UnlessI am on a golf course. Then FORE is the traditional call of choice. Not that I ever need it.

Old time duck call maker, been making them since the fities. Great rattle, can really get down soft and talk to em. Single reed made from bois d' arc wood. If you live close to Greenwood it would be worth your while to go by and just listen to his stories. My Dad has one of his original calls that he made 60 yrs ago, still sounds great.

To me, Haydel makes the best cheap call. Any of the double reeds. Find the one you like. Tone and such is so subjective.<div>As for expensive calls ($100+), all the new acrylic calls are virtually the same. The majority of them are produced under the same roof with the exact same materials. You are really only paying for the name.</div><div>I use to think that you HAD to have a single reed call in your arsenal for open situations. Thousands of ducks later, I've come to the conclusion that they can hear a double reed just fine and will only commit if they want to. Volume isn't the key factor.</div><div>It's not how far you can call them from, its how close you can get them. Over the years, I've whittled my lanyards down to 3 calls. A haydel, a Zink, and a Primos whistle from wallyworld.</div><div>

I don't call very much when I hunt. I think most people tend to call way too much most of the time.

but its only got two volumes.. loud and louder. I've been scoping the RNT cocobolo short barrel. Never had to do too much calling anyways, everybody else in the hole is a hell of alot better than I am.

Yentzen double reed for hailing and a Yentzen triple reed for feed chuckles. Better timber calls than open water, but they are easy to use and have a great tone.

and you will kill ducks. Blow it a couple of times to get their attention then shut up. PS: I don't follow my own advice.

I learned from my dad and he learned how from Herb Parsons. I've been able to pass this talent down to my oldest son. It freaks people out when we do it cause they think we are playing a trick on them. I can do feed call and high ball. Not as loud as a reed call but very effective.</p>
