a ex football player and a.......nobody.

Cross's comment about someone else's basketball gym just seems to be consistant with what he's on the show to do.

Since he has no background in sports or any established credibily as an expert, he's just left with being an obnoxious prick.

In today's radio, that is what sells.

Back to the 'dump' comment. Basketball gyms dont have to be all that good. Fans make them good or bad.

Go to Duke. Cameron is a high school gym. And probably the hardest place to win in the country if FANS and atmosphere are the only consideration.

Oh, and Southern Miss should be ashamed of the bench seating. That is what makes it a dump.

for Freeze.

Had they spent the money for Leach or Rodriquez, they might have been in a bind to the tune of a 2-3 million dollars a year extra.

They will get the Basketball facility they want. Freeze doenst pan out by year 3, things could get ugly.

We have 15 mil in the bank just for coach's salaries thanks to the Vaught Society. It was set up for football facility upgrades, but with the new campaign taking care of that and the need for money due to Nutt's buyout and new coaches' salaries, we switched its purpose from facilities to coaching salaries

The whole process looks like it was done on a tight budget. Maybe Freeze was the best possible hire you could have made, but even the other candidates were in the same price range.

I think its obvious now that Freeze was not a last resort with Gus going to ASU and Kirby interviewing withUSM. We chose him and paid him more than most people think hedeserved. He brought withhim his best recruiter and three defensive coaches that got him a top 20 defense while running a high powered fast paced offense. I would have liked to throw a mil at a top DC, butthats not what Freeze wanted. We still havent hired an OC and I wouldnt be surprised if we throw a lot at Wilson or Porter. I think the committee decided that therecycled coach idea wasnt right for this time around and went after an up an comer, which are usually cheap.

Hanmudog]Arguably USM is a better job for an up and coming coach than Ole Miss is right now.

Only a flamer could make that an argument. OM hasnowhere to go but up. Get them to a bowl game in two-three years and you've built something. USM has no where to go but down. They arent asgood as their record indicates and any coachwho cant winCUSA in four years or less will be viewed as a failure and will be stuck inHattiesburg until he is fired. But what am I saying, getting three times the money to coach in the SEC with low expectations is idiotic.

The point is that NONE of you candidates were people that other major schools had any realinterest in at all. Freeze very well may be the best of those choices. The point is that you limited your pool of candidates from the beginning because of the budget. That's why we didn't see any of the top names being seriously mentioned.

Ole Miss just finished 2-10 and has not won an SEC game in God knows when and probably won't be any better next year with a tough OOC the next few years. A young coach could very well go to Ole Miss and make more money initially but that might be the last head coaching job he ever gets after being fired in 3-4 years just like the previous three coaches at Ole Miss.

Traditionally Ole Miss is a much better place to coach than USM ( or even MSU for the most part) but right now, the job is fairly toxic until there are some signs of a turnaround.

now, let's qualify the statement. Ole Miss with a stable Athletic Department, a strong President, and a united fan base is INFINITELY better than the USM job. But Ole Miss today, with a dick AD who is a lame duck, a President who is weak as **** with sharks circling, and a fan base taking out full page ads in multiple papers trying to get the President, AD and coach fired is not the most attractive job in the world.

So, this leaves us with two possibilities: 1) Ole Miss got turned down by multiple candidates and is trying to save face at this point. or 2) Ole Miss *%%++# up the coaching search so bad that they actually picked Freeze as a first choice. Either way, you guys look like idiots.

Freeze may work out but he's handicapped by the AD/President situation. A few good wins will bring the fans back into the pen and get the cash flowing again but right now he's looking up out of a pretty deep hole. Personally, I think you guys side stepped an awesome hire in Leach. He was strong enough to deal with the situation in place and a big enough name to bring in talent right away. Even if he was a 4-5 year hire he would leave the program in a good place. Right now Ole Miss has put everything on black and you guys are really, really hoping that roulette wheel pays off. If it doesn't you are going to be sitting in the same **** 4 years down the road with empty stables.

But what do I know...

I knew he was a moderator, I just wanted to call him out on it since I couldn't call him out on the CareBear Board. And I was being nice when I was defending Mullen. Prime is the douche and anytime a State poster tries to talk reason in BAFOOM they are banned.

you call them a douche. Let's not act like there is rational discussion there. You guys can't even admit you have a problem, much less solve it.

I get everyone being pissy at OP4 and I agree he is a toolbag, but the god's sake, Nafoom sucks. Is it really that bad to be banned from there? Since my banning I have joked about it here some but I have not missed 1 decent thread over there. So I guess if you just absolutely cannot handle being banned from a ****** mesage board, sign up for a new username like you did the first time. not hard at all

...but the number of games we've had prematurely ended due to rain in the last year? Zero.

Cross is the definition of a douchebag. Not that this is anything you guys have failed to realize, but I really don't think that fact can be overstated.

From this article http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/games/a/thumbsup.htm, thumbs down actually meant "Mercy":
<h3>Signifying the End of the Fight - Thumbs Up or Not</h3>

When a gladiator went down, cries of Habet, Hoc habet! (He's had it!), and shouts of Mitte! (Let him go!) or Iugula! (Kill him!) could be heard. If able, the wounded gladiator would lay down his shield and raise his left hand to plea for mercy, which the crowd signified either by extending their thumbs up or down (pollice verso), turning the thumb upwards and jabbing it toward the heart (pollicem vertere) also was a sign of disapproval, and approval indicated by pressing the thumb and forefinger together (pollicem premere).
From Gladiators</p><h3>Thumbs Down?</h3>

The editor's gesture signifying that the gladiator should be killed is not exactly thumbs down, but thumbs turned. (http://www.ualberta.ca/~c...ASS_378/Gladiators.html) Christopher S. MacKay says the thumb motion represents the plying of a sword. The editor might also call out, "Cut his throat." In (http://garlic.aitec.edu.a.../Hitch/Thumb/thumb.html) Gestures: Their Origins and Meanings, the authors examine why we falsely believe thumbs up means mercy.</p>

Going to watch a game at Reed Green Coliseum is the worst place I have ever watched a college basketball game. Cross can't say that about too many places being worse than the Rebs, but he has this one right.

It is easy to see how he said it, because with so few fans in attendance it is to see the faults at both.
