Has to win Southern Miss. No question about it. There's no point in discussing anything else if he loses that game. UL is not quite a must win but it's really close. Stoops does have as much or more talent and should be able to win. Going 0-4 against Petrino would be a total disaster. Possibly even unrecoverable even though he can get 6 wins without UL. He will never succeed here if he can't build a program that is competitive with UL and continuing to lose every year no matter what is not competing. Also Stoops has to at some point prove he can actually beat a good team. He can't go through his tenure here with the definition of success being he has to find at least 6 opponents that are complete basket cases. If you can't beat atleast one good team after 4 or 5 years then you can't succeed in the SEC.
Stoops lost to Petrino while he was at Western.I hope we have a winning season because I would hate to lose Coach Marrow and his recruiting if Stoops leave. I doubt Marrow would stay on with a new regime since he and Stoops are so tight.
I don't disagree with your post, but a loss this year would only be 0-3 vs Petrino, the first loss was against Charlie Strong
You are a special kind of stupid. The Mark Stoops era should be over if we don't go to a bowl game this season. But Barney's dumbazz will probably give him another year. He'll just be delaying the inevitable. There's not another P5 school in the country that would keep a coach after going 4 straight years without a bowl game. But Barney Fife is special like that.

Do you think they are must Wins for Stoops in Year 4 ?

I can't resist once again...Mike LeachIF Stoops is canned then whom do we turn to?
No, it would be 0-4 against Petrino. Stoops lost to Western Kentucky the first season when Petrino was their coach.
But according to the dumbazz, pikespeak, you're a special kind of stupid for thinking that. I'll ask these clowns again, can you name another P5 school in the country that kept their coach after 4 straight years of not going to a bowl game? You can thank that contract extension from 2 years ago for 5 years of Stoops. I think he might already be gone if not for that.
What's up, Mitch? F you too.You are a special kind of stupid.

Frank Beamer at VT, first six years without a bowl, 22-40-1 record and he didn't play in the SEC, ACC, or anything close....
Of course, there were damn few bowls back in those days. FWIW, during those early Beamer years VPI fans were ready to ride him out of town on a rail. Why? Well, the previous 9 years under Bill Dooley before Beamer took over...
1986: 10-1-1 Peach Bowl
1985: 6-5 No Bowl
1984: 8-4 Independence Bowl
1983: 9-2 No Bowl
1982: 7-4 No Bowl
1981: 7-4 No Bowl
1980: 8-4 Peach Bowl
1979: 5-6 No Bowl
1978: 4-7 No Bowl
Things took off again for VPI in their 3rd year (1993) in the newly created Big East Football Conference (established 1991). The BE affiliation gave the former independent a fairly strong conference footing and schedule. Beamer also recognized there was pretty good HS football played in VA and garnered a lot of in state talent that was previously going elsewhere.
Peace

Mark Stoops will not beat Bobby Petrino or Dan Mullen.
Stoops is here 2 more years no matter what. The Mark Stoops era should be over if we don't go to a bowl game this season. But Barney's dumbazz will probably give him another year. Doubt if that entered into it, as Wildcard said, very few bowls back then and his best team in those six years was barely over 500 in a crap conference and his fifth year (Stoops fifth coming up) was below 500, and UK has a MUCH tougher schedule this year than that team. But he followed that his sixth year with only two wins, and he survived. They were on probabtion I believe, and that's why they didn't go to a bowl I believe. Not 100% sure so correct me if wrong.
Love these threads. So, if he loses those two and won all the others ...
I wish I had something more important to do. This thread is a sign my life is a waste.
Yes, but that was 25-30 years ago. Now that I think more about it I believe Beamer did inherit some probation issues...Anyway someone asked for someone that survived not going bowling his first four years and I gave him one that lasted decades that didn't go his first six years AND that won two games his sixth year.
Yes, I think it boils down to that. Even if there are some "good" wins in a 5-6 season it is still a 5-6 season.Bowl game is a must irregardless how he gets their
About as likely of a situation of only winning those 2 games. Laugh at the thread all you want but if UK loses to Southern Miss in week 1, that opens up a can of worms no one wants to be apart of. The little momentum you did gain back after another 5-7 campaign with the offensive hires are gone. QB questions, Defensive questions, head coach questions will blow up all over. Fans are gone, team confidence shot. This isn't basketball where you can shake a bad loss because you have 30 more to go and tournament at the end.
It's why Southern Miss is a must win. To actually think a program like UK would rebound to win the rest of the games outside of UL if they would somehow lose to Southern Miss is a joke.
