If it weren’t for Columbus, the Devils would have a real chance of finishing in last place this season.
Man, you gotta step back from the ledge, lol. Most likely these guys just aren’t as good as the win streak and aren’t as bad as the losing streak. It’s a young team finding their way. I’d be shocked if there was a total collapse, just like I’d be shocked if they won the president’s trophy. I would NOT be shocked if they made the playoffs by a few points OR missed the playoffs by a few points. Either way would not be a disaster.

Compare and contrast to our other locals. If NYR don’t win at least one round or god forbid get shutout of postseason, it will be pretty bad. Just look at the posts here about GG. PHI is way off from being relevant. NYI, an aging team, is about to see this window slam the hell shut, and bring about a total rebuild, if they don’t wake up.

I know the last few years (yikes 10?) have been crap, but this is the NJD way, lol. ****, Cups, ****, Cups…

If they can hang around until the TDL, I have no doubt moves will be made to solidify them making the playoffs.

It's just best to ignore him at this point.

Holtz could have had two assists on this play, the kid's passing is a very underrated aspect of his game:

And then he does what he does best:

He's still a work in progress, but once the game slows down for him, we'll be looking at a 25+ goal scorer, maybe even better than that.

Holtz proved to be very timely 😆. I look for a lot more good games from the young gun.

After 8 straight home loses, I would not be opposed to taking the drastic step of sleeping in a hotel before every home game. Something has got to give.

Ruff needs to wake up should be the next step, his answer tonight on why he continually sticks Haula with Jack didn't make any sense.

For example he should have gone with Palat - Hughes - Holtz tonight.

And Haula should be nowhere near the ice when you pull your goalie.

The lines centered by Hughes and Hischier were dominant tonight. Outshot STL 21-2 at 5v5.

That said, Ruff’s line combinations are mind-boggling and the bottom 6 is a mess. On what planet do Mercer and Sharangovich get 4th line mins? What does that possibly do for them? Holtz playing with plugs like Wood and McLeod. Boqvist hasn’t recorded a point in 6 weeks. Then there’s Haula out there with the empty net…

You can’t dismiss the 13 game win streak, but without it, this coach has won 60 of 168 games here. He should’ve never been hired in the first place, much less brought back if there were serious intentions of competing this year.

Great point. Haula is a nice 2-way player, but he is not a top line skill guy.

Chytil is only the 3rd guy in NHL history to score 2 empty net power play goals in a season, and the first in NHL history to do it in back to back games.

He has continued his good play from the playoffs last year (just like Kakko), but that Laf/Chytil/Vesey line isn’t working. Since the top 2 lines are working right now, I would probably just try switching Vesey and Gauthier. Gallant probably has the line blender warmed up and ready for the first time they are down 2-1 in a second period though.

He should take a seat in the suite for a game for some perspective

Vesey scored more often last season with much less ice time
Haula does a lot more than score, which is not his game. For instance his hitting has picked up some of the slack since Bastian's injury. Not to mention his leadership and being a winning player. He has been in the playoffs every year he has played. I'm not knocking Vesey but Haula is an upgrade.

The Devils like every other team was going to hit a rough patch. Now many GM's think back to Lou, would have fired Ruff by now to shake things up. Fitzgerald will not do this, so I think it is likely we hear about a trade involving the NJD soon. Time will tell, but I think the NJD will end up being around the 5 through 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. Which is fine with me when you look at our seedings for our 3 Cups. I don't expect that, but hey you have to be in it to win it. Number 1 seeds in '98 and '99. We are still 2 or 3 years away from coming together completely. Relax and enjoy, we are playing with House 💰.

As frustrated as we got over shooting 35 SOG and not winning, imagine being a Canes fan last night and watch your team get 67 SOG and lose.

To be fair, Carolina’s strategy has always been that no shot is a bad shot.

The Ranger goalies have picked up a few wins in recent years where they gave up 0-2 goals on 40-50+ shots, and my feeling is always that those shot totals are inflated by all of the bad angle shots or shots from distance Carolina takes.

67 is a big number, even if it is inflated, though.

Logic dictates Rangers should win. However in rivalry games with a boisterous crowd - one never knows.

Ruff needs to be jettison out of here, keeps sticking Haula with Jack and putting Tatar as his other winger isn't helping matters either.

Rangers don’t handle fast forechecking teams that pressure the puck…that’s the Devils game.
No clue who wins
Rangers are bigger, faster and better in every facet of the game.

The Devils are a pipsqueak team

Small , soft and not very good aside from Jack and about 3 players.

I said a few days ago that Vesey is better than Haula.

And he just scored

I was ok with Zetterlund getting scratched vs Blues because I thought he'd be put back into the lineup today, but to scratch him twice in a row when you have One Assist Boqvist still in the lineup is a f***ing abomination.

Lindy needs to go and Fitz needs to find finishers. Jack and Nico can't do it all.

Lindy Ruff has clearly lost something off his fastball. His job is safe only because Fitzgerald is the president of the Ruff fan club.

This team can not take another month to figure this out, and feel good about making the playoffs. Either fire Ruff, find at least 1 trade to make the team better, or both. For TF to do nothing is dereliction of duty.

The Devils simply suck

they will finish around Philly and be eliminated with months left in the season

9 straight home losses is a joke

You guys who believe in the team are getting suckered. They ain’t going anywhere again.

Does Goodrow get an assist on the Hughes goal? WTF was that "pass"?
When I saw the pass I was worried that it was one of the young players, because we might not see them again.

Goodrow will get rewarded for that idiotic pass with MORE ice time because moron Gallant will want his experience on the ice in a close game (never mind that he is the one who made it close).

The thing is, this is the formula that got them to the semis last year.

Earlier this year, their analytics were top 5 in the league and they weren’t winning games,

They will go as far as Shesty can take them, and that’s it.

Krup, you can point to any analytic you like with Laf.
He’s slow as molasses, can’t shoot, can’t stick handle and can’t control the puck.
He stinks period end!!!
He will NEVER come into his own because he can’t do anything.
