Sellers still projected as a 1st round QB, our D leads the SEC in forced turnovers, yet we are this bad anyway????

Sellers is a highly erratic passer.
I don’t see what more the college game can offer him and I don’t know how much more he can offer the college game, whether here, Miami, or wherever. He’s still a projected first rounder and still really talented. The best the that could happen for him is to go to the NFL and sit and learn behind a professional for a year or two.

Sellers is not a leader! The TAMU QB was rallying his teammates on the sideline, while our QB sat on the bench, saying not a word. Plus Sellers is just not a good QB! Holds the ball too long, poor decisions, inaccurate throws!

Sellers plays for Sellers; he has no inclination at all to lead his troops, particularly by example, compounded by the fact that he’s reportedly a smart kid and I don’t doubt it, but his football iq is woefully lacking. All he has is natural ability and if this is all he’s going to give us, especially for $4M, I’d just as soon he move on.

There was a time this offseason that some on the board jumped all over anyone who questioned Sellers.

Even they are finally seeing it now.

The same Sellers who misses open receivers and takes unnecessary sacks, often killing any chance to score on a drive?

And the same D that got torched for over 300 yards in the second half Saturday (and saved from further embarrassment by aTm playing receivers in the first half who apparently lacked opposable thumbs) and then gave up 28 points in a little under 20 minutes (which is an 84 points per game clip)?

That D?

Games are won and lost on the plays made; not on projections, potential and hand-picked stats. The outcome is the sum of those plays.

Both parties have potential... but that's not what wins games; performance does. Here's hoping for better performance from all involved going forward.

Well said.

Aside from Sellers, and lord you are right about him, this is what drives me up the wall about defenders dropping what should be relatively easy interceptions.

We do not enjoy a margin for error; rare are the times we have had in our history. Aside from executing assignments (coaching), when we get a chance to make a play, whether it’s an interception, a tackle, a block, a reception, and now apparently even a throw, we have GOT TO MAKE THAT PLAY or we don’t stand much of a chance oftentimes. Performance, as you say, and it comes from ‘want to’. That is what separates us from the successful programs, and it’s very frustrating to watch athletes the caliber we have (for the most part; we don’t have a Rocket Sanders) that seem to play on ‘get by with’ instead of ‘want to.’

Absolutely collapse on both sides in this game, but I have to give the defense a little more leeway than the offense. As far as the total season goes.

And what better thing for him than to sit behind a legend like Aaron Rodger’s.
Weve seen Sellers potential. Hes been playing behind an FCS caliber O line with Mike Shula as his OC. Imagine Lanorris playing for Ohio State or Indiana, with elite coaching staffs. He would win the Heisman. His backwards running is SO frustrating but can you blame him? He takes pressure almost every snap within 1-2 seconds.

This! We got away from quick passes in the 2nd half and a nice mix of running plays and reverted to a Shula statue in the pocket and again our Oline won't let us play that way, LS had no time to make those plays. 0 sacks in the 1st half, 4 in the 2nd!

This. I don't think he gives 100% effort every game for all 4 quarters. He does enough to show his talent to scouts and that's it.

There is no doubt he holds the ball too long. He’s probably the most mobile and tough to bring down quarterback in college football but has been sacked more than anyone? He is indecisive and needs to process things more quickly to become a better distributor.

Brutal.

Can’t disagree, particularly on the football IQ part. One play on Saturday, he was scrambling and had more than ample time to just throw the ball away because he was well outside of the pocket but instead ran out of bounds for a loss of yardage. No doubt he has been under duress many plays this season, but at some point, he has to smarten up. He seems to panic and throw the ball away when he’s in the pocket then scramble for his life outside of the pocket and take sacks or run out of bounds instead of throwing the ball away.

On another play, he threw the ball from the pocket to…I am not quite sure who. There was no receiver anywhere in the same zip code and, really, not even a defender within 10 yards of the ball. The announcers wondered if he might be called for intentional grounding, and the rafts apparently considered it, but said there would be no flag for it. The thing is, he wasn’t trying to throw the ball away. He just missed that badly.

So now that we're all getting on the same page with respect to Sellers.

Is he worth 3 million+ to bring back next year? Could that money be spent on a new qb? Or some OL, and trot out one of our younger qb's?

Someone posted a link saying hes still a first round draft pick. Maybe its best for everyone if he takes his shot at that.

I remember both of those. Sellers I think doesn’t really know how to play ‘the game’ because I don’t think he ever did coming up. Just speculating, but I think he got in high school and they saw his size and athleticism and put him at qb; he’s consequently playing what he perceives as ‘qb’ instead of playing the game. He’s not playing to ‘win’, he’s playing to ‘play qb’, and thats why he seems so detached and passive. That’s the way it looks to me anyway.

Yes, if he’s projected as 1st round he needs to go. Remember Spurrier always said that to his players even if it meant losing a star. SC saves the NIL $$, Sellers goes 1st round, SC can move on and use $$ for OL

Hard to say. He certainly has not been worth whatever he's getting from NIL this year. He hasn't even earned his scholarship.

I would like to have seen how he would have done behind a good OL. He has regressed tremendously and there could be several reasons (or a combination of factors): Shula messed him up, persistently poor OL play has messed him up, he's not as good as he looked last year.

Is it worth him coming back? I dunno. We'd lose Woods or Noland for sure...but how good are either of them???

I agree with LS is so slow on getting rid of the ball and in my opinion does not see the field.
so many times we have had open guys only to see him run.
opposing teams now know how to defend him.
tackle low around his leg and bring pressure.
im not sure he can play in the NFL.
i hope only the best for him.
the D back side just looked lost, still can’t tackle (wrap up !,,!!).

the non time out call or late time out call is on Beamer.
”I thought it was a incomplete pass” is BS!
And they held Stewart the entire second half and no holding calls.
The Sec is not going to allow any sec contender not make the playoffs.

Stewart’s strength, quickness, and aggressiveness is such that you pretty much have to hold him; I’ve given up complaining about it because it’s fruitless, they’re not going to call it. I think they called one that I remember.

The two calls that p——d me off were their long touchdown pass, might have been their first td, where the guy fell on the ball in the end zone that wasn’t even reviewed. Tell me with a straight face that had that been us it would not have been ‘reviewed’ from six different angles for 5 minutes and ultimately overturned.

The other was the interference call when we had them pinned on like the one foot line.

ESPN didn't really show a good look of the possible bobbled TD catch, I think intentionally.

The PI call was terrible.

BUT, we had A&M at 4th and 12 and allowed the QB to run for a 1st down. We are ultimately culpable. That play thoroughly shifted the game momentum and we never recovered.

The Sellers to Miami narrative is in the mind of Todd McShay, and that is about as far as that will go.

If Sellers thinks he can go in the first two rounds, he should jump at the draft. Hell, he should go if he thinks he can go in the third round. He is not a good qb at all. He is an excellent athlete playing qb, the same as he was in HS. Some blame can be put on poor OL play but he does not do anything to help himself. When he has time to throw, he misses receivers or holds the ball long enough to get sacked. When no one is open and he could scramble for yards, he runs around in the backfield and then runs out of bounds for a loss. He is not smart, the game moves too fast for him.

I have said for a long time, there is a reason no big time schools recruited him. He was a 3 star recruit with offers from Syracuse, Georgia tech, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, UVA, VT, Memphis and Georgia State. Quite a few SC fans bought into the preseason Sellers hype and can't make themselves believe their own eyes.

More of a liability than an asset?
I mean if it means inserting a quarterback who can get the ball in the hands of playmakers and investing in offensive line or a big time defensive tackle then yes. You get your opportunities and you produce or you don’t and we live and die by that rule. 1700 yds 9 tds and 6 int with 37 sacks and 186 yds rushing. Not worth 8 million.

And some of them are now bashing him, hoping we'll forget how they whined about posters questioning him this summer. :) It would be so much better to just admit to being wrong. But some cant do that.

Big question, if Sellars is faltering as a college qb, and his own fans are wanting him to move on, why would an NFL team sign up for that with a first or second round pick?

Can they really be that in love with his physical tools? Do they really believe they can coach out all his faults?

I wonder if taking a chance on a slightly lesser physical specimen is worth it if the guy is actually functioning well as a qb.

Yes, college football is overflowing with great athletes, playing QB requires knowledge of playing the position and some pretty serious smarts, neither of which Sellers seems to have. The NFL is not some sort of developmental league, their small roster size precludes having players who might be good one day after the coaches have taught them the things they need to know to play the position.

Because he’s what..21 years old. Let him develop on an NFL roster with professional quarterback mentors and see where he’s at in his mid 20’s. He can launch the football there no doubt about his arm strength and physical tools. I think he would do well to develop behind Dak Prescott personally.
