Rebroadcast of 1948 State title game Thanksgiving Day

thru the magic of radio (and internet) www.wpaq740.com will re-air the 1948 State title game b/t Mt Airy & Laurinburg today at 2:00; the stations owner found the old disc (lacquer records) and had them converted to cd’s ....tune in...may be one of the 1st broadcast of HS football in NC GO

I’m listening right now. I heard the news piece on WFDD earlier this week.

Very cool! When they first aired this piece during a Mt Airy HS off week, the phone lines at the station lit up like a Christmas tree. People were hearing family members play football from the past!

That is Awesome! I love the history and historical pieces of N.C football. During this time many players were former WWII servicemen allowed to complete their high school education after returning home.
