Did Nashville waive Tovalen???You might want to forget the Rangers are playing tomorrow anyway.
Last week, after passing up all year the chance to waiver claim some fallen prospects that maybe could be salvaged like Eeli Tolvanen or Martin Kaut, the Rangers finally claimed the completely horrible Jake Lecschyzn who Gallant has a history with.
Anyway, Kreider and Gauthier are out tomorrow so the Rangers are icing two of the worst forwards in the league in Blais and Lecschyzn and a bunch of the other guys on the team are fighting a stomach bug.
It’s the Canadians so they could still win, but it might be a pretty ugly game.
Oh..... staying up for these west coast games is exhausting.Orr is on his list
IF you want bridge and tunnelers to come to the game you need to have a matinee. It’s wild card Sunday, they knew that…dumb
How 'bout Marty Muth*****g Brodeur? Now THIS will be a fun discussion, lol.
First, agree the phrase “generational” is way overused. But, if we ONLY pick the best player, than you are leaving out either Gretzky or Lemieux. I have a problem with that.
Plus, IMO, this current generational story is still being told. It is quite possible that Hughes is added to the list. Not probable…but possible.
Just off the top of my head, here are some completely arbitrary “generation“ cut offs and some of the best players during that time. Tear it apart, haha!
40-60: Richard, Howe, Hull, Orr
70-90: Lafleur, Gretzky, Lemieux, Jagr
00-20: Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, ??
I would also like to mention, IMO, the best goalie ever born, Hasek, somewhere.
I was going to bring him up but it was too obvious.IF you want bridge and tunnelers to come to the game you need to have a matinee.

Brodeur GOATI was going to bring him up but it was too obvious.
Trying to be completely fair and non-biased here, that Patrick Roy guy wasn't completely terrible. I don't know if we are allowed to have 2 'generational talent' goalies at the same time....that is a question for the committee.I was going to bring him up but it was too obvious.
I once hung out with Rod Gilbert (we got **** drunk) and he said the same thing. In fact he was empathic about it.Brodeur GOAT
“Bridges and tunnels”?
New for me.'Bridge and tunnelers'. Is this not a common phrase? We used to use it all the time. It's the Jersey folks coming in to Manhattan for a day trip.
I see it as far less congested today/tonight at any time than your average weekday.'Bridge and tunnelers'. Is this not a common phrase? We used to use it all the time. It's the Jersey folks coming in to Manhattan for a day trip.
It basically implies that someone has talent that you only see very 20-30 years, but I don’t restrict it to “overall best player” though. Now THIS will be a fun discussion, lol.

Yes, and the Kraken picked him up and he is doing very well for them (5 goals and 2 assists in 8 games). Evidently Seattle came after the Rangers in the waiver order so they passed.Did Nashville waive Tovalen???
He might be my number 2 All time. Which means he’s hockey royalty. His biggest marvel, to me was his staying power. The guy never got hurt, was ridiculously consistently great, and played a legendary number of minutes.IF you want bridge and tunnelers to come to the game you need to have a matinee.
How 'bout Marty Muth*****g Brodeur?
Bingo, more remedial weight training is a must. He falls too much for my liking.Well I said there is the possibility of that happening.
A little more filling out along with staying healthy will do a lot for that.
I agree. I only added that because some talking heads insisted he wouldn't be at that level. The phrase generational talent is very overused. A generation is understood to be roughly 20-30 years.
Stick with the idea that Hughes looks like he might be one of the best players in the league for a while.
Trying to sell the idea that he will be the best player we will see in the couple decade time period that includes a lot of great players, but especially McDavid, is ridiculous.
That line has been poor at 5v5, long before they put Kravstov on it. Trochek and Panarin have no chemistry. Kravstov’s defensive numbers are outstanding, but Trochek should be the goal scorer on the line and he is really slumping lately.Laf and Kratsov doing nothing with top players against a weak opponent.
Trochek really struggling, but 74 is invisible.
Laf just plain sucks
That train might have moved on, I think he would have be exposed on waivers to send him down, he would surely get snapped up.I’d send Laf down to Hartford before I’d put him on the 4th line, because at least he would get ice time to work on things in the AHL.

I have read from a few supposed insiders that Panarin has expressed that he is not comfortable with Chytil as his center. I think it is long past time to tell him “tough ****”. In the small amount of time Chytil and Panarin have been on the ice together they have been productive, and Chytil is wasted on the 3rd line between Goodrow and Vesey.
If nothing changes by the time Kreider and Gauthier come back, the lines should be:
Kreider/Mika/Kakko
Panarin/Chytil/Kravstov
Laf/Trochek/Gauthier
Goodrow/Brodzinski/Vesey
I’d send Laf down to Hartford before I’d put him on the 4th line, because at least he would get ice time to work on things in the AHL.
Good point. I forgot he has played enough that waivers would be an issue. That train might have moved on, I think he would have be exposed on waivers to send him down, he would surely get snapped up.
As I have mentioned a few times in this thread, he has had an awful year, but through the playoffs last year his even strength production was progressing nicely compared to most first overall picks.Laf has no inherent skills to work on
I was only 10 at the time and I remember that series happening, but not a lot of details like I do (for example) of the controversial 72 Olympics basketball final.Off topic:
Am I the only one posting in this thread old enough to have vivid memories of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and USSR ?
Phil Esposito, Alexander Yakushev and Valeri Kharlamov the best players on the ice
Every game was on TV Krup.I was only 10 at the time and I remember that series happening, but not a lot of details like I do (for example) of the controversial 72 Olympics basketball final.
Did it get a lot of coverage in the US?
I have seen a couple of great documentaries and read a book on it. Combining that series with the games when the Russians came over around 1975 to play NHL teams and it is kind of embarrassing the impact that some players gooning it up had on being competitive with the Russians.
Best of 8. Canada took Russians lightly. Canada went up 2-0 in first five minutes of game 1. Thought series would be a joke. Think Russia led series 2-1-1 after first 4 games in Canada. Think it was 3-1-1 Russia after game 5 and Canada won last 3 games with Paul Henderson of Leafs scoring winning goal with less than a minute to go in game 8. How’s my memory? Lol.Every game was on TV Krup.
I was 15, a freshman and completely entrenched in my high school hockey, travel select, and going to hockey school for the 2nd half of every summer.
Espo won that series for us by himself, Orr was hurt…Paul Henderson right place right time
Laf has no inherent skills to work on
At this point I would be fine with a Lafreniere trade. If he doesn’t play better for a new team at least we got something for him. If he did recover to play significantly better than he is on the Rangers it might force them to face what seems pretty obvious. The organization for decades has sucked at developing forward prospects. If Kreider's absence is his audition, I think we have our answers about his future here.
He may still end up being a good player, but probably not with the Rangers, and, in my opinion, his draft projection was a huge miss.
I'd be fine with moving Laf if it's a hockey trade. I hate deadline rentals and wouldn't want to move him (or really any kid) for a rental. At this point I would be fine with a Lafreniere trade. Notable about Lafreniere’s draft projection is that he was the obvious number one a year before the draft, then things shut down so there wasn’t the year where scouts started noticing his flaws . Compare that to Shane Wright, who was also the consensus number one a year before his draft, then ended up going fourth after scouts didn’t like his predraft year as much.
I’d trade him for a rental yesterday Cheese.I'd be fine with moving Laf if it's a hockey trade. I hate deadline rentals and wouldn't want to move him (or really any kid) for a rental.
Zap, that would be just bad asset management. You know there are always teams who think they might be able to get more out of a player. Lafreniere would have decent trade value. Hell, the Canadians would probably still jump at the chance to get him.I’d trade him for a rental yesterday Cheese.
You’re not losing a thing
Let’s see what he does again tonight, I’m not talking about getting his stick on a loose puck or a deflection, I’m talking make a play..
Kratsov invisible in the offensive zone also
