This is pretty cool... But,

Bracket-2 Round-1
2013Murphy-42,2002Albemarle-3????

Albemarle 2002 team was a beast! probably the best team to ever come out of Albemarle. I'll believe it when I see it

More like 2013Murphy-42,2002Albemarle-300!

Deana, 2002 was probably the best overall team Albemarle ever had, but one name made the 2001 team special, TA Mclendon.

Hendersonville folks do not think Murphy 1986 would have put 300 on those Albemarle teams.

Maiden came to Albemarle in 2002 and played a good game against the Bulldogs. Albemarle had so much Talent that year. They didn't miss a beat after losing TA To Graduation.

I guess sarcasm is a lost art.

The '86 Murphy team was great defensively, they shut the opposing offense down and didn't need to blow out anyone. '86 Hendersonville also had a future NFL All Pro playing running back and defense, and were still held to 7 points. Gash was just one of multiple future college players on that Hendersonville team.

The '87 Murphy team was great on both sides of the ball. There are multiple people who consider them the most talented 1A football team in the modern era. A wide receiver who started at Tennessee and in the NFL, an offensive lineman who started at NC State and was destined for the NFL before blowing out his knee, a defensive lineman who went to App State, a running back who went to Western Carolina and a slew of D2 players.

Just giving ya a hard time. Everyone knows those Murphy teams were special. Teams that can win two or more in a row to me are normally going to have a team that stands out because one of those classes is normally going to be loaded often with a very special player on the team.

I went back last year and took the starting roster from the 1987 West Charlotte v Garner 4A title game and matched them to the teams from the 2014 4AA title game featuring Mallard Creek and Wake Forest Rolesville. The difference in the weights of the players was unreal! The weight room, nutrition, training methods, and even the schemes have changed the game.

I agree with all of that tango, what's strange though is for Murphy the opposite seems to have happened. The lineman at Murphy were much large in the 80's and 90's than what we have now, both in height and weight. That's one of the reasons I think they would still be special today, they would still be much bigger upfront than most any 1A teams of today.

As far as skill position talent goes it's really no contest, the skill players at Murphy in the late 80s through mid 90's were regularly going on to play college football, that's a rarity now, we simply don't have the same caliber of athletes, partially due to less students to draw from and also due to a change in demographics.

very cool to run that program. Everybody has opinions including a computer program. Tville's 05 defense is the best Ive seen during the years the program ran. Murphy's 2013 offense "when healthy" with Braswell, Cox, Johnson, Puccio and Wiley was the most explosive ive seen in that era putting up 92 points on Albemarle and Plymouth in the last 2 playoff games.

Most overall talent Ive seen in a 1A game was before this era the computer ran, 1986 Hendersonville vs Murphy .

Mentioning the 2013 Murphy O got me thinking about the 2013 Albemarle D that gave up 53 to Murphy. They also gave up 55 in the first half to Davidson Day (61 total) and 68 to Central Cabarrus. Against another 1A team, West Montgomery, it was 55.

2013 Albemarle team wasn't that good if at all honestly. They got that far only because every other team was really, really...really that bad. 2013 Murphy team was very good, as well as West Montgomery. Davidson Day actually won the title that year also. Central Cab only made it to the second round if I'm not mistaken. 3A was loaded that year.

I still say Albemarle should have won it in 2009-2012. In 2010, Albemarle won solely on talent alone, nothing more nothing less. from 2011-2012, coaching made a huge difference.

Central Cabarrus was better than a second round playoff exit but they ran into Northern Guilford which had to forfeit some games due to the eight man rule early in the season. Three time defending state champion which would lose by less than a TD to Crest in the regional final. Bad draw for them and another reason I want the state to look at something other than forfeits for the rule violations that do not really have an outcome on a game.

Tango I would also point out 2013 Murphy scored 35 on an undefeated Plymouth defense that had allowed only 95 pts all season.....Scoring 53 then 35 back to back in the semi's and finals is top notch offense any way you slice it. Obviously I haven't seen all 32 state champs listed here. But I'll stick to my opinion that of the units I saw in this time period, Tville 05 defense and 13 Muphy offense were a cut above what I have seen 97-2014.

Believe me Knine1, Albemarle's 01-02 offense was by far the best in the past 20 years of 1AA/1A football. No doubt that Murphy's 13 offense was good, heck they were great, but compared to Albemarle's 2001-2002 team you can take your pick and either one of those teams was better than 2013 Murphy offense. I got away from H.S. football when T-Ville had their run, but I have always seen a top notch D from T-Ville especially in 95, they were nasty.

Yes, I've never seen any Team that could stand You up at the line like Thomasville. They where Athletic and had Good Size. Alan Brown and His Son had a Great System
