Remind me again in 2021 who else was interested in Beamer as HC?

I didn't like the hire then, but maybe you have a point. Who else was trying to hire Beamer though? No one.

So if we couldn't find anyone and no one else was offering him a head coaching job ..... why did he get a low dollar, prove it contract? Why did he get a huge raise and buyout without proving anything?

My problem isn't with Beamer. He wanted a job and we gave it to him. My problem is with us being stupid and tying our own hands.

If you are going to fire him, then you need to know who you are going to hire. It isn't like you can't talk to someone and have an agreement in place before firing the current coach. Right now, we aren't going to be a very desirable coaching job in today's market. We likely have to get a head coach from a Group of 5 or OC/DC from a power 5......it wouldn't be one of the top picks.

I'm still trying to find an answer to the question, "what is Beamer Ball?"

My initial reaction was a cheap and lazy hire.
Someone prove me wrong.
Then RTR doubled down and made it an expensive, lazy hire. That first raise to $6mill was stupid, and I’m not sure how it got to 8…….

I was against the hire from the moment his name was mentioned as a possibility. I ran into an acquaintance, MANY, MANY weeks before the hire, who I knew had a pipeline to the BOT. To my shock, he talked up Beamer. My heart sank as I realized what was going to happen. I realized it was a done deal. I was stunned that we would roll the dice on someone who had never even been an OC or DC, much less a Head Coach. That's especially the case after rolling the dice on a previous failed SEC Head Coach that blew up on our faces.

That's right...absolutely no one.
Who was even interested him as a coordinator?

He'd been a position coach for 17 years. How many guys are position coaches for nearly 2 decades and then become coordinator? I'd guess a small percentage. But we decided to make him head coach.

I remember making multiple threads on FGF back in '21 very much opposed to the Beamer hire. Many others including you were too. We shouldn't be in the situation we're in today but can always count on the administration to screw things up royally.

Precisely. He was a TE coach after basically 20 years in college coaching. Never a coordinator and we give him an SEC head coaching job. His "dream job" going from $300k to now $8M a year.

Frank gave him an assistant title in his last few years at VT and when he retired they made it clear they had no interest in Shane.
