Saw this on the weather board. Filters gotta be used right? I mean its orangish out but not like that, at least in Hamilton it's not

Looked like that in Monmouth County earlier today

It does affect others. First of all, its taxpayer-funded waste. As a conservationist, it's offensive to see the government taking resources, wasting them, and the result is N95s in the gutters and along the sidewalks everywhere, ultimately filling up the landfills needlessly.

On a societal level, we are pack creatures. We follow the herd. If the herd is misled, it is prone to irrational bad behavior. Everyone in the group is subjected to the results of that. There are many, and if you didn't learn that lesson over the last 3 years, you never will.

I remember when that guy wasn't a Statist. (At least I thought he wasn't)

God, this thread went from people trying to share info about a public health issue to the usual culture war political dickheads hijacking the thread. Good job usual suspects making the board unreadable again.

Seems like you're obsessed over pictures of me but I don't want to know if you touch yourself. That's gross. Now go waddle over to the donut stand, fat boy.

LOL. I think you posting S&M pics of yourself is worthy of comment when you bring up other perversions (Drag shows) without thinking I'm interested in them sexually.

I saw you. You looked like a poorly cooked turkey meatball covered in hair (and some leather straps).

Wanna go again?

I got to Mercer Oaks at 4PM. County decided I'm not smart enough to measure risk reward and closed the course. This government is such a joke.

We played 18 at Spooky Brook today (2:30 tee time). More cars in the lot than what I expected.

Just under the wire!

Biggest problem the not knowing how far the ball traveled; as it would disappear after about 150 yards. So if you were in the rough, the radius had to be fairly big to find your ball.

The right wing moderators allow it. That’s why this site will never get another penny from me.
It’s funny that one of the mods issued an alert about that in this thread yet still allowed a bunch of crap from one poster who posts the same crap every time.

That's what I was afraid of this afternoon but would have eagerly experienced instead of getting told no.

Ask around. I actually socialize with normal Rutgers football fans, sweetie. I can be vouched for.

(I don't need you to vouch, ya know, because of the pics) ; )

(Internet artist's rendition, not actually the pic because that was, ya know, slightly gross-er)

OK back on ignore for you. Stop calling me out and we won't have to keep going over your perversion in public. Kisses!

Any chance the fires were caused by the Rocket? Hopefully it wasn't the Death Star?

Maybe it's time to take up disc golf. It's free, it's usually a more rigorous walk (more like hiking), and no government henchmen to muck things up, lol. Was outside all afternoon and evening today, like yesterday. Smoke, shmoke...at least for those of us with superhuman respiratory systems - in all seriousness, it was bad out there for anyone with issues (my wife starting coughing as soon as she was outside in it for a few minutes and spent the day indoors and we changed our air filters today, as they looked like soot).

Conditions are slowly starting to improve, smoke-wise, and tomorrow should be a bit better than today, with the air quality alert being “orange” (unhealthy for sensitive groups) vs. today’s red (unhealthy for all) to purple (very unhealthy for all) and even hazardous in NYC and parts of NJ, depending on where one was. In fact, NYC's air quality index hit its highest level since the AQI was established in 1999 (377 - considered hazardous).

https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/new-york-nyc-air-quality-levels-canadian-wildfire-smoke

See the graphic below for the AQI across our region as of 10 pm tonight and see the link below for the website that hosts this graphic and has tools for looking back at recent AQI levels and forward, based on modeling predictions for the next day. Tomorrow, winds will start to shift more towards the west, as the vertically stacked low to our NE retrogrades into New England, shifting the worst of the smoke westward and Friday’s air quality will be even better due to a further wind shift, combined with likely showers.

https://gispub.epa.gov/airnow/?show...orecastmonitors=forecasttomorrow&tab=forecast

Note that the high AQI levels are largely due to the PM2.5 levels, i.e., particulates < 2.5 microns, resulting from incomplete combustion of wood/cellulouse from the fires in Quebec. Prior to the passage of the Clean Air Act in 1970, many US cities had episodes of particulate pollution, from poorly controlled burning of fossil fuels in power plants, cars, incinerators, etc., similar to what we're seeing from these fires. Horrible smog (smoke/fog) outbreaks in the years prior to 1970 in many major US cities, including NYC (usually from a meteorological inversion trapping pollutants locally) were a major impetus for passage of the Clean Air Act, which has been a huge success for air quality and public health.

Supposed to fly home from France into EWR on Friday afternoon. I wonder if the flight will be delayed or changed to a different airport
You should be fine, as smoke/haze levels will be much better on Friday than today/yesterday, although we'll likely still have some smoke/haze around.

Arguing with you is like arguing with a 5-year old stamping his feet and spewing nonsense. As per the article below, even major volcanic eruptions typically only emit about 10-50 MM metric tons of CO2, which is a drop in the bucket when compared to the 29 billion metric tons of C02 emitted per year by humanity (that's with a "b" - a billion is a 1000 times more than a million, just in case you weren't aware). Again, do a little research before you post or ask a grown-up to help you with your posts.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/starts...2-does-a-single-volcano-emit/?sh=7492cecf5cbf

When you realize that volcanism contributes 645 million tons of CO2 per year – and it becomes clearer if you write it as 0.645 billion tons of CO2 per year – compared to humanity's 29 billion tons per year, it's overwhelmingly clear what's caused the carbon dioxide increase in Earth's atmosphere since 1750. In fact, even if we include the rare, very large volcanic eruptions, like 1980's Mount St. Helens or 1991's Mount Pinatubo eruption, they only emitted 10 and 50 million tons of CO2 each, respectively. It would take three Mount St. Helens and one Mount Pinatubo eruption every day to equal the amount that humanity is presently emitting.

haha right

Mt Helens put more co2 and stuff in the sky that everything man has done to date and that doesn't even get into continued volcanic activity from under the oceans that emits more than all the cars on the planet.

it's all a money grab like reparations is now

Not even close; read my post above from another thread addressing this BS claim about volcanic activity putting more CO2 into the atmosphere than humans.

Have to admit, I'd like to see what that looks like with my own eyes.
It's pretty wild - reminds me a bit of the day we had the partial solar eclipse a few years ago, where it was much darker than normal at midday, but in addition, there was the low visibility, as it was hard to see beyond 1/10th of a mile today (about 500') when we were playing disc golf, and the ever present smoke smell. Fortunately, I have no respiratory issues.

Mask litter is unfortunate, but masks work, albeit imperfectly, for both virus-laden droplets and even larger sized smoke particulates, as I've explained in deep detail, since I've done primary research on mask efficacy with particulates. During the pandemic, mask efficacy went down considerably once omicron subvariants evolved with 3-5X greater infectiousness than the original strain; fortunately, by then, vaccines were widely available.

With regard to particulates from smoke, most air quality hazards are short-lived and localized and the vast majority of people can avoid the hazards by staying indoors, especially those with respiratory issues, so mass deployment of masks seems like the wrong solution to me.

Well this thread has devolved and the ‘lowest common denominator’ phenomenon has taken over. If you’re part of that, reconsider things in your lives. Insane how utterly stupid our society has become.
No, very little of this was going on a few years ago. What changed?

I thought of the same thing. Everything has that weird glow, same as on that eclipse day.

This has been coming for a long time. Thank you fossil fuel companies & other corporate polluters & your Republic deniers & enablers.
There's many reasons for the smoke down to the lower US . Climate change is absolutely making for optimal conditions to make this happen to this degree.

Anyone who thinks differently has their head in a smoke filled cloud
