At 6:40pm CDT, I estimate about 25 kids came by to trick or treat. Seems to drop off a little bit every year.

Okay .......

I can respect where you're coming from on that.

I can get deep with it really but this is not the board and place. Just putting a nugget out there that this was actually the time of Year Christ was born not our modern day pagan december 25th. I did lil research that is pretty interesting of the actual time of year etc.. That is why satan has pegged it to have his holiday here and when the satanic occult is doing some serious $#!+ last night and tonight year in year out! GO CATS!!!

53 so far in a Lexington subdivision. buckkiller, not sure what church you are associated with but mine celebrates this as part of the All Saints' observation which is to remember the dead, including saints, who have gone before us. We even placed flowers in a vase in church on Sunday to remember those who we lost this past year. Not sure how that qualifies as Satan's holiday. It's observed in many nations across the world and we also have fun with kids and adults dressing in costumes just for the fun of it. I think you need to lighten up a bit. I've had nothing but a good time handing out candy to kids tonight with nothing bad occurring and lots of smiles and very polite kids coming to our front door.

I live in Oakwood, Ohio now in a neighborhood. Maybe 50 kids came in the first 30 mins in big groups and then none. Lots of kids that don't even live here just get dropped off..

Actually "Halloween" is a garbled translation of "All Hallowed's Eve", which of course is the day before All Saints Day on the church calendar. The worst of Halloween is a perversion of this church holiday, and in some respects I do have misgivings about Halloween as popularly observed.

I don't understand the kids these days, not rude but barely anybody says trick or treat or thank you anymore. They just walk up take candy and leave.

I agree. My wife just remarked similarly. The kids come up hold out their bag for the candy then leave. No trick or treat and only a rare thank you.

Happy to report I received totally the opposite from the kids that came to our house. Just about all of them said both trick or treat and thank you. Left me with a very positive feeling about the kids in our area of town, at least. Lots of smiles and many kids stood there and talked with us as we handed out candy and even after they received theirs. Just a great night around our place anyway.

I understand what you're referring to but it's been that way for many years, even going back to when I was a kid. My church has no problem with it and celebrates with the kids and I don't belong to some wacked out church either, they are actually rather conservative. Having read buck's follow up post as well as his original I just think he is looking way too far into it to find something wrong with Halloween. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I respect his although I don't care for his damning attitude very much, that's a little overboard, in my opinion.

Not a damn one. Now I've got a Jack'o Lantern bucket of candy that seems to keep staring at me. I'm trying to not make eye contact with it.

We used to have 50 or so kids come by, but it has steadily dwindled to 30 a couple of years ago, 5 last year and none this year. One of my wife's friends said they had an event at their church where they had over 400 kids though.

120. When I moved here 12 years ago my neighbor said we'd only get a few because we had a long driveway he and I shared(flag lot). But I give full size candy bars because one guy did to me when I was young. First year was 20, then 40, then 80. High was about 150 a few years ago. One little girl shouted, "I knew it, I knew it. This is the guy that gives out full size candy bars." Most say something nice. I spread 4 different bars and say, "choose one". Twix, Kit Kat, Hershey and double Reese's. Some of the little ones really have a hard time choosing. It's fun.

I'm so sad that my children will likely never trick-or-treat in earnest. By the time I was finishing up my trick-or-treating days, about half the houses had turned off their porch lights from when I can first remember starting.

Walking around recently, more houses are dark. Just makes the trunk-or-treating more enticing and produces a positive feedback loop which I think will eventually lead to no more neighborhood treats... At least where I used to live. All it took was some stories about HIV blood and razor blades in candy to justify taking kids on the easy, "safer" alternative. And yes, a lot of kids in school cited this as the reason their parents gave.

I like the concept of trunk-or-treat for kids who have no alternative, but dammit, the concept is popular with everyone.

YOU DAMN KIDS. GET ON MY LAWN!

I'll go throw my soap box away, now.

Maybe 30, but the town organized a Main St "Trunk or Treat" event for classic car owners (modest number of entries) that seemed to pull a lot of kids, including my own.

Probably 350-400 here in my Louisville neighborhood. About 90% were very polite and said thank you... even the ones wearing UL costumes. The UL kids only got 1 piece of candy though compared to the others getting 2 pieces :)
That's OK. Their parents would assure you that as U of L folk, they enjoy such an embarrassment of riches that treats aren't really necessary. [winking]

The kids in my town don't go eggin' or toilet paperin anymore. It's always been a tradition and even the cops enjoyed chasing us around the woods and town. I may come out of retirement and show'em how it's done!

Murray, KY. We had 350-400 kids before 7:30. Ran out of candy and turned off the light. Doorbell rang a few more times.

Last year my wonderful wife had to pass out candy while I was at CWS and we had twice the usual number. Tonight it was back to normal, about a dozen. Way more leftover candy than is good for me.

Lil trick I learned.. grab a hand full of candy and stick your hand inside their bag, only to drop a piece or 2..

We had about 40-50 here in our neighborhood in Louisville. Had one little boy who wouldn't come up the driveway because the "flying" ghost with green eyes, and my Undertaker music, scared him. It's getting fewer by the year, and I'm really sick of the "older" kids doing it. When your out of elementary school, its time to stop.. maybe up to 6th or 7th grade, but damn if some of these kids don't look old enough to drive!!

I'm 18 but when I was younger I remember how exciting tonight would have been and I also remember the hundreds and hundreds of kids that would flock the streets in Owensboro. Only had 10 kids come by are house in the city limits of Owensboro! Sucks to see Halloween for kids disappearing.

Zero. I have lived on this hill for 20 years and have yet to have the first. It is really long and steep and the kids flat don't even try.

I wasnt at home but my older grandkids who no longer go gave out 200.00 in candy at our house and said the kids were still coming. I had them grab my private stash which was another ten pounds (give or take a pound...or two :) ) of candy and they gave that away too! I drove grandkids and quite a few of my kids and wife around all night pulling a small trailer behind my rhino. They had a blast and between 6 kids they had a full pillowcase and a full wal mart bag each plus whatever they had in their pumpkins by the time we finished. Factor in grandma giving them all their own big bag of mixed chocolates and these kids will be diabetics by morning. I will say I wish I had a Rhino and a trailer when mine were little, thats the way to travel. Jackets, place for candy, a cooler, thermos of coffee. All that was missing was a TV and Im sure thats an option in this day and age!

Also in regards to amount of kids. Im not real familiar with the area we were in as they just moved there but we were out from 6-9 and hit several neighborhoods and there were kids everywhere. On many streets I could barely navigate and I was only driving a Rhino with a 6 foot trailer.

Folks in trucks and cars were just giving up and parking and hoofing it, which IMO is what they should do anyway in a neighborhood where every other house is giving out candy. Too dangerous for the kids when there are so many cars and everyones face is in their phone it seems. These are suburbs with houses close to one another. I could see it if the houses were sprerad oout and driveways long but honestly were I 20 years younger Id have rather walked tonight. When I was out with my kids in the late 70's into the early 90's no one drove. We hoofed it. AND WE LIKED IT !
