Wow. We were just talking about her at work a few weeks ago. I saw her a few years ago at the Prudential center. She was in her 70s I believe. What a great show! RIP

Where are the replacements for these icons?
As I previously speculated, celebrities may be a 20th Century thing,if that's got anything to do, got to do with it.

Why do you think that? Are Lady Gaga. Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift any less celebrities than any from the 20th century?

The world has changed in that celebrities are no longer remote as they were before the internet.

The issue isn’t that there are not celebrities, there are more today than ever. In fact some people are famous for being famous. In some cases it’s kind of a mystery as to why they are famous. Celebrity hasn’t improved the music scene, it’s been detrimental in many ways.

Turner never did anything for me
Didn't like her music or her Rod Stewart wig.
But she seemed nice enough and came-up the hard way.
She was a good live performer and certainly iconic
Seemed like a good act for the Vegas crowd

They are big celebs with Instagram armies but I cant think of a recent song I like from them
Some early Gaga was good and she aced the Super Bowl

Swift was a cute kid singing weepy teeny-bop songs that were clever.
Now she's commercial heavy to the bone - the Microsoft of music.
Cheapest seats at upcoming MetLife shows on 26th are $1500 (kids could go to Europe)

Parents are stupid to pay that for a gig
Its funny how many parents are happy their kids like Swift because she doesn't have tats or fishhooks in her lips.
They think she's a nice trad girl from a PA farmhouse
But now she's dropping F-bombs in songs that have to have heavy bass.
She's chasing the ghetto ducats with filthy mouth girl rapper named Ice Spice.
She's also imitating Billie EIlish
Swift doesn't want to leave any nickles on the plate.

I like when I catch some artists early
I saw Dua Lipa and Dev Hynes/Blood Orange at the Mercury Lounge for $8 each.
I saw Borns at Terminal 5 in 2016 and people still dont know who he is

Each generation thinks its era had the best and greatest performers . Music, movies , sports… Remember this little fact though. This current generation doesn’t have their icons without all the others. Tina Turner deserves to be called iconic. The past 5 generations have been the key to the growth of music around the world.

everey generation has their icons replacing the icons of past generations that have passed.
Yesterday's icons are being replaced with trhe talent today's generation adores and the next generation will replace today's top talent with the talent they think is the best.
We might not like the talent that seems to be replacing the musical talent we loved , but our parents might not have likes them and our sons and daughters aren't as thrilled with them as we are.
Frank Sinatra seemed to be the one that couldn't be beat, Elvis came along and proved for many that he wasn't.
Then John,Paul,Ringo and George knocked the king of rock and roll off his throne .

As for me, very few could compare to the music icons of my day.
But my children feel mine are not as good as the ones they grew up with and my grandchildren have today's talent listed as the best.
So icons are replaced every generation , but the ones we think the best wuill remain that way to us while being replaced by he talent the younger generation enjoys

Highest grossing acts are still 30+ yr old bands
New bands that fill arenas are hard to find
DJs taking-up space.
Rap is just rhythmic chanting that doesn't take an actual musician to do.
Electric music was newish in 60s.
Hendrix had a pedal or two in late 60s.
Finding people that play, write and sing are like 4 leaf clovers these days
Its a myth that things always get better.
A lot of biggest current hits are on 2 Live Crew level

Tina became a huge star in Europe after her fame here had lost some of its luster. During the 90s and 2000s, I would see posters in Europe advertising her concerts. People I talked to were big fans of hers. She is evidently the all-time world leader in concert tickets sold and much of that was in Europe. Here's an interesting article for Tina fans:

there is no one else ever that performed with such energy, attitude and passion on the live stage. You can just see it in her face and expression. Todays performers simply lack this package. Love this performance with Bryan Adams for Its Only Love. Kudos to Bryan because it has to be intimidating to be on stage with Tina and he pulled it off.
