There's a reason Cal is successful and in the HOF. Can break things down so simply to know nothings like me. Great communicator. I understand he's been doing it a lot longer. But he's also had success wherever he's been.
Coaches either have it or they don't. He has it. Stoops?

Things I have learned on the Lair.

Calipari is a better at what he does than Stoops. Who would have thought?

Calipari just needs to give up basketball and be the head FB Coach! :sunglasses:

Stoops seems like a nice enough guy, he just seems to be more cut out to be a coordinator IMO. It's just a difference in personalities. Seems like more of a micro guy, the best head coaches are generally macro guys that see the big picture. Also, at a job like Kentucky you need a coach (and more importantly an AD) that can do more with less, think outside the box, etc.

I really cannot think of any valid comparisons between the UK basketball program and the UK football program. These are simply two entirely different worlds in virtually every respect. JMO

it's not fair comparison , SEC basketball is a joke, it's not good and and the schools don't even care. He has the more talent than 90 percent of the teams he plays. , He wins the SEC basketball tourney every year which is literally all Ky fans every year. Cal is master PR person in very bad league, love Cal but football animal and sport

Thats pretty much true. At least to the big boosters at all the schools.

UK and Cal would win big regardless of conference. That has been proven by NCAA Tourney and OOC success rates. I'd love to see UK in the ACC, but will never happen.

And no he does not win the SEC Tourney every year. He also probably has more talent than 99% of the teams he plays, albeit raw talent.

You are totally right about football the majority of places, but not at UK. Cal is the king of the jungle here and until we get a real football coach who can win games...he/whoever is b-ball coach will continue that theme.

Agree for the most part, but the OOC games he wins against KU, Duke, UCLA, UNC etc make up for a very weak SEC. Football is a COMPLETELY different animal, and in Cal's own words.... ' In football you have to bring in the Cavalry every year in recruiting ! '

What I was referring to is the way Cal talks to his players and the recruits. You hear every one of them say how straight forward and honest he is with them. When he talks to the media, he explains a players strengths or weaknesses so plainly that you understand it clearly.
Not saying Stoops isn't honest, I believe him to be a very honest guy, just saying he seems to not be able to communicate in the same effortless manner. Guess it's just me I reckon.

Coach Cal could sell ice cream to Eskimos. He is an overachieving salesman. That does not mean he could ever coach football. Go talk about Coach Cal in the Rafters.

Many coaches are excellent speakers, but it is not a requirement to be a great coach. It's what they say at practice, in the locker room and in sideline huddles that counts the most and has the most impact.

Calipari is the Saban of college basketball, overwhelming talent advantage against everyone he lines up against every game. unfortunately for UK Cal does not finish the deal & bring home the hardware he has so often been favored to do the way Saban has consistently done at Bama.

Success breeds success.

Cal has his reputation as a winner at EVERY place he has been in the college game(much like Saban). That's why it's so important to find a WINNER to coach UK football. We just have to find the equivalent of Cal at UMASS or Memphis as opposed to the Cal at UK.

Stoops is in year 4 of his head coaching tenure with VERY LITTLE to sell at this point. He has failed to prove himself as a WINNER, he MUST start right now to change that.

Stoops demeanor reflects his confidence, same with Cal. These coaches, at this point, are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Really? West Virginia, UCONN, Wisconsin, etc say no.
In an Elite 8, a Championship game, and a Final Four game at the end of a 38 game winning streak. Then there's the other two Final Fours, including a National Championship. All done regularly with a rotating crop of Freshmen. If UK basketball makes you unhappy, I can't imagine what UK football does to you. Come on dude.

The basketball haters here are something else.

Must live rough lives if all they have to root for is this football team, who hasnt had a winning conference record in decades, but find ways to diminish Cal's success.

Yeah except you didn't reference any coaches of those teams in your first post. You referenced Alford whom Calipari annihilated 2 years ago in that game in Chicago, and you also referenced Rick Barnes and Tom Crean, which Cal is a combined 5-3 against in his UK career. In this other ridiculous post that I've quoted above you happen to mention West Virginia, whom Cal has beaten twice in the tournament now, and also Wisconsin, who Cal has also beaten. UConn is a different story but we played them in a Final Four and a championship game. What exactly has Stoops done thus far? Almost beating the worst team Florida has had in 30 years doesn't count.

The only place in the world where a hoops coach is brought into a football discussion. Sad.

And yet some people will never give up on the guy. No matter what. Keep the faith!!!

And some never stop bashing him. Works both ways. Just wish people would get behind him at least until the end of the year when it's the end of the season instead of creating bizarre threads to find ways to bash the UK coach. I think that's reasonable.

Yeah I know right. All of those final fours, SEC championships and national title mean absolutely nothing since he has had two seasons without atleast a final four in recent memory.
Yup that post was EMBARRASSING

Come on, he has a history of winning and is Coach of what Alabama is to football Kentucky is to basketball.

You can't compare football to basketball in no way
