playcalling duties.

Stoops lets Eliot go, UK DC next year will be Matt House. Then hire another LB coach to replace Eliot. Or....swap Eliot/House.

at seasons end a major staffing overhaul is paramount to the program and CMS' career.

If he doesn't want to get rid of his buddy DJ then he can reassign him to special assistant and give him more recruiting responsibility.

I would say the DL coach needs to go as well.

Then CMS along with everyone else associated with the program from boosters to Scratch need to march into MB's office and demand that he and the accountants make room for some guys to be the top paid at their position in the country.

Then they all need to get on the phones and hit up all of the following:

-Big Bayou Ed...has extensive P5 and SEC experience

-Charlie (if looking for a gig)...we know his cred...

-Derek Mason (if he's canned)...maybe not HC material at this time but was a solid assistant for harbaugh, and a pretty good defensive coach...

-Randy Shannon...very good defenses at Miami as the DC...knows the recruiting trails

Last thing we need is more recruiting responsibility for dj. He's even less productive there, somehow.

Unless stoops wins 6, it'll be tough to hire anyone due to job uncertainty. May as well leave dj in the booth with his binoculars, out of the way. Worked well last 2 games

He is now a "Special Assistant" keeping the booth warm.

Yeah, he will be let go. But I'm not sure why everyone is in such a hurry to do it this week. Not going to find a replacement now. Let him continue to help out. Look on from the booth. And make a change after the season.

And not sure House should be his replacement. Courtney Love's coach hasn't earned that yet.

Why in the world did it take 3 yrs and 3 games to realize the DC was the problem.

I'm still expecting 6 wins in 2020. That's when the new coach after Stoops is put out of his misery in 2017, will have a couple of recruiting classes. See you then.
