So, Fuller Breaks a 72 Yard Run . . .

And on the next offensive possession, the very first play is a run for Faison.

Was I the only one thinking that didn't make much sense? Faison played well last night and my comment is not meant as a criticism of him, but when your team is struggling mightily to run the ball, when you finally find a guy who appears to perhaps be on the verge of a breakout performance, wouldn't you feed him the ball to see what happens? I just thought that was a head-scratcher. Unless Fuller hurt himself on that celebratory dive into the endzone, I couldn't figure out why we wouldn't go right back to him.

I can see taking him out for one play to rest afte that long run, but he should have been back in - unless he got hurt. Instead, we went to Adaway.

I did note that fuller ran that play almost completely untouched. Perhaps the staff wrote that run off more to the blocking than to the runner?

Just guessing. I assumed he got injured.

I made this point in game thread. Fuller never touched the ball again in the first half after that long td run. Faison played fairly well at times but it's obvious who needs to be getting more carries and is the only one with breakaway speed. I think Fuller had 5 more carries in the second half. Ridiculous.

I noticed there's an article above that says Beamer explains why Fuller went so long without a carry but I can't read it.

Yet the announcers mentioned how SC loves to use the TEs or something to that effect. They obviously haven’t watched our games! LOL (I was waiting to see if they’d mention we ran off perhaps our best TE, but they didn’t.)

It’s just become so endemic of this coaching staff! Fail to play the best at the position, and when you find a play that actually works, shelve it for all eternity. Both are equally dumbfounding!!

I'm not a fan of conspiracies, but that would be the damnednest thing wouldn't it? Of course in the NFL every starter gets paid enough to be involved.

Beamer said in an article on this site that he told them to play Fuller, but they are using a rotation and must have been sticking to that. This reminds me of the first OC Beamer had. I don't get it! Why not play the guy who is making plays?

My question is to that: who's in charge? Sounds like they're ignoring CEO Shane. Fuller scored at the end of the first quarter. He didn't get another carry until 5 minutes into the third quarter. Ridiculous.

Physiologically speaking, that makes sense. It could work. But Alshon was a special talent as a receiver. He could do things that you can't count on Harbor to do.

Harbor was highly rated as a DE end coming out of HS. Beamer was one of the few coaches, if not only, to offer him as a WR. Harbor, with his Olympic dreams, did not want to put on 25 or 30 lbs. to play DE in the SEC. To me, Harbor was a PR recruit.

The main problem with Harbor at WR is that even though he's lightning fast once he gets going, his initial first step isn't quick. You see it in his track meets. He always pulls away about halfway into the race. We just haven't been able to come up with way to get him the ball in space or when he has some momentum going.

Yep, in track, he gets beaten off the line. It takes time 40 to 50 yards to get to the front.

Beamer wanted to say he signed a 5 star so he would have let Harbor play QB if that is what Harbor said he wanted. The other teams recruiting him knew he wasn't going to be a good WR.

there was concern expressed among some on the board about how his speed may not translate. i don't think i was among those and just assumed the coaches would figure out way to utilize the speed. thus far, they have not. in part b/c I just don't think they can. I haven't noticed any great deficiencies with him as far as being a pass catcher, but he just doesn't have a quick first step, which makes sense with his size. once he gets going, nobody's gonna catch him, but it takes a couple seconds for that to happen. he's not a plant a foot and leave you in the dust type. you just don't get many wide open field opportunities in football like he needs.

Of course, he wanted to play WR b/c he didn't want to put on the weight to play DE and ruin his Olympic dreams. And he lost a ton of developmental time pursing the Olympics.

All in all it's been kind of a bust. I mean, if we don't let him play WR, he doesn't come here. I don't think we really lost anything signing him...he's not holding us back...there's just really no way to utilize his greatest asset.

I've learned that HS videos of players tend to be pure highlight reels, usually of plays against very weak opponents. Play in the HS All Star games gives a better idea of how good a player really is since they are having to go against another highly rated player.
