Pinecrest had their best year ever last year. Most know the backstory from almost dropping football to becoming a solid program. Their pre-conference schedule never tells us much. Does anyone think over the next few years they could take it up a notch and possibly contend as a top tier team? They seem to have solid coaching, but will they be able to produce the talent to reach that level? Curious question and there really aren’t many/any Pinecrest posters here nor are they in many conversations. I give them credit for what they have accomplished, just wonder if they could reach the next level.

They may have reached their ceiling so to speak. They have consistently been a clock management team that seems to struggle if they get down 2-3 scores. Never really been a quick hit type team. I don’t recall any true standout type talent in the skill positions outside of the Dickerson kid, Maples, and a couple of standout lineman. I think they would need to find some of those speedy athletic types to consistently make plays in order to really step it up. Population growth in the area, but historically those with kids like some of the schools that feed into Union Pines. I figured if they could reach the next level, it would strengthen the table for the East 4aa teams along with the conference.

Most teams struggle "down 2-3 scores"
Football is not necessarily the sport of choice
in Southern Pines. They compete well and are
no fun to play.

The implementation of all that coach metzger did 12-13 years ago is really coming to fruition these past few seasons. The players are smarter and physically more than they have been. The culture has never been as good as it is now and I think that We are starting to see some great results. Last year we were told we would not be as good in the playoffs and we managed to win some pretty big games. The coaching staff is legit and is always prepared. I am the Defensive Coordinator and I can tell you that I have never been around a better group of men that just absolutely love football, love the kids, and love their families just as much!!! Last year during our playoff run we just had a belief in what we are capable of.

To answer the question of quick hitting offense last year we had 25 plays of 40+ yards in which we scored on 17 of those plays from that distance
this year our offense started the 71st game with a 76 yard pass for a TD, so I truly think it can be a combination of us making the right call, the kids executing the right play, and the opposing side have some type of miscommunication.

Well I have no reason to doubt you are the DC but I have to ask why would you come on a site and reveal that? Secondly, since you are on here I have to ask- How in the hell do you keep that juggernaut from dropping 40 on you this week? I'm routing for you but do you have scheme and players to do so. Coach Metzger made the point essentially that he is more concerned about his team getting better than all the BCS talent on RC and I think that is how you have to approach it but there has to be X's and O's plus Jimmies & Joes to get it done. I hope you guys give them the business Friday but you cannot let them get big chunks of yardage and the short field!

having a disciplined defense and making sure we execute is going to be key. Control what we can control. Nick Saban always talks about doing the little things right and controlling the controllables and that's what we try to do

Surprised Metzger would allow a coach to comment on a message board.

This was more intended to see if some in the know may be able to speak to the next few years based on the feeder programs, engagement, and any up and coming players.

The above is the right way to do it and I have a lot of respect for what Coach Metzger and his staff have accomplished. It sounds like they are building a culture and developing kids for more than football. I am sure time will tell the rest.

I can wish you luck in every game except when you play us. Here's to no injuries for both teams and everyone playing tonight.

much respect to Pinecrest.... but they just need to beef up their non-conf. schedule. also heard they are pretty young this year so if they make a run this year lookout for the coming years.

Pinecrest has never been hungry enough to win a conference title. Hasn't happened yet. Won't happen anytime soon. Toughening up the non-conference schedule will help.
