Now that Christmas has come and gone I have some "gift money" that was given to "get something you really want/could use". This follows a topic from back in April of similar nature.<div>
</div><div>But over the last eight months there have been a few new models out for the Kindle and Nook. Sure, there are tablets (Fire/Tablet) but those are not what I'd be after. Trying to decide between the Kindle Touch and the Nook Simple Touch. From my initial thoughts, both seem to be solid and the job done if you want to read a book on an eReader. But does anyone have experience from these two models?</div><div>
</div><div>
  • Has anyone tried books from their local library through these eReaders?
  • Does Amazon's "closed system" scare anyone away?
  • I have a friend who says he finds books for free the way some find movies and tv shows for free online (torrents). Any experience there?
  • Does Amazon or BN have any other features that give them an edge? (Such as the Amazon Prime subscribers benefits of lenders library and all)?
  • Or are eReaders just a fad and I should just buy paperbacks or drive to the library?
</div>

I'm happy with it and I havent heard any reason Kindle proponents wouldn't be the same.

My advantage comes in the form that Barnes and Noble is a store that I can physically walk into, brouse, have my nook with me, and download a book right there if I need to.

The downside of these things is that they take away the 'page turning' action an there is something satisfying about that when you read a book. That said, the models you are talking about have some added features that mine doesnt have (color, more interactive touch screen, cooler games, better internet compatibility).

I'd say go walk into Barnes and Noble and get a demonstration, then talk to someone and have them show you their Kindle. Probably going to come down to which one your eyes like the best. </p>

I have Nook Color, which is a tremendous device. However, it looks to me like there are more cheap and free book opportunities with the Kindle.

I have downloaded torrents and bought books from other sites that are not amazon. There is a program that is free called Calibre that will convert any of the files to a file that is recognizable on your kindle. It is simple, just click on the file and then send it to your device.

I would assume both of them are pretty much the same. Many of the torrents are good and easy to download but I have had a few that the formatting was off and it would display very strange on the screen.
