You appear to be watching a different Kravstov than I am, although something happened last night that really makes me wonder more about what the hell the Rangers are doing with development.

While Kravstov was playing in the KHL, I saw a lot of clips where he scored from between the circles and in with a nice shot. So he scores last night, they show him happy on get bench, then a few minutes later he has the puck and is open in that scoring area I mentioned, and he still tries the extra pass instead of shooting.

It is like the Rangers suck the scoring instinct out of these guys. Maybe they should hire some ex-scorers to be in charge of development instead of guys like Tanner Glass.
I didn't see the game, so this is just a general comment, but Hockey today is much more like basketball than 'old time hockey.' Shot selection is way more important than it used to be, and the age old cliche 'just throw pucks at the net'... no matter how many times it gets repeated by TV commentators and the like...is BS. KHL goalies are not NHL goalies, and in situations where an NHL goalie is set on you, most players not named Ovechkin (or Hughes) will be told by most coaches (not just, admittedly, incompetent Rangers coaches) to pass if the opportunity for a better % shot exists elsewhere. You have to move the goalie. In today's NHL, throwing the puck into the blocker just results in an easy breakout for the other team. Throwing the puck into the goalie's glove just gives the other team a free line change. Both of those will get you a talking to if you did it at the expense of an open pass.

Excuse me I said " great job by IP" period. That is open ended and was purposefully NOT DEFINED!

To me people should have just left it alone. However I feel it is safe to say if this was former player Kurtis Gabriel doing the exact opposite, you and the couple of others would have liked it.

To me unless you are trying to start trouble, leave it alone! If someone hadn't seen it blowup on ESPN they wouldn't have known!

I have a history of keeping politics out of sports. I hate that it has been injected.
Take your denying BS to the CE Board. The fact you bring up KG is proof this was always CE Board crap.

When you can infer what you were getting at in the matter of a second or two you aren’t leaving it all that open ended and if you don’t want folks to then reference your post the maybe don’t post it. Seems pretty simple.
As was pointed out by another poster, Tony Deangelo got roasted by people who didn't support him, no quoting swarm ensued! With him it was explicitly political.

There is nothing in the post in question that should have led to this. It is just "Karen's" trying to start trouble, instead of being adult about it and leaving it alone!

The trade deadline is coming up, he is a good QB for the Power play, I support that.

Take it up with ESPN, not me.

Krup and guys-
I admittedly don’t know squat about salary caps and the like.
But if we got Timo Meier, how would that affect us ?
I mean, you add him to our top 6 and it makes us viable for a run in tournament

The Rangers are always making the extra pass, and the shots I am talking about them passing up are mostly ones in situations where the goalie isn’t set and waiting for the shot.

By the way, given how the Russian goalies who come over are dominating in the NHL, I don’t know if I would be so quick to assume shooters in the KHL are facing worse goaltending over there than they are in North America.

Here’s what I have to say about Timo Meier.

He is a good player who will help the Rangers in a playoff run.

However, they traded Buchnevich with a year left on his contract for Blais and a second, allegedly (and incorrectly) because they could not afford the $5.8 million Buch wanted.

They would have to trade a first and multiple prospects for Meier, and he is an RFA who requires a $10 million dollar qualifying offer this summer to keep his rights. They can’t keep him.

Buchnevich and Meier have almost exactly the same amount of career points, but Meier has played 30 more games.

Timo shoots and we need that badly.
He’d create more scoring opportunities because shots that get through create scrambles.
How about a 1st, Laf and Zac Jones.

If that were the case his 2nd highest number of shots in the league would have led to more assists. The prices I have seen rumored would be higher than that (like Chytil or Miller).

If I’m SJ im asking for Othmann
It ridiculous of the Rangers to even consider trading significant futures for anyone at this deadline. It’s not like in 94, when they went overboard in deadline deals but at least they were a top team.

If the Rangers get Meier they are better but still not one of the top 2-3 favorites for the Cup

Been saying that to my boys who both played in college since they (and their teammates at all levels) were little.

It would never be Miller for me, but I’d definitely consider Chytil
We have top 6 guys who can convert on scrambles.

Chytil has a higher rate of points per 60 than Timo Meier did at the same point in his career. He is three years younger, way cheaper, and can be controlled by the Rangers tor a few years while they couldn’t keep Meier. It would be a very Rangers move to make that trade.

No, my problem with him is he has been a bad teammate his whole entire life. He wore out his welcome on almost every team he's ever been on, going back from when he got banned from little league baseball all the way to literally giving up on the play in overtime of an NHL game (literally standing around making no attempt to cover an opponent because he was upset about a miscommunication with Georgiev), resulting in his team losing, and then getting into a fight with his own teammate on the way to the locker room. I personally know guys who have been on teams with him and back when he was drafted they said he will either end up in the NHL or in jail. I wanted no part of him long before he made any of his political beliefs known. On the other hand, once he did make them known, suddenly Proud started touting what a great player he is and that he wanted him on the Devils. Pretty clear what side was explicitly political.

I haven't seen enough Rangers games to comment on what krup is talking about, but you're absolutely right about having to get the goalie moving if you want to beat him. There's a reason why coaches coach and commentators commentate. If you play as if "no such thing as a bad shot" and "throw pucks at the net," you could put up 80 shots a game and lose every time. This is why it drives me nuts when fans start yelling "shoot" on the powerplay--it's a chance to generate a high quality scoring chance that is otherwise hard to come by, not to just let it rip from the blue line or from the side boards.

Agree to disagree. I will never understand those who go out of their way to cause problems. Leave it alone or hit the 😠 button, but that is me.

I didn't comment on what he did or why, I support those who have personal convictions they will not compromise on, even in the face of consequences. That is why I postedit.

This stance could impact his NHL career.

The shots I am talking about the Rangers passing up are not the low percentage ones you mentioned. It is players getting a good pass, so that the goalie is already moving, then instead of shooting trying to make one more cross ice pass which gets broken up. It is like their goal is to always score into an open net.

Teams with a good defensive structure can shut them down, like Tampa did in semis. I wouldn’t be confident if they played the Bruins or Tamara again, even the Islanders might be able to do it.

As a Devils fan, I wonder if this talk about Timo by the Rangers is just to Jack up the price the Devils pay. There has been a lot written about Timo Meier and the Devils.

If my theory is right, that is great business by the Rangers.

Timo is at his peak. Chytil is years away from his peak, and cheaper.
They’ve been playing the same amount of time basically
Timo has 150 goals in and Chytl has 54.
IMO we’ve seen what Chytil is going to give us. 40 points if that

There is nothing to "agree to disagree" on, I'm just telling you that my opposition to the idea thrown around on here that the Devils should pick up DeAngelo had absolutely nothing to do with politics and everything to do with hockey. I never even commented on his political beliefs.

I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you, you know the Rangers better than I do, I was just commenting on what RUinBoston brought up about commentators blabbering cliches about just putting pucks on net. But yeah while you do have to get the goalie moving, it doesn't matter how great a passing play you make if it doesn't result in someone taking a shot.

Devils need to get a David Clarkson/Randy McKay type player. Somebody who can grind and be physical but also score a bit. They also have minimal cap space.

I agree. Timo is good friends with Nico, and not small. With the young players in the system, it is thought that Fitzgerald can sign Bratt and Meier, while also making the Devils tougher to play against.

I haven't crunched all the numbers but things seem to work out fine with smart trades and playing more guys on their initial deals.

Tony D would have absolutely made the Devils better last season. He put up great numbers with Carolina. Robac is a low information hockey fan that lets politics skew his outlook on the game.

I think he’s washed up personally and hasn’t been in the playoffs since 2016, but he should come cheap
He’s the type of guy I expect to get at the deadline. Experienced bigger forward who can play on the 3rd line and chip in 15-20 goals over the course of the season.

This may be a bit extreme but I’m going to use an old Casey Stengel line.
This is what I see.
Meier at 26 has a chance to have 400 goals in 10 years at 36.
Chytil at 23 in 10 years has a chance to be 33
Chytl will get better but it’s a no brainer to take Timo over him
