Started the season at #2 and beat Nevada, FIU and Villanova. Then lost to Oregon and UCLA.
This highlights the major problem with pre-season rankings.

IMHO, "official" polls should not be released till mid October.Texas and PSU, preseason #s 1 and 2, both fell out of the top 25.
Preseason polls gotta go.
I don't really care about unofficial pre-season polls, but the ones that actually factor into the CFP should be done away with. A mid-October poll as you suggest would look almost nothing like the preseason polls we had.IMHO, "official" polls should not be released till mid October.
With that said, now that every publication, web site, etc have their own polls there is now way that this phenomenon will ever go away.

We will have the full attention of the college football world. We will make a statement one way or the other.
Can Beamer do what's mostly never been done around here and deliver? The powers-that-be gave us an exclusive time slot on the opening weekend for a nationally televised game. They ranked us 13. They've hyped us and our QB all offseason. Can we deliver the goods?

Agreed. It should shake out by the end of the season, but I hate the thought of pivotal poll placements being affected by leftover preseason poll standings. In the rare occasion it does.
Also, puppy seems very upset about it, so thats a bonus.![]()
You got that right. Right under that veneer of normality.Lurker and 18IsTheMan are the exact same individual.
This forum is dominated by one man holding conversations with himself.![]()
But that was true before this year.Texas and PSU, preseason #s 1 and 2, both fell out of the top 25.

The people need the AP poll for matchup interest during the first half of the year. They are pointless I agree, but it makes things seem more exciting.IMHO, "official" polls should not be released till mid October.
