This isn’t a down year! Maybe think Swain was holding back and not wanting to show anything for Smoky? If so that was smart and I hope it pays off. Smoky is definitely the hardest non conference opponent we will face this season. So if we win I think we will be 4-0 going into conference. Enka and Franklin are both down and I feel we have enough to beat both of them on their home fields. Fully expecting Smoky to be ready to play after loosing to Robbinsville last Friday. I was impressed with our run defense last Friday. I believe we held them to 26 yards in the first half and they only had one big run in the fourth after subbing. If we stop SM running game we will be fine. Frady up the middle and Stephens on the outside. Simple to defend. Put out a 5-3 defense and every time Stephens in motion or in the backfield then I would widen out my ends and linebackers and defend the sweep. Dare Smoky to throw. They don’t have a qb that can lead their team to a win throwing the ball.

Interesting that very few folks are giving Swain much hope this week. I tend to think Swain may be better than most think.
At Swain as a home opener so I am sure our boys are going to come out fired up and ready to play!!!! Last week was a “easy” game for Swain and Smoky had a rough week one. I hope we don’t sub one play no matter what the score is. Pound them for 4 quarters!!!
Was a tough game for me to pick, I could just as easily see Swain winning and I might change my mind by tomorrow.
Tomorrow night Swain (and to lesser extent Hayesville) have a chance to prove to people that they are what their fanbase seems to think they are.
I can guarantee stopping Smoky’s run game is not simple. Swain can win, but they have it to do. I’m sure Smoky coaches are thinking the same thing about Swain. Load the box and make them throw it to beat us. Good luck with that.
This game should answer a lot of questions about where Robbinsville and Swain really are in relation to where their fans think they are.

Every team we have played over the last 14 games have loaded the box with 8-9. Ask the 8 teams we have beat in that span how that works out for them. If we open up our passing game it would result in defenses spreading out and will open up the running game even more. But we can still win without throwing a pass. It makes it more difficult but it can and has been done many times.
Swain will not beat Smoky without passing.
They are big strong and fast. To your boys credit, Swain has been a one man show and the teams that have beat Swain have simply stopped Sain. Would love to see him in a balanced offense. Everyone has saw what happened last week when Swain tried to pass against the weakest team on their schedule..I pull for the SMC but I'm afraid Smoky will be too much for a one dimensional offense.

Down 21 points to a 2A school with 17 returning starters on their home field. If Robbinsville had played the 1st quarter like the other 3 , this game could very easily been 35-7 or worse. Now let's see what Swain does.

After watching film I would say so as well. Their backup QB #3 I heard is more athletic than 22.
And who in that span had a decent record? I’ve seen the film from last week and honestly can’t see how you can “open up” the passing game.
Swain has proved many times they can’t throw the ball. I don’t know if they can’t throw it or if they really think they can play smash mouth football. I guess we will see what the Swain coaching staff will decide to do when the run gets shut down tomorrow night.
I know it's not a exact science and doesn't always mean anything, and of course anything can happen between now and the playoffs, injuries ( hope everyone can stay healthy) some teams improve over the year etc. But still interesting to see teams who may play in the playoffs play the same teams in the regular season to maybe get a little bit of an idea how they might match up.
Murphy plays Franklin Friday, Mitchell plays them 9/20.. Mitchell already beat Erwin , Robbinsville plays them 9/6.
