Reece can wish all he wants. Any undefeated team is in before UL. Ohio St or Michigan will be in. Alabama or UT will be in. Washington and Baylor if they both win out would be in. Houston if they win out would be in, but they would need to beat UL to do that. (which would put this subject to rest anyway)

Depends on Washington and Baylor. I think if they both lose a game, one can argue UL should get the 4th spot over a one loss Big XII or Pac 12 champ. Of course if Michigan goes 11-1 they can make the same argument as UL.

Might as well say the winner of the SEC gets in unless it's a two loss team. OSU and Michigan will only send one. Houston and Washington would need to win out. If Houston won out it would knock out UL anyway. It would be hard to keep an undefeated Baylor/West Virginia team out as well. UL needs to not have 4 undefeated teams or a one loss Bama in contention.

Unless other conferences blow it, I don't see 2 ACC teams in the playoffs. That being said UL is good enough to play in the playoffs. If they win out and Clemson loses two, they are in.

The issue I would see is whether U of L makes it before a one-loss champion from another conference (Pac 10 or Big 12 for example). I would imagine that those conferences would lobby very hard on the narrative that conference championships matter. Having said that, if U of L beats Houston and wins out their resume would probably be better than a one loss team from those conferences, so they would still have a good argument.

I can see a case for them if they beat Houston. They did lose a close game on the road and if that's their only loss it'll be a powerful case if teams in front of them stumble. The good news for Louisville is that they lost relatively early, so they can still build a good resume the rest of the way if teams fall off. I just don't see the Big 12 getting a team in this year.

UL needs to pray that Clemson wins out. A Clemson loss at FSU hurts UL and makes their moral victory at Clemson less impressive. If Clemson loses that is a major blow to their case.

Washington is a heavy favorite the rest of the season. They get in over UL if undefeated. That won't change even if UL beats Houston. I'm still not sold on Clemson or FSU. Although Clemson did have 5 turnovers and still won.

By the time we reach December, there is a very real chance that Louisville's only win against a ranked team would be Houston. Florida St. still has to go to Miami, play Clemson at home (making the road game at NC St. the following week significantly trickier) and play Florida at home. Does a big win over an 8-4 or 7-5 FSU team resonate with the selection committee come December? Not sure it will, even if Louisville is one of the four best teams.

A one loss Michigan and a one loss Ohio State will get in before a one loss UL. Both Mich and TOS have coaches that are media darlings, Bobby P not so much.

If Michigan goes 11-0, and loses a close one at Columbus, they have a hell of an argument to get in the final four.

Alabama is not invincible either, still have to play at UT, at LSU, at Arkansas (I think) Tex A&M and Auburn, plus the SEC championship game. But in any event, the SEC champ will get at least one of the four spots, no matter how many losses they have.

Only time I recall a second place division finisher get that high in the final rankings was LSU in '12 (I think). But that was SEC, which at that point had about 412 consecutive national titles, so it was getting respect in a way no other conference has or likely will. The way they've looked against FSU and Clemson, you can argue UofL is one of the best 4 (today, October 3), but that's different than being one of the Final Four. Could happen, will likely take more breaks than is reasonable to expect.....

Troy looked just as good at Clemson as UL did. That doesn't mean much.

Barring an unlikely upset or two, the winner of the 3 strongest conferences, SEC, Big 10 and ACC, will get into the final four.

Assuming none of the following get upset along the way, you could then make a very good argument for Washington, the UL-Houston winner, and the OSU-Michigan loser.

If Washington and Houston end up undefeated, probably will go to the P5 conference champion (which I don't necessarily agree with). If Washington loses 1, then probably will go to the highest ranked of Houston-UL winner, Washington, Michigan-OSU loser.

To the poster who insinuated we would ruin their season, not a prayer in hell. Louisville will get close to 700 total yards against us. Petrino won't call the dogs off this year.

UL wins out they are in cause they lost earlier in season. I say teams will drop games that are ahead of them. I think Bama gets beat 1x I think UM gets beat 1x, Wash, gets beat 1x etc.fourth etc. 7 games left on schedule. Alot of ball to play and UL'S schedule stacks up for them plus a close lose on rd vs Clemson will not hurt them much when ither teams start dropping.

I'm not so sure about that. By season's end under that scenario Houston may be the only ranked team they have actually beaten.

Really the only thing UL needs to have happen is for Washington to lose...which is highly likely considering they have to go to Utah, to Oregon, to Cal and play USC.

They need Clemson to win out.

Then they'll need OSU to beat Michigan...which is highly likely.

Then if Baylor wins the Big 12....a Big 12 with no title game, and with their terrible SOS....they aren't going to be ranked higher than UL especially when you consider that UL will be playing Houston in the next to last game of the season and would potentially be a top 5 road win which would make UL the only team in the top 25 with a top 5 true road win.

So they need help, but if UL wins out and has a late season win over a top 5 team on the road...(we all know when you lose matters) and their only blemish is 6 point road loss from 2 months prior to the #3 team in the country then UL will probably be the #4 team in the country at the time their choosing playoff spots.

I just find it ironic that many in the National Media are now saying-(including Paul Finebaum) if Louisville wins out they deserve to be one of the four...myself...we win out...worst case is Orange Bowl or Cotton Bowl...just going to enjoy the ride going forward.
