Anyone have the Genie receiver that Directv is offering? I'm adding a new HD tv so I need another HD receiver and I'm trying to decide if I should take the free HD dvr receiver upgrade or pay the extra and get the Genie receiver? Just wondering for those that may have it already if the Genie is worth the extra money. Thanks for any input.

I have it and got it around 2 months ago. It has a 1 TB hard drive. You can almost put as much content on it as you want. You can record 5 shows at once. The box is rather large. That is the only negative that I can think of. Great product.

I got one about 6 months ago. Would recommend the Genie. Keep your old DVR's and replace a non DVR receiver. It cost the same per month for additional receivers. Picture in picture is cool when watching multiple football games. With 5 turners it will eliminate recording conflicts. Directv paid me a net of $12 to upgrade after loyal customer credits, $10 HD credit 12 months etc. They also peaked my dish and upgraded my system adding whole home watch and DVR in any room and cinema connection for on demand.

they told me the Genie would be $299 to upgrade, but I've since gotten them down to $99 plus $49 install fee. Since it sounds like it is a good box, I'm thinking it may be a no brainer for $99. I would really use the picture in picture and extra tuners.

Yeah they started out at $399 plus $49 installation but since I was out of contract I told them the Mrs. wanted to switch to the Dish Hopper since she could record more than two shows at a time. Dude put me on hold and came back with a bunch of credits and discounts. I had to pay like $108 but would get $120 Free HD Credit @ $10 a month for a year. So in the end I would net $12.

How fast is it scrolling through menus and lists?

I have a 2 year old DVR that was the best thing they offered at the time. At times I'd like to chunk it out the window because of how slow it is. It's like they built the thing using all the leftover processors from unsold Commodore 64's.

It's not as slow as the old HR-21 - HR-23. I have two HR-22s and a Genie (HR-34). The Genie is more responsive to remote commands. Try this to speed up the old receivers.
1.Go to channel one. Once that's tuned in hit red, red, blue, blue, yellow, green. This will clear the Ram.
2 Go into system setup/display/preferences/scrolling effects and turn it off. Go to System setup/display/video/native and turn that off.
