Not a fan of last night’s episode. Far too somber for a comedic drama. Tom and Greg were on-point as usual and Roman was good, but the rest of the cast fell flat IMO. I even watched it a second time to make sure I didn’t miss something and it was even worse.

For all the talk going around about it being one of the great episodes in TV history, I found it boring and way too drawn out. But I am excited for the fall out. This was like a set up episode.

I watched it twice and appreciated it more the second time
They could have easily did it where the family was close enough together that there was one scene with the group

This way , there was confusion, repeated denial at first

There was an inability to give their father a satisfactory send off when trying to say their possible goodbyes over the phone

There was the mixture of emotion where they remained angry with him business wise and finally saying I love you

With the backdrop of the wedding that would fall apart, and the wrestling with how to handle the death announcement

It was chaotic and disjointed by design, because real and powerful people might
react that way

I thought it was brilliant and so much better than what would be expected

Yeah but felt very anti climatic. I kept expecting it to be a hoax so I didn’t have that emotional connection. Also, such a great character to end in such a “meh” way.
He has had health problems the whole series so it was always a possibility he goes out that way. What did you want him to be assasinated or something?

They also wanted you to think it was a hoax at first. The one shot with the kids going through real time with the viewer was excellent TV.

I thought it was well done, and at first thought it was some type of set up as well.

Is it just me?, but there is something about Shiv that I find incredibly attractive. Normally pale, heavy set ladies are not my thing but something about her eyes and her personality

For a bit, I was thinking Logan was faking his death to somehow gain an upper hand on the children.

Enjoyed the episode and this season so far. Sets up well for a chaotic conclusion.
Yes! And that was the brilliance of the episode and the way it was filmed. You really got a sense of the "mind F" that Logan has given his kids over the years, because as a viewer you were really in denial about him actually being dead (despite the fact that he was high risk for a secondary cardiovascular event). And, what added to it was the fact that they were playing with the camera angles and not showing you his body or face, which made you really paranoid about the fact that he was pulling a fast one. You were relying on the second hand accounts for information.

What was also brilliant about it was the sudden, unexpected, and frankly, the unheralded way he left this earth. In real life, that's how it ends for most. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. Not when you are ready, but when it's least expected.

I thought the characters responses were very revealing of their level of hurt... It's only Shiv that is perplexing and in-congruent with prior episodes...she is the one character I don't understand.

It's just you.

I did think Conner's wife looked very hot in that episode. In previous ones I've been sort of on the fence; during the wedding I was "ALL IN"

That may have been an inflection point for them though. There was real authenticity for the 1st time there. Who knows?!

It was anticlimactic because you didn't see him die, and really never saw him when they were trying to revive him
Maybe that would have made it more satisfying for some viewers, but a decision the writers made

I did find it a bit tedious.

I feel the same way about Shiv..... typically not my type... but i have googled her to see what other Movies/Shows she has been in.

It's just you.

Willa is pretty hot.

Agree…so what you were basically left with was 40 minutes of reactionary and speculative behavior of the kids trying to figure out what was happening, which I found much less interesting than if you had seen the dramatic sequence of events where Logan went into the bathroom, collapsed, pulled him out, attempts to revive him, etc. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the death of a main character made to feel so anti-climactic.

The reaction to the death was presented in a bigger way than the death itself

Could have done both…Logan deserved better. Tom basically stole that episode. The writers took a risk and IMO simply fell flat. Imagine if Tony Soprano’s demise had the same episode structure. Would have been terrible (and I don’t like the way Sopranos ended although I understand the whole “what actually happened” mystery effect).

I think imo the last soprano episode was far more disappointing

What I find most interesting/entertaining about Succession is that anyone that has worked in corporate America knows that these types of characters, namely entitled buffoons not to mention rampant nepotism, exist. There are so many Fortube 500 companies with total idiots running around the show.
Yes, but I can’t see executives say “**** off” to their teams to often.

HBO's best surprise death since the Red Wedding.
Speaking of which... HBO just gave the green light to a GoT show based on Dunc and Egg stories. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for me.. if they do it well.. the stories exist (Hedge Knight tales or something) in full and don't have to be made up... and they are fun stories iirc. I enjoyed reading them. Forget what the title is.. Knights of the 7 Kingdoms maybe? I suppose they plan on telling more stories than just Dunc and Egg... or they didn't think that popular title for them was serious enough.

Series finale tonight. Anyone have any guesses ?

My guess is all three kids get left out and none run the new business.
That’s been my guess since I started rewatching it after stopping season 1.

Finding out about Logan’s death in season 4 somehow spurred me to pick it back up and I liked season 2 but season 3 and 4 were just okay for me.

The biggest annoyance I have about the show is the dialog with the 3 kids, Tom and Greg. Way too often, it’s like they can’t spit out sentences and complete thoughts.

My daughter is a big fan. I said the exact same thing you did to her. Bugs the heck out of me.

Had company this weekend so didn't watch the finale of that or Barry. Will catch them when they're repeated.

I disagree. In a show about billionaires being ******** and ruining everything around them the dialog and interactions between the Quad plus Tom was the most relatable thing in the show. Siblings talking over each other and friends busting each other's balls is every day life. The final scene with the main 3 was awesome.

The dynamics and actions are fine but the dialog isn’t at all for me and it’s not because they talk over each other. It’s because they can’t spit out complete thoughts or sentences half the time.

Sandy’s daughter and Stewy are wealthy children too or Nan’s family but they don’t speak like morons half the time.
