So they got the movie money, and he got the football money? I can’t imagine there was that much movie money for them.

I thought I read each of the four family members got like $250K flat and then 2.5% of gross movie earnings............... the movie grossed over $300 million per the article I read.

Never trusted her since she played a witch in Practical Magic.
Guess she forgot that football drives the bus, unless she is on the bus with Keaunu Reeves.

Michael Oher never liked how he was portrayed in the movie and obviously still seems pissed about it.

I'm confused about what a conservatorship is and how that would be any different to an adoption in this case. It's not really clear.

Royalties from this movies would most likely be nothing compared to the money made during his NFL career.

The way another article I saw explained it, if they adopted him he could have taken back full control of his financial affairs at any time after he turned 18. The conservator documents they tricked him into signing specifically don’t include adoption, which allowed them to still control his affairs even after he was 18.

My first thought when I saw this is Michael Oher funds are running low. We are now talking 20 years later - you mean all the professionals he had managing his career - accountant, agent, lawyer, etc. and nobody caught this? Will wait for details to come out but sounds fishy to me from the Oher side.

No good deed goes unpunished.
The good deed might have been just that, then turned into profiting from the kid.
If Oher wasn't adoped like the Tuohy told him they did, it looks more like profiting from a good deed that wasn't exactly as claimed

It's an old story with these guys. And OL weren't making the big bucks that they are now when he came into the league. I think people are just not realistic about how much money it takes to maintain a certain lifestyle when not as much is coming in anymore. Could've made crappy investments too.

does sound fishy, but maybe he never checked and only found out ( taken from article) "Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys."

I'm sure the truth will come out, unless it gets settled out of court and the settlement has a non disclosure cluse in it.

We can never be sure of the sincerity of posters that Message Board Geniuses flags, but Ole Miss posters chime in:

Oher earned 30MM from his NFL contracts and lives in a 3.5MM house in Tennessee. If he didn’t meet Tuohy family, he would be playing at JUCO and selling cars after that.

A person acting as a conservator owes a fiduciary duty to person placed under a conservatorship to act in that person's best interest. If the Tuohy's movie deal was in writing and Michael was the only person in the Tuohy household not to receive monies from the studio, they breached their fiduciary duty to Michael.

Regardless of what support that family provided him, that does not give them the right to take advantage of him. That would be like your parents forcing you to give them an annual tithe since your earnings were not possible without their support.

Not to mention the article intimates he received nothing of value in a contract turning his rights over to a studio? If there's no consideration that's null and void. Edit: reading it again it states "no payment whatsoever." It's plausible there is consideration non-pecuniary but this whole story feels gross.

might have had a harder road, but might have had enough HS football success to go JUCO then do well enough there to get a top 4 year college scholarship and on to the pro game.
The Tuohy family might not have become so well off if he hadn't come into their lives.

Wonder why they lied to him about him being an adopted son?
That should raise questions about their honesty and good intentions.

Yes, juco for a year and transfer to OSU or Bama after and make 30mm. That’s the problem with ifs.

"The Express.. Remember the Titans..The Blind Side" - all pretty much overcooked according to the black and white players involved. I neversaw any of them despite being a big Denzel fan

Denzel wasn’t in all of those movies. Strange take and the movies were generally entertaining.

you're joking right? lots of adopted kids don't know they are adopted.

we don't know either side yet everyone is already on his, ridiculous. He's on plenty of interviews stating how they were great 'parents' and did a lot for him. He's been an elite athlete with top lawyers and then this pops up.......something not right here
