I agree on JJ being the best soph I’ve seen. Only one other I can think of that is close. Jon Budmayr from MCC. Didn’t he beat Naz when he was a soph?

Budmayr was a junior in that game, he did take MCC to the state title game as a soph though. He is now the QB coach for the UW Badgers.

That game was one of the best QB performances I ever saw. Naz D front was in his face all game and he still managed to drop in perfect balls to his receivers. I vividly remember one throw that he was nearly horizontal when he released it and still was a perfect strike.

He didn't have the size, but he is up there with Brasic. Those arm injuries in college for him were a shame.

He was throwing from his back. Absurd. Best game I ever saw from a QB.

cant remember what game it was, but once I saw him play it made me an immediate fan. He was super legit and most of us down here didn't get to see it.

Let’s set the record straight as to what happened at the end of the game. Simeon has ball 2nd and goal from the 2 yd line. Simeon calls their last time out with 14.5 seconds left. They run a dive play that gets stuffed and the ball is being marked, time expires.

This is not on the refs. The average high school play takes 7.5 seconds. To retreive the ball and set it takes 5 seconds. The average time to line up a high school team in a legal formation After a dive play is 7 seconds.

Three things of note: 1. After the dive play, look at all the Simeon players looking to the sideline waiting for a play to be called. 2. Look at all the Simeon players not in legal formation or even ready to get a play off. 3. Simeon player is on Nazareth side of line of scrimmage when ref sets the ball.

Summation: The Simeon coach during the timeout must have said to players, “Guys, this is our last play and we have to get it in. This play determines the game. Let’s do this.” And that is probably what was said. No sane coach would run a dive play with 14.5 seconds and expect to get another shot at it with no timeouts left. Second guess the play called, a run instead of pass, but we must assume he was going for the win with a 2 yd run play.

High School Lites showed that last play but unfortunately, cut several seconds of the confusion. From what I recall from my seat at midfield at about the 5th row and what was shown on HSL: With 20.5 on the clock on 3rd down on the 2 yard line, RB was stuffed at about the 5, and pushed back to about the 8. As I recall, players unpiled, probably 10 or 11 ticks left on the clock. From there, looked like ball was incorrectly spotted initially around the 7. Correct spot probably around the 5. Then, with probably 7 ticks left on the clock, ref #1 who incorrectly spotted ball, tossed the ball to ref #2, who correctly spotted the ball with under 5 ticks left. All of this was eating up clock, but I thought Simeon could have gotten off one last snap with a second or 2 left. Utter confusion between the refs who seemed to have no sense of urgency, and Simeon side who just wanted to run a play. Can the refs call an officials time out there? As a Nazareth fan, I would have understood if they had.

Linked is my live Periscope call not cut at all

After watching that video there is nothing that crew could/should have done differently. The white hat gets the ball from the kid who gets driven back. Gets it to the umpire who sets it. Once the kid stayed up and got driven back that was probably the game. Maybe if you do a sneak up the middle and go straight down you get 2 plays because the offense is right there to get set. Too many players from both teams not on the line of scrimmage here to get 2 plays in. Not one offensive player is near being ready to snap at any point here.

Anecdotal, but the math I use as an observer is 17 seconds in a perfect world from set, play to set. 20 more reliable. 14.5 is not enough to get off two plays without a clock-stop. Rough. Sounds like it was a great game.

Makes no sense that Simeon did not throw a jump ball to Palmer with 20.5 on the clock. Nazareth had no answer for him.
Yep...I think that is the question most of the parents of Simeon players are asking themselves today! Palmer was a beast and a pleasure to watch

As I mentioned before, Irish LB, this is all on coach (whether you agree with his call r not). You can tell Simeon was expecting to get the ball in the endzone on the dive play and only the dive play. If you look at the defensive front for Nazareth, they only had 7 in the box, so odds were in Simeon’s favor to get it in. Naz stuffed them. Game over.

Now way in hell this is on the refs
The initial video did not look great, but it can be difficult to conceptualize time with just a video and no clock. Definitely seems like it was all above the board by the refs once you hear or see the time left. I know that some guy on Twitter is trying to say the Naz kid should have been flagged for a delay of game, but that certainly seems to be a stretch. (see replies to Edgys tweet).

Losing on a stalled drive at the end like that is definitely tough way to lose though.
