Right? I’m sitting here wondering how far Raritan is from me lol
We have Ralph’s Pizzeria*
Pizza is bomb(as the young kids say)

*Bar Stool pizza review: 8.9… guess he doesn’t love it as much as I do.

Anything above 8 is big for him. He also grades on a big time curve for different reasons. .

Planning a trip back to NJ to show my boys around where I grew up in Bergen County (roots through my dad in Hudson County, too.)
We visit the Ocean City area about every year and know the good food places around there. Would be grateful for suggestions from this board for favorite pizza and hero places in Bergen or Hudson.

I just mapped it from my office in Branchburg on Rte. 22 - 3.9 miles. I'm planning on going into the office in the next week or two, so I might hit that for lunch.
Pies only, no slices sold

Today was three hour wait on a pie

Since I moved to outside of Charlotte, I've found a great place that makes legit Neapolitan Pizza. I would say it rivals some of the best places I've had in NJ.

The owner brings EVERYTHING in from Italy, and sources his water from a place in Pennsy because apparently the mineral content is that closest of Naples.
Monster - What is the name of your Charlotte pizza place? My daughter lives there. Thanks!!

I live about a minute away from delucia’s. Good pizza, liked it a lot more when I first moved here but have since become tired of it. It’s a unique slice, very crunchy and well-done on top. Ended up switching over to Toscanas in Bridgewater for a more traditional slice. Dominic’s in the circle is good too, classic jersey place run by straight goombahs.

If you’re in Raritan check out Espo’s and Uncle Vinnies. Those are two excellent spots, places are filled with pure characters too.

That is so true. Way back in the mid-90's, worked in Parsippany and used to go south on 202 to Morris Plains for this little hole in the wall place called Tony's. The old guy who ran it was, of course, Tony, and he made all the food himself. The meatball pizza and pepperoni pizza was out of this world, every single time. We actually started having our meetings there, we'd run up a tab and our secretary would pay it weekly. Of course they only took cash at the time. Anyway, some time after I left Tony retired and two younger guys took it over. I went there a couple of times, the pizza was still good, but not as consistently fantastic as when Tony ran the place.
Tony's is very average. Too heavy on the cheese for me... would order from there every couple of weeks when I was living in Morris Plains out of convenience. Enjoy much better pizza here in CNJ.

Kids love the buffalo chicken pie at DeLucia's but I follow the same plan for my family and myself except I'm in Bridgewater closer to Toscana's. If it's not a weekend, I might lean toward DeLucia's because you can actually get a pie within a half hour.

its good BUT if you like your pizza cheesy and gooey this aint for you. Its on the drier side. I prefer lots of gooey cheese
to blow up after that monster score.
that is the thing.... different people will like different things out of a pizza..... I do enjoy the cheezy and gooey pie, but I now gravitate to a real thin pepperoni pie

for me, New Park tavern in East Rutherford is just the way I like it..... the barstool guy was there a couple of years ago, said that pie was really good, but gave it a 7.8... good, but no where near the 9.4 here

Mr barstool said a curious thing at the end of the New Park tavern, saying he hates everything about this place, kind of a throw out line, not very nice

Stans Chitchs just about as good as Delucias imo. Real close. Both have very good sausage pies.
Is Chitch's still around? Between all the flooding and that ginormous apartment fire, that neighborhood has seen better days.

I would like to know if he had anything to say about RU beating Michigan in bball. He's a jerk and has said a lot of moronic things about RU in particular over the years.

Pizza in JC would say

Razza (owner went to RU and was rated best in NYC despite being in JC)
Bread and Salt
Rustique

Yes, still there. Closed for a few days this week, though. You’re right, the neighborhood has seen better days but Chitchs is still great.

Wow Delucia’s!!

So growing up in Whitehouse my mom used to take me to their old building as I recall for takeout pies ! Loved it. Many a stop on a Saturday after going to Duke Island Park in the 1980s.

Emptied out and sold my mom’s house a couple winters ago. Bishops Market sold the Delucia’s pizzas there frozen so was a good item to pickup and take home to my house after a day’s work.
Lotsa memories man.

Stan’s Chitch’s still the spot though. I drive there whenever I get in the area once or twice a year for a couple beers and a pie and a few to go.
Beers or pies to go ? Or both !

In Bergen Kinchley's in Mahwah already mentioned. Also Brooklyn Pizza in Hackensack and Ridgewood. I believe they are all whole pie only.

An 8.9 score is huge. Sally’s in New Haven (my fav) was the highest I believe at 9.2. A good pie is 7.6. You are great if you hit his 8’s.

Yes you are coming from an expat who's lived in New Mexico for the last 27 years. That being said, I'm still happy that we live here.
My company has an office in Albuquerque. Never been to New Mexico but have always been told it’s a high crime/murder state. Is that an exaggeration or fact? I assume it’s not true but figured someone from NJ living there would give an honest answer. I’ve been to 43 of the 50 states and used to travel a lot on business so I have my own opinion on places I’ve visited. Taos have been in my bucket list for skiing.

Huge fan of Brooklyn although I think the Ridgewood location makes a more well done pie. Which is my style. We go to the Hackensack location more. A lot more flop. I prefer to take out from Hackensack rather than eating in to reduce the flop.

You need to call ahead to get pizza from Delucia's. They have one small oven and it can take a couple of hours. Pizza is fantastic - as good as Brooklyn or Manhattan.

Heard Eapo’s has gone down hill since they sold. Was a great old style place. I love the Bridgewater area as they have several different styles of pizza. We just had Delucias a couple of weeks ago. But you also have Alfonso’s in Somerville Chimney stock in BRidgewater and Lombardi’s I. Martinsville. I really like Lombardi’s as it is true Neopalitan pizza and the owner goes to Naples every few years to get new ideas. Delucia’s Calzones are also awesome

Actually he’s said a lot of good things about RU in the last few years. Football and Basketball. It helps having TJ on staff. I used to not be a fan but once you figure out his act, you get to like him.

If Sally's is a 9.2 I'd put Frank Pepe's white clam pie at a 9.5. New Haven is an oasis in the New England pizza desert. Boston's North End is life sustaining but not New Haven.

Oh yeah and the daughter made some upgrades there in the bar area! Bar stools no longer bolted to the floor. Fake fireplace for ambiance. New flooring. Gone from my childhood is that sawdust shuffleboard bowling game. That game ruled. I was there maybe 2 weeks ago. Funny, outside the bar entrance is a door to the basement and the kegs and storage for other liquor is down there. Bound Brook DEFINITELY has seen better days but one staple has preserved for sure and that’s Chitchs

Have you been to Pepe’s lately? Not as good as they were. I still like them but not the same since their expansion. They are probably 4th or 5th in New Haven now. Sally’s & Modern much better. Even Bar and Zuppardi’s. I get to New Haven often since I go to a lot of college hockey games in the area. That being said, I was born and raised in NJ but New Haven pizza is tops.

Apperently they sold out of pizza tonight and had to close early.

Is it really a big deal if this Barstool guy says so?

Not for 20 years, so you're probably right. Went there for the 1st time in the late 70s and was duly impressed.
