I turned it on to hear their take on the Egg Bowl and UM. Their morning show, comprised of Todd Wade, Terrence Metcalf, and David Johnson are fairly honest when it comes to Rebels. They've been calling out the coaching staff all year and been down on their team.<div>
</div><div>But it's obvious that they're fans of a Hudspeth hire. They say that they need a "Mississippi guy who is FROM Mississippi to stand up to the yankee from Rhode Island". They gave props to MSU for their marketing, to Dan for the way he promotes the program and the Championship talk, etc.</div><div>
</div><div>But David Johnson ended up saying that he's 99.9% sure that if Hud is hired that he'll bring Melvin Smith and Steve Campbell with him. Then later he said he had personally spoke with Hud and Hud said he didn't even have to look at a contract numbers, just send him the contract and he'll sign it and be in Oxord the very next day coaching football.</div>

And I think we'd be smart to make that move.

I'd like either he or Freeze, but I may lean a little bit more toward Hudspeth. Both of them have what we need in a head coach though.

I think Hudspeth's experience gives him the edge. I don't think we'll fall into the Fedora trap, and I think Smart is going to have to really wow the committee with his interview if he wants the job.

I just hope he enjoys getting his *** beat. And they will run him after the two more straight losing seasons they are staring at.

I've always heard in the past that Ms Manning was the one responsible for bringing in Cutcliffe. With Archie leading the search you know Olivia is going to have input again. I'm sure she has to be more familiar with Hugh Freeze than she is with Hudspeth. Just a hunch that will be the deciding factor.

We've been disorganized, undersized, no identity on offense, etc.<div>
</div><div>Metcalf wants Hudspeth. Wade wants Freeze. Johnson sounds like he'd be supportive of either.</div>

Lets not let facts and objectivity hinder the OM coaching search. Remember, Tony Dungy called and respectively turned down the job.

I think because Archie is driving this, you can see names like a Hudspeth with only 1 yrs hc at this level, and Freese who only has a year, and Fedora who is a southern miss coach....

years previous, I think the AD's and big alums arrogance would not let them hire guys with those credentials....

with archie though, he is smart enough to see a good coach and take the arrogance out of the equation....

I think he is doing it right.....

and I pray that hudspeth doesn't land in oxford

And to Coach or anyone else that wants to pretend we're screwing this up and chasing Gruden or Dungy, you need to quit reading message board wishful thinking.

I know a few things that have gone on with the process that aren't out there on the message boards right now, and let me say that they're using all the resources available to come up with a list. They aren't just chasing names they like (see the Pete Boone way). They've actually gone through a vetting process to consider a lot of candidates, many that wouldn't necessarily impress you with the "name".

They realize that the name is much less important than hiring a good coach. I really think Hudspeth may end up being the guy, and if it's not, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Freeze. Neither would blow the media away with excitement, but it will be better than chasing names like Erickson or Neuheisal like we did in the past (both guys getting fired now by the way).

Y'all are gonna feel pretty damned dumb when Peyton Manning hangs up his cleats and takes the OC job at Ole Miss with Jon Gruden as head coach.

then I believe. He and Hud are friends. He would have a hard time explaining to Hudspeth why he put words in his mouth. I know Terrence, Todd and David pretty well. They are honest folks, and don't make a habit of putting things out as fact unless they know it is true.

I have a lot of respect for Archie, more so as a Saint than a Reb. I love him as a commentator. Unbiased and smart, as opposed to literally every single college commentator out there. He'll give it to you straight and he uses facts to back up his assessment. If he's solely behind the hire, UM is gonna get a decent coach, but I don't believe he has the final say. The rest of the committee and suits would be wise to listen to his final thoughts and suggestions though.

Related: I hate Lou Holtz. Couldn't be happier that ND sucks this year. I probably wouldn't hate them as much if he didn't pick them to go to a BCS bowl or worse, BCS championship, every single year regardless of talent or the previous year's record. How does he have a job?

..they don't want the best possible hire.

They want a "Mississippi guy who is FROM Mississippi to stand up to the yankee from Rhode Island".

Well, that narrows it down.

I hope they purposely avoid all the men of inappropriate regional birth so they can get their Mississippi guy who is FROM Mississippi to stand up to the yankee from Rhode Island.

If there is a fool proof formula for hiring a coach who is going to lead you to the NC, this is it.

It's going to be Mike and Archie doing the vast majority of the interviewing and vetting. The committee and Jones will more than likely just accept whatever they present.

On the Holtz thing, he has a job because he's interesting period. He's the heel of the show. All of those shows have a heel. It's not any fun when they're all polished talking heads. You need someone on the show that might just say something crazy every so often. Gameday, for instance, is good because of Corso's existence to make people laugh at his comments/opinions.

because if you were you wouldn't be hearing jack ****. the Ninja did it right. There was a damn media blackout, you heard nothing other than wild speculation and rumors and then BAM, Head Coach! That's how you do it right. Don't force these guys to try and keep their current employer happy all while letting it be known they are interested.

You are taking a better tack than in previous years, but I wouldn't call what I am seeing doing it right.

I'm glad I'm not in the Jackson market and tempted to listen to MSU and UM people call in and make inane comments constantly.

The media is only speculating. Hell, Archie even lied to them and told them we hadn't had interviews.

The only rumors you're hearing are either message board rumors or rumors from our Scout and Rivals guys who are calling agents and other schools trying to get a feel for if they have been contacted or not and if they've had their coaches asked for interviews. Neither of them are getting anything from the people actually holding the interviews.

You had the same speculation we are having. You had Chris Petersen hired, then Kevin Wilson, and then finally Mullen.

When have you heard anything official on who we're even interviewing? You haven't. It's all speculation at its root. How is that different?

...if there is any truth to these Mullen rumors are true then Stricklin has already contacted Hudspeth as well and where do you think Hud would sooner coach. My theory dictates that the longer it takes OM to release it's name means Hudspeth has already been contacted by both schools and OM had to go to plan B,C or D

Ninja hired Rich Rod at Arizona. I'm wondering if Hud was interviewed for that job. Even so, guess Rich Rod would rate higher because of the body of work, although he failed at Michigan. Maybe the Ninja went with proven experience instead of a gamble, yet Hud has plenty of experience as a successful head coarch, although at a lower level of competition.
