I can't understand how any rational person could defend that POS, narrative-driven rag. The funny thing is many elites seem to think it some sort of bastion of excellent news reporting.

As far as the topic of this thread, I think I agree with much of what @RU4Real said (if I understand what he said correctly) is that we should do a little it of everything wrt to clean energy sources. Perhaps a minor area of disagreement, and it is minor is the phase out of petroleum products. Setting hard deadlines for phase out may not age well. As far as the rest of the world, China seems to be doing very little, as do other major countries on climate change and pollution. That's a problem.

The deadlines are driven by the carbon budget. We have about 500 GT of emissions that can be released before we exceed 1.5 - 2 C of temp rise. We are actually seeing what a 1.5 C world looks like due to El Niño (obviously exclusive of the aggregated impacts of further warming (droughts, biodiversity loss, etc as well as tipping points such as the Gulf Stream collapse 4Real mentioned earlier).

This is a function of radiative forcing. Each GHG makes various contributions to radiative forcing. CO2 is the most abundant and most substitutable - things like the PFCs and HFCs, which are nominal but as much as 24,000x more potent at trapping heat, don’t have a really good substitute given their role in refrigeration.

Globally, we release about 50 gigatons annually… so at our current pace, we have 10 years before the budget is consumed.

Not possible to fully decarbonize on that timeline, so there are incremental targets based on the availability of technology. Things like power generation are relatively easy. Decarbonizing cement, marine transport, aviation, agriculture (fertilizers) are much more difficult and will take longer.

You can find the IEA energy models here:

There should be a connection to Rutgers Football or college football

The back & forth insults in a lot of these non football threads are a turnoff

It’s tagged as OT. There are a lot of smart people on this board who should be able to engage in discussion and the sharing of ideas about what is and will continue to be the most important topic for the economy and the species for the next 50 years and beyond.

China is investing in clean energy and might be the leader of every country when it comes to clean energy investment.
But , right now, they are a big fossil fuel and coal user because they don't have enough clean energy sources up and running to supply their needs
China also is the biggest user of coal and is importing more, so far, this year than ever before.
China is the world leader in building solar and wind energy facilities, but it also building more coal plants than any other country.

Seems like they are trying to keep up with the demand with dirty energy while preparing for the time they have enough clean energy sources to meet the demand and possibly cut down on their coal and oil reliance
You know what the damn shame of all this is?….the u.s has the richest and most abundant supplies of fossil fuels on earth and our country isn’t profiting at all because of the insanity coming from the left.

I have no problem with prosecuting anyone who breaks the law, of any party. Throw them all in jail until they get the message. But why just Hunter Biden? Why not Trump? His many many transgressions don't bother you??? Or his kids? Or Mitch McConnell or anyone else in the GOP? If you're only concerned with going after people on the other side you're a partisan hack.
Of course it does. Lock Trump also, but you'll NEVER hear that when it comes to Liberals as our country to ****

The US is effectively energy independent and profits from a variety of fuel export. The energy complex is generating massive profits today. What are you talking about? You just say stuff that has no basis in reality or fact.

A guy who says America isn't profiting from fossil fuels is a joke that can't be taken seriously.

This does not include the E&Ps like Pioneer or the MLPs like Enterprise or the natural gas focused groups like Range.
It doesn't include a lot of stuff. I know people sometimes exaggerate during political discussions but to say we're not benefitting is just full on idiocy. It's a huge industry with tons of money and natural gas is a lot cheaper here than most places in the world because of all the drilling. Some people really are in cuckoo land.

One trick pony. Here's a suggestion: try intelligent discussion of issues for once.
Wrong. Every time you babies are faced with facts or contrary opinions, your panties get in a bunch and you lash out like little girls. Just see diddles this thread. Then of course there's ru4BleemClown wishing death on anyone that disagrees with him.

atheist drivel
Relax bro, I am an all-of-the-above guy on energy, and in general a fan of cleaner and greener as I've posted many times, just skeptical on the hysteria. I'm not in the climatology field, but it's obvious how carefully that line is worded that there are questions that can be asked. So yeh, I have a natural curiosity. What are you talking about "basing human existence on wonder" haha, so dramatic.
Because you say so? Rrrright.

Now explain to the class what "Evangelical Christians" killed Jesus the first time, and why in your mind "they" would do it now. I'll wait
Your hero ru4BleemClown just proved my point, again, numbskull.

Stop whining Alice. To paraphrase an old but true saying, if you can't take it don't start dishing it out.

Since you brought up the importance of facts in having a discussion, I figured I would aggregate your contributions to the conversation to identify the facts that you presented.

It seems the only fact presented is that you're an imbecile.

** it seems there's a limit to how much stupidity can be contained in a post... so it limited the number of quoted responses.

Poor stalker, weak attempt at more garbage insults; try again with the posts those were replying to. I'll make it quick with a couple factual posts here that sent you into a tizzy of weak insults and dumbass lies, and ultimately crying for the mods lol.
And as you know, since we've gone through this dozens and dozens of time on the CE, Biden has been negotiating with Saudia Arbia, Iran, Venezuela for more oil while he works to shut down our industry. We also know you believe in the alarmist man-made global warming theory; we can continue that on the CE.

Not sure who you're referring to re: 'not talking' about capitulating to an extreme green agenda-looks like this current Admin would do just that. I am for continued R&D into and a better defined/fully vetted long-term plan for clean and reliable energy without killing-off our proven, reliable energy sources, and that would include investing in clean coal power. We can't repeat Europe's mistakes, we need all our energy resources available and developed to maintain our superpower status militarily and economically.

Yawn. So what about Rutgers 1st game of the season. Who is going? Will it be cancelled due to excessive heat. LOL 😆

They aren't?

Is Biden seeking to raise oil output from SA and Venezuela and others, yes. Just like every president has for the last 70 years. You know, trying to get energy prices down. You are probably complaining about high energy prices that are Bidens fault while simultaneously complaining about him trying to lower prices.

US energy production is at an all time high and US exports of energy are at an all time high. This has been written numerous times in this thread.

So no they aren’t facts, there are kernels of truth wrapped in biased opinion. There are no facts to support your claim that Biden is trying to shut down US fossil fuel industry. Over time, they want to switch to renewables just like everyone else that isn’t Saudi Arabia or Russia.

We could be doing so much more! It’s not like the Biden regime isn’t sending tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars to a foreign country or allowing millions of third world illegals into the country or anything.
Thank you for your conjecture.

You already know this, for others benefit, he’s also providing lots of incentives for them to change their business models. DAC investments that should help support the upstream component. Hydrogen tax credits for downstream.

Huge undersea volcacno erupted this year

"This massive subsea volcanic event appears to have elevated the absolute amount of water vapor in the upper atmosphere by some 11%. As high as the mesosphere and into space. Huge ejection. This May last for up to ten years. This added water vapor encircled the earth within several months of eruption. Water vapor (the other “greenhouse gas” according to environmentalists ) is 63X more prevalent in the upper atmosphere than Co2. This single event would have a major impact on warming the entire Pacific Ocean by several degrees, and on northern hemisphere temps."

Actually we couldn't be. Oil companies have lots of wells they could drill but don't because oversupply reduces their profits. They're not particularly interested in giving you low prices.
