All right guys, we returned 4 of 5 starters on the offensive line and we returned a very solid running back corp. Last year we averaged 162+ yards per game on the ground. So far this year, in two games, we've averaged a mere 95. JoJo Kemp averaged almost 6 yards a carry a year ago. This year he is only getting 1.5 yards per carry. Even Williams is struggling running the football compared to last year. A year ago he averaged 7.1 yards per carry and this year that is down, admittedly not a ton, to 6.4 ypc.
I know we are just two games in and it is a small sample size for 2016, but it really does seem like our running game isn't anywhere near as good as we hoped it would be, and looks to be possibly worse than a year ago. So, what's the problem? Was the loss of Swindle really that big of a deal? Is it that the threat of Towles running helped to open up lanes? Has our offensive line regressed? Is it play calling that isn't allowing the running game to open up? Or is it really just a small sample size and it will get better as the season progresses?
Thoughts?
