There was a thread about Yacht Rock some time back (no need to retrieve it here). While passing through Belmar and Bar Anticipation over the weekend there were flyers advertising "Yacht Rock" music and bands from 4p-10p every Sunday during the summer. Just thought some of you might have interest.

Right there with you on that , man..
It really is an enormous expanse of music.
I would never have considered Take it Easy (Eagles)
Blue Sky (Allman Bros)
Reeling in the years (Stealy Dan)
Got a good one Boss😊
Find your place on the sun (Pablo Cruise)
Yaght Music in real time when I first enjoyed the hell out of all those songs

its all about the nostalgia feel good of when you heard these songs. Evoking memories of summer rec camp at the elementary school or riding to the candle store with my mom on a Saturday or spending a week down in Mantoloking. Music was big part of my life early on. I was a precocious kid as you might guess.

Not sure if you guys remember the radio station 99X, but they played all this stuff in the mid to late 70’s. Not sure when it went off the air but that was my go-to station during childhood.

Memories and associations of those memories is what music is all about.
Time of the season by the Zombies and Think we’re alone now Tommy James brings back vivid innocent memories of my first girlfriend in 6th grade….lol

dont remember that station. I know there were some stations that did play alot of this stuff...98.1 I think out of PA but I think in the last decade most of these stations have moved away from 70s and now 80s has taken over most playlists..remember 101.5 on the weekends was heavy 60s and 70s and now its almost alll 80s. 106.7 lite fm was also big on 70s but moved away from that

You MAY like 100.7 The Breeze, which I think broadcasts from the old WHTG tower in Eatontown. The signal is weak (5 Watts LOL), but you can catch it starting at around Exit 114 on the Parkway down to about Exit 98, or you can listen online at the link below. Maybe not full Yacht Rock, but a lot of Yacht Rock songs are played.

This is how they describe the station:

"Feel good songs, the ones you don't hear on the radio anymore, from artists like Chicago, Donna Summer, The Eagles & Rod Stewart and also great tracks from The Bee Gees, Billy Joel & Elton John. Feel good hits by The Beatles, Frankie Valli, The Beach Boys and the great sounds of Motown."

I love thus genre so much!
I do as well. Saw one in Motown and going to see another in NYC in July . Def interested in Bar A. Any reviews let me know.

There’s also Yacht Rock Radio on Sirius with the announcer doing his best Thurston Howell III imitation ( which makes me laugh every time) but the play list gets very repetitive very quick.

Sounds good, I will have to check it out. I haven’t been to that place in like 35 years. I actually remember going into that place around the very early 80s, before there was any significant bars in the “backyard”.

5 watts? Do they run on AA batteries?

Explain this to me. I was in Greenville in early May and that exact band “Yacht Rock Revue” had a show and it looked like a cult was walking towards the venue. What are they and what is this genre?

I highly doubt people following a band that specializes in playing yacht rock songs is cult like.

its generally mid 70s to early 80s music..soft rock, light and breezy, elements of jazz and r&b likely sprinkled in

think Doobie Brothers not Fleetwood Mac

think Ambrosia not Eagles

think Steely Dan not Boston

think Christopher Cross not Andy Gibb

its a vibe

I'm not sure what exactly entails the "Yacht Rock" genre. But I immediately thought of Southen Cross. C'mon..can't get more rock/yacht than that..can you?

A lot of the music in the genre is way underappreciated.

For example, Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind" is pretty much known to everyone, but few know that Cross is an outstanding guitarist - and the song has an outro solo, buried in the mix, that is absolutely killer.

Boz Scaggs shows up on YR playlists quite frequently, most often in the form of the old classic "Lido". But take a listen to "Breakdown Dead Ahead" - if the brilliant guitar work sounds familiar, it's because the guitarist is none other than Steve Lukather, the front man and lead guitarist for Toto.

Percussionist Lenny Castro played on the "Ride Like The Wind" recording and has also played on stage with Toto.
