For clearing out at halftime.

The mass exodus from Scott Field last night at halftime was atrocious.
I feared being trampled if I stood in front of an exit.

The emptiness of our stands in the 2nd half was kind of embarassing, to me at least.
And, there were perhaps 2 dozen students left; OK, maybe 3 dozen.

Happy Homecoming!

<div style="text-align: left;">I was in the student section until the buzzer sounded. I made it back for nearly the entire fourth quarter and OT of the Bama game. It doesn't appear that I missed much. The same fans that weren't at the game or left earyly will be crying after the Bama game (if we lose) talking about how we will never be able to compete with the "big boys". Everyone needs to stop pointing fingers at the players and coaching staff and realize it takes everyone to build a premier program.

even for our game last year - one of their endzone upper decks wasn't even 1/2 full. The other one was full b/c State people sat up there.

Hell, I remember staying there till the end while getting beat senseless by LSU in the pouring rain sometime in the Croom error.

However, I havn't stayed past halftime in a cupcake homecoming in years. I absolutely hate the halftime "pageantry," who cares if you won the college popularity contest. As you can probably guess, also not a "greek."

extreme heat, and through a few tornado warnings. However, it would have been a slam dunk to leave that game yesterday before halftime....if I had been there in the first place!

(even greeks) will tell you the same thing. No other school in the SEC does all the crap for homecoming as we do, and it's a complete waste of time. No one cares except for the 10 sorority chicks squealing in the stands when your name is called (who are secretly jealous because they didn't run or get elected). Call their names out before pregame or something like that, but all the ******** high school stuff we do is completely stupid.

It was sort of like you had a wedding to attend but MSU(TV) scheduled a game.
I can't count the number of games that I attended that had say 30,000 people over the years.
Our attendance has been outstanding!,... Over the last ten years, our attendance has been outstanding considering our won loss record.
We survived the Kangs last years and Crooms tenure.

Dog's you have done good!

People didn't leave this game because it was homecoming and we were mercilessly beating UT-Martin. People left this game because it was homecoming, we were mercilessly beating UT-Martin, and the most built up game in my lifetime was being played at the same time. Yesterday was the first time in my life I have ever left a MSU game early. I left at the end of the 3rd quarter and feel no remorse about it. If you really think that State is the only school where this would happen you are seriously mistaken. I guarantee you if Alabama was playing Jackson State, and #1 Florida and #2 LSU were playing at the same time, there would be a dismal crowd after halftime of the Bama game as well. Lighten up everybody we have been filling the stands for every game the past two years. These were special circumstances. Had our game been close I would have been there til the end.<div>
</div><div>I will say that it does bother me that people decided not even to go into our game in order to watch the Bama-LSU game. That is messed up in my opinion.</div>

Started activelygoing to state gamesafterbeginningemployment with MSU in 1999. Igraduated fromtwoother schoolsthat havevery good football teams and proud of their traditions. One isin the SEC. I do not stay home or leaveearly fromMSU football games "ever"SO I CAN WATCH THEOTHER TEAMS PLAY BIG GAMES. I root for MSU and support them.I can tape those other games or see highlights. I now see why fans of this team can not expect better since many DONOT REALLY KNOW OR CARE HOW TO SUPPORT THEIR TEAM. I watched at the end of the homecoming game as our team went to the student section and band to see almost no students.I wondered how the team members felt seeing empty seats. I would not know what to say toour recruits attending our gameabout why they should select MSU over a BAMA or LSU after this cluster.Oh it wasn't just the students. Old fart is right about our similar attitude as da bear fans.</p>

Alabama... in 2008 they were beating the **** out of us at the start of the 4th quarter... cold night and many people hit the exits way before the end of the game. Same thing happened at 2008 at Tennessee and 2009 at Auburn. What DS was saying about Alabama was true for Georgia, Alabama last year, Auburn in 2008, and even Florida last year. Complaining about this sort of thing does no good when TV schedules a cupcake homecoming game over probably the most hyped college game in recent memory. <div>
</div><div>Also, no recruit is going to make their decision based on attendance at a blowout homecoming game halfway through the second half. Hell, they probably went back to their hotel rooms and watched LSU/Bama. Our fan support has MUCH improved because I, too, remember going to big SEC games late in the season with one or two wins and both upper decks would be empty, the endzone student seats would be empty, and no one would be near the edges of the stands. </div>

Watch our 3rd team play UT-Martin or watch the two best college football teams in the country play? Really.

Of course I'd like to see a full house every game, but let's not act like this is a phenomenon unique to MSU.

spotted better seats that had not been taken. All the while he was next to me, he kept me appraised of what was going on in the Bama game. I told him that I was leaving at half time if the ***-whipping was on at our place. He said he wanted to also but he was going to stay to see if his son got to play due to the ***-whipping. I told him that there would probably be hell to pay if he left to watch Bama/LSU and missed his son getting to play. He said "Not really. He wants to watch it too.".

state didn't win 10 games over the 4 years i was a student...doesn't matter, cause i love this school...i'm 64 now and have had season tkts for the last 16 years...don't miss games...this is the first game we've left early in our 16 years...our daughter and her husband also attended state...my wife went to ole miss and is even a sorority adviser there, but would rather go to state games...she'll only go to the ole miss/state game is starkville...her call...we got to campus at 2 pm and did the whole tailgate thing, like we always to, but with a function to attend in collierville, tn (our home) on sunday we elected to leave early...sorry, but i hate this new scheduling...next week is worse, and i might leave early even if we're winning...
i flew nights at fedex for 32 years and being retired i seldom stay up past midnight unless i'm paid...sorry, you can't afford me! so don't judge us...just enjoy the dogs and i hope you're enjoying them when you get to be my age...
now grow up, you twit...

I caught the end of it on the car radio as I was leaving our game.

Our fans have been great!

55,000+ at the gate, we were easily going to win.
Gumps #2 vs Tigers #1, hard to pass up, considering all.

but they were not critical. They figured the temptation to hit the HC parties and the Bama-LSU game was to great. In fact, they joked about wanting to party also, so it was no big deal. Because I have to drive hundreds of miles to see a game at DWS, I'm not about to leave the stadium early, even if the wife wants too. Hell, if you stuck around, you saw Little Favre do his thing.

-Bama LSU was bound to be a badass ballgame, and it delivered. The other option is to watch a game that you already know the outcome of.
-we were crushing them and were clearly going to cruise to victory.
-while we certainly destroying them, it was clear the effort was not 100%.
-Also since we were destroying them, most of the starters played maybe 40-60% of the game. No one is dying to see us test out dudes against inferior competition, basically like a scrimmage.
-The weather was not bad, but it wasn't perfect for a football game.
