Were you at the Rita/Naz game? I have no idea what happened to the Mustangs in that game--same type of game last year as well in Chicago.

Naz just has Rita's number last couple of years.
I was there for both last years and this years game and was surprised - not only at the out come but the spread of points. Not sure if guys were hurt for Rita or what but they look and play like a totally different team now. Hats off to the boys and coaches for the turnaround.

I wonder what happens next year--I believe Naz is coming to Chicago.

Nothing soft about those teams “out west”. They play as challenging of a schedule as the CCL and have brought home a lot of hardware over the years.

But after Batavia’s shenanigans the last 5 years, I couldn’t be more happy that Rita beat them the way they did yesterday.
This is how I feel as well--these teams are not soft.

Michael O'Brien from the Sun Times just put out his Top 25, and explains why Rita has surged to #3. It's a great explanation regarding Rita vs. teams like Batavia and Hersey.

It doesn't shock me. I poste earlier this week that I thought west suburban schools like Batavia and Downers were soft -- and they are. Once they face adversity, they pretty much fold. We had Batavia 14 - 0 in last year's &A championship before they had a single play from scrimmage. DGN was a pushover the year before.

BTW, at least a third of Mt Carmel's "30 mile radius" is underwater.
Upon further review, my post was stupid, mean-spirited, and just plain wrong. My apologies.

MC63 with easily the most misguided, uneducated take of the day. And it’s in a day full of really bad takes, so someone get that man a cheeseburger or some kind of prize

How anyone could watch 2024 MC-Batavia or 2025 SR-Batavia and note the toughness or intangibles of the winning squad over Batavia before citing “hey, this team is just physically superior to the losing team” either isn’t watching or just wants to offer a really bad take they know to be disingenuous.

this isn’t a public/private thing either. It would be like me watching the first half of Laurence vs ESL today and saying “well, those Burbank kids are just soft and they wilted as soon as they were down 9 a few minutes in.” Maybe, just maybe ESL was that much better than SL and the only way the Vikings stay within a few scores is if just about everything bounces their way.

soft west suburban kids. That’s just rich

And i am fully on board stomping on Batavia. Them petitioning up to 7A to avoid ESL deserves to have been beaten. But Rita beats Batavia 95 times out of 100 not because they’re tougher, but just because they’re better.
You're right, as my apology explained.

For me, St. Rita--playing 8A finalist MC, 7A finalist BR, 5A finalist SF and 6A Naz (who was one 2-pt conversion away from being a finalist--have prepared them very well to compete against and beat the top tier teams in the DuKane, the Hersey's, the Prospect's and DGN's of the world.

Those teams are NOT soft. I think Coach Piron is a top Coach in the state. Batavia's in it every year.

When DuKane Wheaton North soundly beat Rita in the '21 Championship game, they were not soft.

Rita has the lines of scrimmages to compete along with a great QB who hands it off to a great and tough RB and who passes to athletic and fast WRs.

Rita also has a coach along with staff who did not give up on his players, held them accountable and got his Seniors to look in the mirror and man up.

They beat a very good IC team in Elmhurst by 17 points (could have been by 30, imo) to get in.

And with confidence are now playing in the 7A Championship game against a rival in BR.

Rice and Rita is an epic match-up. The game will electrify the entire neighborhood. It's bigger than the South Side Irish parade.
With St. Rita vs Brother Rice at 4pm and Mount Carmel at 7pm every able bodied person that traces their bloodlines back to the South Side Catholic Parishes (regardless of their eventual HS affiliation) has to make the trip.
With St. Francis and our brother Augustinians from Providence Catholic and the families that moved out to those areas from the city kicking off at 10am, This coming Saturday in Bloomington isn’t just a game, it’s a pilgrimage.

#2 Chicago Cascia as I recall?
The way I recall from an offseason thread about teams you cheer for. @PowerI66 fandom rides with Palatine I believe and he gave a shout out to St. Rita posters back then. Which then I added Palatine behind @MS4EVER ‘s Hawks as my second favorite Public School. Actually now that I’m back, I have to make good on @eagles2k3! sideline pass for some Pirate football.

If I got any of the above wrong, I apologize. I’ve run into a lot things for a decade

How about it @Wittymoniker1 Still one of the best board memories when @MS4EVER had donuts and coffee with Coach Kuska in ‘21. And then started calling him Todd.

I feel like Celine Dion today, it’s all coming back to me now

Todd or Coach Kuska as some of you call him asked me to bring the stuffing on Thursday. I had to pass this year. Wife’s relatives from Italy are here.

Yep! MS4EVER made the trip to the southside to deliver something. I am sure TK has a few Maine South numbers, as coaches keep in touch. I know for a fact that MS4EVER's number is on there as well. LOL!

Huge s/o to Rita… after the St Francis game earlier in the year I wasn’t sold on Rita at all.. but since that game they have been great.. hats off to the staff on turning this season around in a major way..
I wholeheartedly agree. I thought there was some hope after that loss. After some reflection, I realized the Mustangs were down 17 - 7 and had 4th & 1 on the 4-yard line. I felt they were doing well and should've went for it. Instead, they kick FG to make it 17 -10.

All in the 4th quarter, Rita stopped SF, then threw an interception. They stopped SF again and was driving deep until Rita fumbled. They stopped SF again and had a long reception deep into SF territory, but the WR fumbled the ball. Game over. They didn't give up in that game.

Then along comes the schedule with games against Leo and St. Patrick's--two games I thought they could win. Then, we all know how SR dominated a very good IC team in Elmhurst. As I typed before, Coach Hopkins and his staff held their players accountable, the players looked into the mirror and decided to reach their potential--especially the Seniors. Kudos to the coaching staff led by Coach Hopkins! And kudos to the kids for stepping up!
