OT: Last reunion of any kind you attended

Was at my 50th HS Reunion last night, what a friggin blast! We had 80 attend from a Senior Class of 400.

Ditto, went to my 10 year reunion and most of the attendees were the tools who were popular in hS back then who pretty much all got married and had kids with each other. My 20 year reunion is in 2024 and I have absolutely no desire to attend that one. Maybe I'll go to the 30 year reunion if I end up crazy successful at work or get a trophy wife but that's it.

That's true - and in my case it was a lot of the girls
We had a lot of pretty snots in my class (they callled themselves "The Clique"), and as freshman all the Jr/Sr varsity athletes scarfed them up.
We were an alienated group all 4 years and never even had reunions so it was no struggle to miss them lol.

Never invited to any reunion. I’m sure the feelings are mutual to this day but I never gave a rats arse for 90% of the others. I should’ve stuck to my myself and everyone instead of trying to be nice that one year.

It's like a reunion every time a H&B customer walks through my door. And I try to attend a NAMSL convention every few years.

I’’ll age myself a little, but my high school class had several yearly reunions after our fiftieth, that were all pretty well attended. In fact some of us prior to Covid would get together for lunch every 2 months or so. Some of the attendees you got to know better through these get together..

Family reunion last year. Cousins and their descendants meet every two years. Mom was one of 11 kids so had 27 cousins. One branch of family gets to host. Last year was sparsely attended, maybe two dozen showed. Previously had around 60 probably spanning three generations of folks. Have lost about a third of the original generation of cousins over the years. Don’t know if the next generation will keep up the tradition when the last of my generation (youngest probably 60s) is gone.

I haven’t. True story, my Graduating class was just north of 250, a few people from my HS class tried to organize a 10 year reunion open to former students and 1 guest and had to cancel the event because the venue required at least 20 total tickets be sold which they did not reach.

No one even attempted a 15 year, lol. We’ll see if I get an email about a 20 year, haha.

I had no real friends from High School and had no desire to attend any reunions.
Most of my friends were from 2 other local schools and I don't see any of those either.
Looking forward to not attending a 60th next year if there is one.

You are correct in many ways. I remember a kid that was the jock/bully in HS with all the girls. I personally never had an issue with him but I remember when I started working at IBM 6 months out of HS and about a year later, he was with the cleaning company that was emptying our garbage.
I went to our 5 year but it was just a Frat type party with keg stands and such. 10 year- ehh- boring but not many have stood out yet.
But at my 20- I was 37, divorced, successful and the best shape of my life…
All of a sudden all these women were telling me of their secret crushes back in High School. Keep in mind, this is small town mid NYS.
My 25th- I had my current wife with me. Trophy but with spice. Super successful and ummmm for upstate NY-small town shocking as she is Jamaican.
Was a lot of fun and everyone loved her more than me by the end of the night..,
I will say, I am always shocked at reunions..,

I graduated Woodbridge HS class of ‘84. Never went to a reunion nor have I had any desire to. Would be more interested. In a Rustler Steak House reunion ( worked at the Perth Amboy one from ‘82-‘84) or a Navy reunion with the guys I served with in E-division on USS Coral Sea from ‘85-‘88

My fraternity has reunions all the time. 2-3x a year. Haven't been to one in about 5 years because I was far, far away. Pretty fun when a guy or two you haven't seen in 30 years shows up. Usually get a group that's about 12-15 years apart in age. Went to first one in a while back in Jan. Seems like we are toasting to lost brother once a year. That's the ****** part.

Many times hs reunions are more like hs days with older people trying to impress former classmates.

My hs had no reunions until the 40th and everyone was so happy to reconnect again that it ended up being a great time. But ymmv with hs reunions imo.

Have a reunion every year with the group of close friends that happen to comprise some high school buds and all college roomies. We have a blast and have been meeting up every year for the last 20 or so. Usually involves an RU home football game with some extra days before or after. Most from NJ. But me in NC and another in CA. We make it happen. Most are retired or nearing it now.

The last two years, we even started a new tradition of "hike week": we've hiked the AT in NJ in '21, and NY in '22. Nothing extreme i.e. no camping. We rent a cabin. This year they want at it again, so it's either CT or MA or northern PA. Some hike 100% of the route. Some 50%. Some just hang out and support the hikers. Good times....

A good friend of mine who is about 10 years older, his Dad was in the oil business and with ARAMCO. He grew up in the late 50’s into about the 70’s in Saudi Arabia. Met his wife there and then came here for college and real life. The stories they have as rich , privileged white kids in SA in the 69’s is priceless.
But most of the families ended up back here and he and his counterparts “Children of ARAMCO” get together every 5 years in some part of the world. But he also always had a Superbowl party for a 3-5 day weekend every year stating In the mid 90’s when I met him.
And these friends, about 30 of them, show up every year and are a blast. They have all accepted me in as family but wish I had the same kid of kindship as they do.

I can understand but that is also kind of sad. Not anything against you but there should always be good memories and people from all of our childhoods.

We have a dorm reunion at Rutgers every spring (Demarest Hall). The last time I went, the kids asked us older folks why there were cutout areas in the hallway. We explained that they used to be phone booths.

The funny thing was seeing how students had their rooms decorated with hanging vinyl album covers and posters of bands from the 80’s. I guess that I’m cool again!

I worked at Movie City 5 in Woodbridge around that time, I bet I knew some of your classmates.

I went to my 20th GS reunion in 2016 and had a good time. We haven't had one since. Unlike many above, I enjoyed high school and found it nice to see a few people I don't see often. I experienced zero people showing off their wealth or status. We just drank and talked all night. I'd do another if it ever happened.

I’ve been to my 10th, 30th and 40th HS reunions and had a lot of fun each time. Maybe it’s because I’ve remained close friends with two guys since early grade school plus a few more since freshman year of HS.

My RU fraternity brothers get together multiple times a year so they don’t qualify as reunions, right?

That's the way my class was/is.
Luckily I played three sports and had a lot of friends across the board.
The class behind mine was really tight and they all seemed to like each other.
Some classes are just like that.
One thing I noticed was that the classes that really liked each other had good football teams when they were seniors.

I'm a fellow Raritan grad but over 20 yrs later. What was the school like back then? It always seemed to me from the banners that the school peaked in the 60s & 70s, at least athetically. I don't think we won any conference titles in my years.
Many of our popular students knicknamed themselves the "elite". That turned me off to going to any reunions.

Oddly enough, I've been to every HS reunion since our 5th (ever 5 years), including our 40th this past fall (was delayed 2 years). I say oddly because I rarely see any of my friends from HS (Wash Twp in Gloucester County), since I moved up to this area to go to RU in 1980, but for some reason I find the reunions to be fascinating, perhaps because most of the people who were kind of dicks in HS don't go to the reunions, which are run by a few of the very active girls from HS who were pretty cool (not snotty). We generally get about 80-90 from a class of 400, which is a pretty high % from talking to friends from other schools. Also, since the 20th, I've been DJ-ing the reunions, since it saves the class a decent chunk of change that we put towards good food and drinks and folks obviously seem to like what I play (the dance floor is pretty full for the last 2 hours of the night).

I also go to the Melody Bar Reunions every year (now twice a year) and they've been going on since 2007 and are a blast. I have much closer friends that go to those than the HS reunions, including several who we've been close to since the mid/late 80s. And I get a group of RU Chem E's from the mid/late 80s together about once a year. I guess I like reunions, lol. Or old friends, since our poker group has been playing poker once a month for close to 40 years without missing more than a handful of games (twice a month now - once in person and once on-line, since one of our guys created a fantastic on-line poker game during COVID).
