I believe that the reason for scheduling them is that they are a replacement for UAB who had dropped football and this was the only team with an open date on that day.

I believe you are right. We had to give them a return trip to their place next year to get this game.

Might as well take the side trip to New Orleans while we are there.

Wan'na bet we don't buy out that contract before next year?
Seems a little late in the game for exercising that option if it is indeed an option. USM has a solid tradition and I'm sure they want some big games at their place. The abrupt need to fill in for UAB may well have limited UK's negotiating position in the USM contract.

Peace

Have you read the contract?

Can some one on this thread provide some solid argument for why this 2016 Cat team is better than 2015? I can see some serious improvement with the added year of experience of Conrad at TE and the returning stable of RBs, but I think there are more questions this Fall than last year at this same time.

A year older, means a lot in football. Added depth, lots of talent at skill positions.

SM may or may not be a good team but they will not be the team that was so good last year. Neither will we. I think we beat SM handedly but then I thought the same when we played WKU in Nashville. This why they play the games. An easy win in this game for UK could be a sign of a confident team going forward.

Well, some very basic things that come to mind. First, I think we had some real locker room issues last year with the QB controversy. That is gone. We have an OC who is experienced and a better fit, a dedicated QB coach and a talented WR coach. Add that to Boom being healthy, and a lot of experience on the OL and the DB's. We are among the SEC best in RB's, TE's and WR's. We should have a pretty high octane offense.

31 juniors on the roster and 9 seniors this year. Last year was a combined 25 seniors and juniors, half of those were walk-ons.

Hate to bring this thread back up because most of us were wrong but I think it's fair to say USM was better than we thought and UK sadly can't seem to get out of it's own way in second halves of games.

Second half of games ... seasons as well. Need to go ahead and fire ol fat head and send his little butt buddy Elliott with him.

No USM was not better than we thought..
IT's that our defense was worse than ever imagining and it was projected to be really, really bad

My opinion on southern miss hasn't changed.

If we had improved and they still beat us, I'd own it. Unfortunately, we saw the same problems that we have repeatedly seen through the Stoops era.

I've never said it before and hate to do it now but stoops has to go. 4 years of excuses but the same problems that all point to him.

When I saw this game on the schedule last year, I questioned the logic of scheduling this as our home opener.

Naturally, I was assured by one of the geniuses on this board that So Miss would be down, blah, blah.

I have reached a point where all I am interested in are the games themselves.

No recruiting. No predictions. Just watch the games. I've seen a lot, and I've seen a lot of losing.

I don't really care what people say. Because these people keep showing me time and time again they are wrong.

This game was scheduled when UAB dropped football. UK plays in Hattiesburg in 2018 .

I don't get all the love and credit people are giving them. All their wins came against teams with a combined record of 31-75. They beat a grand total of 1 bowl eligible team...ONE! They lost to every single BCS team they played as well. Including getting waxed by WKU. I don't think we should look past them but to put them in the category some fans and pundits are is sort of amusing. Winning one game against a team with a winning record last year playing in a sub par conference doesn't impress me.

It was a nice win for us, after our previous HC moved on...but come on. It was KY. In football. Nothing special.

Wow. Pretty sanctimonious for SEC bottom feeders. UK should have won by sheer talent level alone.

I will take that bet. You guys seem to disregard your a member of our crappy conf for a minor sport.
Shoot I don't mind taking the money and getting a team that will draw more fans on the schedule. A lot of ppl on here like to patronize us and think their return trip would be a huge favor for us. "They need some big games at their place" one even said. Just because UK is SEC doesn't mean it's a big game. We have too many Ole Miss, MSU, LSU, Auburn and Bammer fans in our area that know about Kentucky. While I respect UK and am grateful for the opportunity to play, there is no need for the condescension, especially when it is lacking merit.

congrats on the win, it was well deserved and your team/coaches did what they needed to do to win while ours totally robbed our players and fans.

good luck on the season, I'm sure you guys will improve to the point to contend for a championship. WKU is going to be hard to beat if they handle their road schedule.
