When I say “added pieces,” I’m not just talking about transfers because transfers happen all the time at every school. It’s not like Varina is out here recruiting this part is for another topic that we talked about. The players they brought in, along with the ones who moved up from JV, have stepped up and exceeded expectations. Varina’s JV program deserves a lot of credit they consistently develop their players the right way. So it’s not really about transfers or outside additions it’s about a strong developmental system that prepares their kids to contribute early. If every team that loses wants to point to “transfers” as the reason, I get it, but that’s not really the full story here I’m not saying you are saying that would be the reason I’m just saying in general @71ShadesofNavy
First, I wasn't implying anything. You brought it up so I asked a simple question. Please don't say everyone gets transfers "all the time", because that's not a fact. Second, I am not suggested anything, but Varina, didn't just get a "transfer" they have at least four and only one is from Varina. LC Bird, Henrico, and Hopewell to be exact. I personally could care less and I for one would never say transfers are the reason my team lost. Varina certainly had a ton of talent to win it all before the transfers.

I will acknowledge my sour attitude towards the VHSL's obvious fear and incompetence related to regulating transfers "everywhere".

Not one person from Dinwiddie has said the Generals could beat Varina or anyone else for that matter. This team was supposed to be a rebuild and they went unbeaten. If they lose on Friday life will go on. They scheduled three ood teams that made the playoffs last year. No way to know they were going to drop (especially Salem).

@acoles, not that it matters, but you said Varina cake walked HSHS. The score was 21-3. Dinwiddie, shut Highland Springs out in the second half and won in overtime 28-21. It was the third game of the season as well. Two starters, #2 and #4 RB suffered regular season ending injuries And yet we won. Varina played the Springers in game 9.

Best of luck to all. Going to be fun.

Can you repeat the part about adding pieces and explain. Sounds like they did well in free agency. Hopewell HS, Henrico HS, inquisitive minds want know.
Looks like you were trying to read into things that may not exist. Just because someone puts something a certain way that something negative needs to be inferred about it.

My only concern is that I don’t see Huguenot completely shutting down Carter. They might be able to slow him down, but he’s a four-star athlete for a reason. When Hiter was out, Carter carried the team both through the air and on the ground. Regarding playing at Dinwiddie, I think Varina if they win would enter with strong confidence playing there knowing they’ve already gone there and won convincingly before with the same exact team and Varina added major pieces to get even better. The main question is what will truly be different this time around. Dinwiddie is more balanced this year, and playing at Dinwiddie is always tough, but at some point, you have to wonder what will be the difference-maker that finally gets Dinwiddie over the hump? We will see
Not sure what you consider getting "over the hump" but Dinwiddie just won a state championship in 2022.

Love the passion from Varina and Dinwiddie fans. Just shows how much those teams are connected their respective communities.

Coming into the year I was thinking Dinwiddie was a year away. Didn't expect a down year(8-2 at worst) but wasn't quite sure if they would maintain their current level.

Varina is pretty much where everyone expected them to be I believe. As a fan of both teams I just wish they could've been on opposite sides of the bracket.

So it seems that a lot of ppl just think it should just be a varina v dinwiddie final because no one else has a chance. I guess we don’t really need a playoff. Narrow minded thinking. It’s a good thing malik bell didn’t agree with this thinking or there wouldn’t have been a great game between louisa and dinwiddie.

I dont think anyone believes it's automatic. Louisa and Huguenot are both loaded and have plenty of college athletes. Recent history just has been Varina KG or Din winning the region since 2020(spring 21)

I think it’s very realistic for there to be a Varina at Louisa County Regional Final. I’m definitely not ruling out Varina at Dinwiddie though. Much respect to Dinwiddie in running the table this year including a win at Highland Springs (yes, the Springers are down but that was still a big win for the Generals).

Louisa County will have a week where they will most likely rout Caroline and they we will have to grow up real quick when they host a speedy Huguenot squad. Over the span of that week and Thanksgiving Weekend, we will see real quick if playing in a weak Jefferson District comes back to haunt the Lions. Coaching in key situations hasn’t been the Lions’ strong suit in recent years so the Richmond-area teams shouldn’t fret if they draw Louisa County.

As for Dinwiddie, I think they got a tougher draw against a feisty eight seed in Hanover than the two, three, and four seeds.

Region 4B is loaded this year obviously with 4 top 25 teams in the state. With that being said, reading a lot of threads up here, why doesn’t anyone really talk about Benedictine or trinity episcopal? Is it because it’s private? Top 2-3 team in the state and beat Gonzaga who shut out Smith (which is my alumn). Just curious, thanks!

@General172011 When I say over the hump I think we all know Varina is a team Dinwiddie struggled with last year and lost and most likely will be the same result this year. Their history isn’t a hump by all means but when they face Varina can they actually get over the hump of defeating them is what I’m saying. The past is cool and amazing but will you win the big one this year? Basically what have you done for me lately . I think that’s what you got confused I mean the hump of these last two years. I think anyone would trade district and regional championships for a Title.

I’ll be honest @71ShadesofNavy I always respect your takes on things and I said this earlier too last year isn’t the same as this year. Granby and Salem aren’t playoff-caliber teams right now Granby is 2–8 and probably shouldn’t even be in. But I get what you’re saying about how do you know it’s gonna be like that but I’m pretty sure people would have some knowledge of who plays for them and who graduated things like that and I think what @acoles meant and they can correct me if I’m wrong is that Varina controlled that game from start to finish. They didn’t let Highland Springs score at all, and honestly it should’ve been 35–3.

When Dinwiddie played Highland Springs, they were one or two plays away from being down 21–0 before the fumble shifted the momentum. That’s a completely different scenario. Varina went in there and never trailed. And unlike Dinwiddie’s game where one or two plays could’ve flipped everything even if Highland Springs hit those same one or two plays against Varina, they still weren’t winning. That’s why it looked like such a comfortable win for Varina.

This isn’t a knock on Dinwiddie at all. Everybody knows how good they are, the talent they have, and how well-coached they are. I’m just saying the situations weren’t the same, and Varina’s control of that game tells you something different.

Yes because they’re private, conversations on VApreps have always been about the public schools. If people watched more private schools, there would’ve been a lot more convos about St. James considering what they’ve done in their first season existing.

Billy Mills, David Davis and Devin Boisseau. IMO, that’s the best staff in the 804. They do things the right way and their teams will always be prepared. Dinwiddie in deed lost one of the best players in VHSL history but this may be their best team simply because they have a bunch of kids who buy in and play 48 minutes of football.

I would love to see the stats after the 1st quarter when Dinwiddie settled in. From the 2nd Quarter on it was Dinwiddie 28-7, Highland Springs scored on a 3rd & 18 coverage bust for 57 yards beside that play I don’t think they had over 60 total yards from the 2nd Quarter on. We put ourselves in a hole fumbling the opening kickoff and that early TD pass but once the 2nd quarter came it was pure domination Dinwiddie

The St. James thing is pretty cool and I guess it's nice for a "Virginia" team to be on the national stage, but I think a lot of people have finally soured on the recruiting aspect involved with high school sports and privates are the main culprit.

I get that I’m not disagreeing I just mean who’s the recent 4B champion and who went to States? It’s Varina. Then head to head who won recently against one another? Varina That’s what I’m getting at it’s like the bengals I went to the championship 3-4 years ago but now I can’t get back because the Chiefs or bills keep knocking me out. I don’t want you to get the perspective of im saying they a bad team I just think Varina more complete this year of course we can agree to disagree. I do hear Dinwiddie future has some great players I’m just talking 2024 and 2025. Head to head in these years is the hump I’m talking about.

Private Schools are appearing all over Northern VA. St. James is the most visible but schools like the Loudoun Sports Academy, VA Academy, and Harvest Covenant are actively poaching kids and promising better chances of playing at the next level. These "Pop Ups" have no real educational value that I can see. Pay a HUGE tution (if your good enough you get "scholarshipped" by the $ behind the school) and we can get you recruited. If you are not recruited your academic resume to get into college in general is either not viable or not competitive. Most of the kids are "re-classed" because who cares if 19 year olds play a 5th year of HS football. These "coaches" are not very good in general and are using kids to get paid and then they move onto next "pop up". The established Privates (Gonzaga, PVI etc.) and VA Public Schools produce pretty quality student athlete's in part because most of the adults they encounter could give a crap about athletics. I'm not sure the kids at The St. James, LSA's etc. can say the same.

I wouldn’t doubt that could be possible outcomes but I’ve seen both JF and GW play. JF style of play does not matchup well with GW defense. JF likes to run as well as GW and they both have great RB’s. Would be one heck of a game. I would put a little respect on GW team they just don’t hand out out #1 seed to anyone. They’ve earned that right this year! GO EAGLES!! We shall see what happens.
Just because you're the #1 seed means nothing when it comes to regional play. Especially in 4D where it goes from Danville to Loudoun Co. They very well might win the region. JF has looked really good of late by hammering Glass 56-0 (GW 17 Glass 13) and loss by 3 to LCA. Then they just took a very good Heritage team to OT. GW will have their work cut out for them for sure.

I appreciate your service my brother. I will say that you’ve stated on 2 different threads that GW won’t beat JF. I disagree highly (and that’s okay). GW’s running game is elite. They have huge/physical linemen and they’ve beaten Fleming, Botty and Magna Vista. Who has JF beaten?

I think the biggest game this postseason is the potential Dinwiddie/Varina match up. Varina is a great football team but they lost quite a bit (2 college starters in the secondary and they lost two very good

players during the season). Dinwiddie is playing very good football and getting their best player back after getting hurt during the Highland Springs game. It’s a shame that this will be a second round game. I think they’re both interchangeably the two best teams in C4.
It's not who JF has beaten. It's who they almost beat. I would favor LCA and Heritage over WF,LB and MV. So then we need to look at common opponents that they both beat. I know it's all about how teams match up and transitive scores don't really mean anything. JF did play better against Glass and Amherst. It's just my opinion. Maybe GW beats them. I won't be madd either way. No different than I believe a team from 4B wins the title this yr.

I don't believe GW can't win the game. I'm hedging towards JF because of the respect I have for Heritage and LCA.

Can't argue your second point. Definitely going to watch that game.

I am a realist. 1. Dinwiddie needs to beat Hanover first. Sam Rogers can coach and his team plays hard. Trickery is always part of the plan.

2. If we get the opportunity to play the Blue Devils again it should be fun. Varina is loaded and has a ton of seniors. I don't believe many of our own fans expect us to win, but we will compete. Dinwiddie is very young, but feisty. This team is way different than last year's team both defensively and offensively. They can go vertical and have only given up 6 more points than Varina.

3. Huguenot, is a contender. I have been watching them grow for three years and they have all the tools. The Falcons have only given up 30 points all season. They can run it and stretch you out. If you don't have four solid defensive backs it's over. Qb1 Scott has put up huge numbers.

4. @racindan, not one person has dogged Louisa. Why the victim game? I did personally quote you by saying Louisa will struggle in the secondary, especially with Scott and his star studded receiving crew from Huguenot. I have repeatedly said if Louisa pounds the ball with Hiter they can beat anybody. #8 is a beast as well. Carter is not going to be a factor against Huguenot/Varina unless they put 8 in the box. Not sure why, but you obviously have a hard on for Dinwiddie. Why keep bringing up the one win in 2017. We have not and will not make any excuses for that loss and to this day everyone including our coaching staff said the Lions kicked our tails. That game was 8 years ago and hanging your hat on it is too funny. Since you continue to throw shade I will state the obvious. I respect the hell out of Louisa fans and the team. The Lions have won a ton of games in the mighty Jefferson (pure sarcasm), but come playoff time have failed more times than not. In 2017, they won the region and made the state final (4-1 playoffs) However, since realignment in 2013 the Lions have a 9-11 playoff record and with the the noted 2017 exception, have not made it out of the second round. On the other hand the Generals team you obviously detest or are jealous of has a 25-9 playoff record during the same timeframe. 3 state final appearance (2 ships), 6 regional finals and has yet to be eliminated in the first round.
This year may be different. Hanover could beat us and Louisa could shock the world like they did in 2017. If that's the case I will demonstrate my class by applauding the one school that plays homegrown talent and closely resembles my own.

5. Good luck to all the teams in Region B. The winner will have a ton to brag about!

I don't have time to break down the stats by quarter, but I can tell you Dinwiddie had 405 yards in total offense and Boisseau passed for 297. The Springers rushed for 162 and passed for 93 (255). I can say HSHS only completed 2 passes in the 2nd half for minimal yards. The Springers were held to approximately 75 total yards in the second half .

In comparison, Varina put up 338 yards against against the Springers and The Springers could only amass 112 total yards. Both Wyche and Farley ran for over 100 yards. Wyche passed for 107.

Again, Varina is the defending region B champ and will be until a team knocks them off. If we get the chance it's going to be a tough get for our Generals. The X factor is we are not all run and very little pass this season. Boisseau can sling it.

I live down the street from JF I’ve watched this team play all season as well as GW! Week 3 is when GW played Glass they were still trying to figure out their QB situation as far as JF losing to Heritage and LCA tells me everything I need to know they would not beat GW this year! Magna Vista would give JF the business as well lol!! But GL to all these young men that’s why they play the game.

Yeah the sports academy schools are kind of a waste in my opinion. I guess some of those have 5th year guys but I didn’t think you can play traditional high schools with 5th yr guys. If that’s right, you have eliminated a lot of opportunities to play various schools. Thats why IMG, Hun school in NJ play the same teams. Also, they arent actual post grad teams. I wouldn’t expect St.James or any team like that to beat post grad team anyway. (Maturity, better coaching, bigger, stronger etc.).

Lmao pal the Louisa game was an example and YOU did this before also with your back handed complements. I didn’t say anybody talked about Louisa I said they left everybody else out of the conversation and it was just a varina dinwiddie final. The fact you went back and basically cut and pasted the same diatribe you do a few years ago spells volumes of your bloated ego. Don’t ever think you’re going to scold me because I won’t have it. If you don’t like my post don’t freaking read it. I hope Louisa lucks out and manages to win a game or two and I get to a dinwiddie game to discuss this in person. GET OVER YOURSELF YOU ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT.

Maybe they will. It's just my opinion and I'm usually pretty good at predicting games. They might not even play each other. So you think GW would beat Heritage and LCA?
GW did scrimmage Heritage at the beginning of the season and even then you tell that Heritage was going to be tough. They went back and forth but it was only a scrimmage. LCA would be close but in all fairness all these teams are good deserving to be where they are now. Magna Vista in my opinion would challenge both Heritage and LCA those are possible matchups I’d love to see!

GW lost badly in it's opener to perennial NC power Reidsville. Had you told me then the Eagles would finish 9-1, I wouldn't have believed it but they have improved every week. Talk about a wakeup call.

I've not seen JF play but there is great respect on the southside for their staff and what they have accomplished there. I think all season there has been this thought that them and GW could meet in the regional final. Let's not forget though that both will have to beat good teams to get there. If the higher seeds advance Handley will be tough for JF and Sherando will give GW all they want.

I do agree about MV in class 3. They are as balanced as they have been since winning a state championship 10 years ago. They can run and throw with anyone and they are good in the box. I expect they will go deep in the playoffs.

Great post so now that’s why I want to go back to my original post on this topic POSSIBLE match ups! I do think Sherando would give GW an excellent game!
