Wow another hit for small schools . Funny how charters can manage but public’s can’t

when you aren't legally bound to provide child nutrition services or provide transportation and buses, and can select the students that attend your school, possibly reducing the number of special needs students and state mandated programs, then it is a little easier to see how the charters do it. they get the public money without being held to the state guidelines and standards... it isn't exactly apples to apples.

I have always heard if they accepted state funds they had to let anyone in, unlike private school which doesn't have to. Mount Airy has a charter school with buses that run all the way to King,NC .
Millennium Charter Academy , check on all links on the home page for more info.

Millennium Charter Academy offers 8 boys sports & 9 girls sports
Click on the Millennium Charter Academy link to see sports offered. Football is coming in a few years. It would be curious to see if Coach Holder recently retired from Mount Airy is offered the job as head coach if the football program starts in the next 4 years.

You have to apply and they have certain caps on kids. Amazingly, these charters somehow find room for tall basketball players, good football players and baseball pitchers. The last few seasons a good bit of the 1A state titles in most sports other than football have been charters (basketball, softball, soccer, baseball, etc).

South Robeson has been in our conf. since it began, hate to see them close. This is a very old school with low numbers. Locale is another problem in scheduling of games. But academics are first,it will be fine, work it out.

Guess all those people from Robeson County that have given thousands to Phil Berger got what they wanted. The ones that wanted a charter got what they wanted. The rest are left behind. The state doesn't care. People with money and influence will be taken care of while low income and minorities will be left in the dust.

Charter schools are going up all over NC. You know why and I do to. I can't say on preps. All small schools are going to be effected sooner or later. Money baby. Each charter gets money pulled away from public schools for each student that transferred or starts at charter school. Robeson county said they had 90 teachers might get laid off. This did not just happen,it's been building up for years apparently in Robeson Co. It will work out I'm sure.
