San Diego’s Poinsettia Bowl reportedly returning to postseason college football lineup
The Poinsettia Bowl was played in San Diego from 2005 to 2016.
After a 10 year hiatus the Pointsettia Bowl is returning to San Diego. It will probably feature a team from the PAC12 vs a team from the WAC. It will be played at the “new” Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley which replaced the old Qualcomm Stadium. (The old stadium was in rough shape when NU beat Utah in 2018.) With some bowl games disappearing like the Motor City Bowl there evidently was a need to replace them. The new Spapdragon Stadium is an excellent venue run by San Diego State and also hosts other pro sports like soccer and rugby. It’s possible it might include teams from other conferences like the BigTen with the expansion of the conference to include the four west coast teams. The Holiday Bowl is still considered to be the primary local bowl game.
Also this article which contains a list of all of the college bowl games to be held this upscoming season. Interesting note there about the “legacy” ex-PAC12 teams and their participation in bowl games with PAC12 tie-ins. Not totally sure about the implications for this year for those teams participating in bowl games, may need further clarification.
Historic Puerto Rico Bowl joins 2026 lineup as Poinsettia Bowl returns after decade
Puerto Rico will host a bowl, while the Poinsettia Bowl returns to San Diego as part of the 2026 bowl lineup.
