This is kinda the reverse of what Kevin Durant did when he left OKC to join Golden State lol
Meh. His team looked so so prepared in the title game.
He made no in-game adjustments to try to turn the tide. The Canes were doing the same things at the end that they were doing at the beginning .... none of which worked.Yea, shame he couldn't get his undersized kids up another 20-30 pounds during Championship week. Team was mostly sophomores other than the QB. Just took them to their first ever state championship game. Took over a 5-6 squad and turned it into 13-2 in three years. Bum.

He also went for it on 4th down a couple of times at mid-field and got stopped. The first time was at the very beginning of the 2nd quarter when they were only down by two TD's. It was if he was playing Madden 2019 instead of a State Championship game.
The most telling thing for me was the fact that his team didn't take the field pre-game until 40 minutes before kickoff. Murphy had already been on the field for 45 minutes and had run through defense, offense, and drills. Once the Canes took the field, they spent most of the time stretching and then ran their offense the remainder of the time. They never went over defense. This was telling sense they didn't force Murphy to punt a single time. Defense was not even a consideration.
He's a young coach. I wish him success, but he's not ready for the big time. That will be ok though, because New Bern is NOT big time. They were beaten to a pulp by Gates County who was smacked down by Pamlico, who in turn was destroyed by Murphy.
Ok, you are right. New Bern lost 51-0 to Pamlico who lost 60-0 to Tarboro and 60-27 to Murphy. Might mighty 4A/4AA team. They do indeed qualify as small time. Embarrassing at best to lose to a small A team, much less to get humiliated. I'm assuming that you played on the 2012 team ... go look at your ring and think about what used to be. I promise you that this new coach is not going to lead you to anything worth talking about.I watched the game. They were out-manned and over-matched.
Yes, New Bern is not big-time. A program with 3 4A/4AA titles in the last 10 years is small time, for sure. New Bern did not play Gates County. Try again.
Go Bears!

I have two of those myself .... kid. All those kids and no talent on the field. Should have been a running clock on Pamlico by half. Go ahead and make yourself feel better. Coach would have been better without your school and your school would be better off without him.Glad you corrected yourself, good job. Coach Curlings' career was cut short due to health issues and we scrambled for a HC. The new coach came in this year with no HC experience and it was a rough year, certainly doesn't define the program. The trophy case speaks for itself. The 2014 ring is still shiny, just put some polish to it. Stay in your lane, butch.

We will see. Heading into an entirely different level. I’m not sold but have no dog in the fight. For your sake I hope your closer to right than I am NBBear.
I'm confident he's up for the challenge. I hope he succeeds not for my sake but for those kids. A lot of them need a father figure to push them not only on the football field but off the field and in the classroom.
You stated earlier that you're not sold. If you knew him or knew how he handled the devastation of Hurricane Florence, I think your limited opinion of him would change. There's a lot more to the story than the 2 hours you saw a few weeks ago.
I agree and heard good things. But I also know there is a huge difference from coaching small 1A pamlico and what New Bern faces. I have no ill will or wishes on him. I just think the feeling this is a home run hire for sure is way way to soon to say.
