PAC 12 Top Teams & Stats, after 5 games.

* My QB ratings 1-10

# 6 USC, 27th Offense = 480 yds, 42.2 pts, QB-Caleb Williams = 10.
31st Defense, 19.6 pts =358 yds.

# 11 Utah, 46th Offense = 454 yds, 42 pts, QB-Cameron Risings = 8
13th Defense, 14.4 pts, 279 yds

# 12 Oregon, 17th Offense = 499 yds, 40.6 pts, QB-Bo Dix = 9
97th Defense, 30.2 pts, 377 yds

# 18 UCLA, 12th Offense, 506 yds, 41.4 pts, QB-DTR = 10
38th Defense, 20.8 pts, 378 yds

# 21 UDub, 11th Offense, 507 yds, 41.6 pts, QB-Mike Penix = 9
107th Defense, 34.1 pts, 341 yds

Defense. Oregon's 97th ranking is flawed. Take off the UGA game = 49 pts, Oregon's D is allowing 25.5 pts per game and would be ranked 69th in nation. Still pretty bad...

Offense: All 5 teams score about the same in pts and very good offensively. All have very good QB’s. Defense, Utah is tops and the best by a large margin. Going by just stats, Utah is the better team.

But, I think the difference when these teams meet and play will be special teams, limit penalties & mistakes/turn over, ball control by the offense, 3rd down conversions, have a strong run game, physicality and team emotion...

When UCLA won UDub last week, 40-32. I think the difference was that UCLA played with mucho emotion and very physical. And, DTR was on fire, the O and D fed off his leadership and amazing performance. At the end of 3rd Qt, score was 40-16. But, Penix fired back in the 4th Qt, scoring 16 pts.

This Saturday, the game of week is UCLA 5-0 vs Utah 4-1. Man that's gonna be a very good game. It's UCLA potent O vs Utah's tuff D we're gonna find out who's better. UCLA may have the advantage, it's a home game (Rose Bowl). But, it's gonna be hard on UCLA as well. Tuff for UCLA having to play 2 top teams back to back. I think UCLA will lose some energy and emotional punch from the UDub game...

That concerns me because our special teams has been consistently lackluster this whole year thus far.

I'm surprised that turnover ratio is not included in those stats and that is where USC is killing it this season.

There is that stat, just did not include in my OP, lazy.

Not understanding the O rating. USC is #27 but has more points and more yards per game than Oregon and Utah also has more than Oregon but ranked lower..... something seems off there

Sorry, my bad. Wrote down these stats quickly. Oregon 406 yds, 40.6 pts = honest error. Correction, Oregon 499 yds, 40.6 pts. This update/correction makes the rankings right...

Let's put things in perspective, our top PAC 12 teams stats vs the top 3 teams in nation stats. Whoa, huge difference. No wonder they are the top 3 teams in country.

# 1 Bama, O = 4th, 48.4 pts, 525 yds, QB Bryce Young = 10. D = 5th, 11 pts, 236 yds.

#2 UGA, O = 19th, 39 pts, 521 yds, QB Stetson Bennett = 9+. D = 4th, 10.8 pts, 264 yds

#3 Ohio St, O = 1st, 49 pts, 530 yds, QB CJ Stroud = 10+. D = 14th, 14.8 pts, 264 yds

@Canyon.usc - I watched the beginning of the ucla-wa game. What I thought I saw was ucla only having three weapons: 1) Charbonnet, rushing and receiving, 2) Bobo, their tight end, and 3) DTR. WA had a weak D that was simply overmatched but Utah should match up up way better. Did you see it differently?

3rd Slide, yep dats pretty spot on. Also, you can add dat DTR spread the ball to 9 different WR's and RB's + ran like a mad man. DTR played well. He had the Eye of the Tiger; saw his eyes from camera shots. Plus, UCLA D shut down UDub's run game = only 72 yds. Seen 2 other UCLA games and they did not look like dat. UCLA came out with mucho emotion and played awesome FB for 3 Qts. At the end of the 3rd Qt, score was 40-16 and I left to watch a HS game on TV.

Prior to the game I seen UDub and QB Penix 2 times and was impressed with them and thought they were gonna win. Heck, UDub is still a very good team. In FB emotion plays a big part in winning or losing. UCLA came out to play dat day. It will be interesting what UCLA team comes out when they play Utah this Saturday. Hard to play 2 big games back to back.

JUGGERNAUT? Wow. These guys on SMI are impressed with USC. Fresh perspective from non-wearing-USC-rose- colored-glasses observers. Enjoy! 😊

Defense. https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/stats/team/?selectedTable=1&leagueStructure=ncaaf.struct.div.1

USC. Offense #9, Defense #51
Oregon. Offense #5, Defense #81
UCLA. Offense #11, Defense #58
UDub. Offense #10, Defense #77
Utah. Offense #16, Defense #34
So, are the offenses in the Pac good or the defenses are just so bad it makes the offenses look good?

No the PAC 12 offense are outstanding. The teams I listed anyway. The D's are average and no where close to UGA, Bama, Tennessee, Ohio St, Michigan. The PAC 12 just do not have those caliber athletes on D.

Our D is decent and playing well above their talent level. If C.Grinch has 2 good years (2023 & 2024) recruiting top athletes on D they will be a top 4 National team. We already have one the top Offensive minds in C.LR and you know he will land top QB's, Wr's and Rb's. Add, C.Henson one of the top OL coaches in the country into the mix, C.Henson will land top OL.

I think in 2 years, USC will be among the final 4 CFP teams...

USC: Offense #3 nation, Defense #67. Interesting perspective, O scoring 43 pts, D allowing 26 pts which makes the team +17 pts = 10-1 record and #5 ranking.

Notre Dame: Offense #51 nation, scoring 31 pts, Defense #29, allowing 20 pts, +11 pts = 8-3 record, #13 ranking.

The stats favors USC, but that's not how the game is won. Our boys had better get pumped up, play smart especially on D (no big blown coverages), out hit ND and tackle well all 4 quarters. I do not think ND will stop USC's O. USC will score on them.

ND is an inconsistent team. Impressive wins: UNC 45-32, Clemson 35-14, BYU 28-20, Syracuse 41-24. Bad games: loss to Stanford 14-16, Marshall 21-26, barely won Cal 24-17. Right now, ND is on a roll and an improved team vs their early games. But, so is USC on a roll. ND is gonna be tough opponent, it's gonna be a hard fought game...
