Minnesota had 358 yards compared to WVU’s Leddie Brown-less 206 including SIX total yards in the first quarter.
WVU had 66 rushing yards, about half what Leddie averaged for the season.
WVU offensive line couldn’t stop coeds and grandmothers from sacking the QB. Doege has a minus 22 yards. He compounds the problem, as he has all season, by hanging onto the ball too long, helping the sackmeisters do their job.
WVU defense faced a short field most of the game, thanks to the inept WVU offense. But key turnovers blunted what would have been a rout.

You have to go back to Frank Cignetti, who was 12-21, to find a WVU coach was a worst 3-season start for the Mountaineers. And Cignetti was in the 1970s, FIFTY YEARS AGO! So Neal Brown has the worst 3-year start in a HALF-CENTURY. How can anyone defend THAT?
Bobby Bowden was 23-11 for his first 3 seasons at WVU. Jim Carlen was 15-12-3. That makies Neal Brown the 2nd-worst 3-season WVU season in SIXTY YEARS.

FAKE NEWS above. Leddie Brown averaged 89 rushing yards per game, which isn't close to twice as many as WVU's team rushing total last night. Moreover, you're comparing apples to oranges because WVU's total of 66 yards rushing includes Doege's -22 yards rushing and Green's -3 yards rushing. WVU's running backs combined to rush for 91 yards on 18 carries, or slightly more than 5 yards/tote, which was higher than Brown's average of 4.8 yards rushing per game. If you were awake, then you saw that the running backs filled in nicely for Brown, other than a blown blocking assignment or two. BTW, Minnesota's best player, All-B1G running back Mohamed Ibrahim, also didn't play last night, due to a season-ending injury sustained late in the Gophers' first game of the season.
Minnesota would have challenged for the Big 12 title. Their defense was legit top 5. Their run game was a machine behind a massive offensive line. A senior led team on both sides of the ball. They will struggle in Big 10 next year.
If Doege starts next year then Brown should just go ahead and pack his bags.
For me, he deserves one more year at least with his players to see where he can take the program. If the kid from Arizona can get here, learn the system this spring and turn out to be what all the hype around him true, then things should turn around pretty fast. A good QB could of got the team to 9 or 10 wins this year.

Minnesota is good at almost every position, but quarterback. Tanner Morgan is no better than Doege, but benefits greatly from a mammoth and experienced offensive line and excellent running game.
Yeah 20 years or so from now good old Kneel and his merry gang of sjw supporters might win 8 games! It would be the height of mediocrity. Whoa...now that is something to wait on!

What we have is a team that is seriously lacking in playmakers (there are none), size, speed and strength. That was obvious in the bowl game. We looked like a bunch of junior high school kids. This team has no identity, no quick-twitch guys, no impact defensive players, no wow factor, no players who make the opponent say, 'We need to stop that guy or we're going to lose," nobody who is must-watch TV, nobody to build a program around.
Hell, there is not one thing we do well, let alone do in an exciting fashion.
This is a bland, mediocre-at-best, nothing-happening football program that is a sinking ship with Gilligan as the head coach.

Dana was 18-20 for his first 3 Big 12 seasons, 2 games under .500. Neal is 1 game under .500. So we're satified with almost a tie in sub-.500 3-season starts in the Big 12?

I think most fans knew this was going to be a transitional year for the Mountaineers. Minnesota was considered a top 25 team this year with a much better QB, and an experienced roster. You can't give Brown a mulligan next year though. Three years in is generally a good barometer of the program the coach will have.
So let’s see what he can do with his players and while doing it, sit back down in the cheap seats and shut up.
