Actually this is an anomalous event for the US. It’s extremely rare for smoke densities this high to cover this amount of area. Out west you only experience this is you are directly downstream from a fire and certain topographic features keep it bottled in specific areas. My AQI is 234 which is higher than most of the areas directly adjacent to the actual fires.

Northern California has had three such events in the past six years. The outfall from extreme forest fires has become far more common.

Saw this on the weather board. Filters gotta be used right? I mean its orangish out but not like that, at least in Hamilton it's not

I can't speak to this picture directly, but Northern California had days like this two years ago. Really spooky ****.

No offense but if you trust the government to make your health decisions you’re screwed.
As Bruce Springsteen once said in an intro to the song War by Edwin Starr:

That was 1985. Today? Not a peep. Even as we inch further towards direct involvement in a major war.

Remember Rage Against the Machine and "F You, I won't do what you tell me." ?
That was then. Now it's "we will do whatever you tell us to do."

There was an afternoon in the mid 60's when the skies got very dark over North Jersey.Because it was on a Catholic holiday, there were fears that Armageddon was near.
My usual near photographic memory fails me on this one for some reason. The internet doesn't have a clue on this one.

Maybe it wasn’t as bad in some of your locales but if it was like it was in Hunterdon today there is no way anyone would last more than 30 min in AQI 400+ air. It’s literally toxic, your eyes would be on fire and you’d have a splitting headache by the second hole or inning.

Stop being soft. Just because it toxic, doesn’t mean it’ll kill you. Let the kids play.

I seem to recall that it was on Good Friday. Some other issues going on made many believe the end was near. Being a good Catholic school kid, I was guided to St Michael’s Monastery for some confession. Apparently it worked. Youre welcome.
