I have a problem with people who generalize that anyone who isn’t a liberal progressive socialist is a mouth breathing hillbilly. Get over yourselves.
Well, at least for 2A & 3A Champaign was a good location...GCMS and M-F in the 2A game were each what, a half hour from Memorial Stadium...and Monticello is a Champaign suburb, and Byron travels well...But ISU would be a similar trip for 2A this year, and much more in the middle for the 3A opponents..
1A kinda central location would have been Western...4A Joliet Memorial Stadium...6A Joliet Memorial Stadium again? 5A North Central College? 7A Wheaton or North Central? 8A Soldier Field?
I know when Wilmington played in Champaign, they were really excited to go there...and from Wilmington the drive either to DeKalb or Champaign is about the same time...
Geographically, with no teams south of I-72 in the finals this year Champaign is a trip...The souths being won by Mac in 4A, JCA in 5A and Crete-Monee in 6A doesn't help.

This might be the last thing I ever post on here but I’m good with that. Cross Bones, MC63 and Davidje are the biggest bunch of whiny pieces of garbage I’ve ever come in contact with. I hope they follow Davidje as quickly as possible out of this country. Good riddance.
Boys - simply from the point of raising interest, the games would be played at the most appropriate site near the main population center. That's NIU. I'd rather be at NU, but that would likely be too expensive. I realize tat NIU might not be convenient for downstaters but if you want to raise attendance, play where the people are.
Where does it say that the games must be played in numerical sequence? Instead of wasting prime television time Friday night on 4A, play the 7a game at that time.The IHSA must think outside the box to raise awareness and attendance.
Of course, the extra money would only embolden that antiquated bureaucracy..

This might not be a popular thought but it’s kind of a bad weekend for the games for the more casual fans....families in town ect.

I’m pretty aware of how far left extreme liberals can go. Same thing with far right extremists.
I have problems with many conservative viewpoints as well. I don’t fit into any category very well. I’m fiscally conservative and believe in secure borders and protecting constitutional rights but I’m definitely more socially liberal as far as being pro choice and for the legalization of various drugs and releasing non violent offenders from overcrowded prisons. I don’t favor the USA getting involved in foreign wars or putting our troops in harms way without a serious threat to our citizens or national security.
Mr. Voo: Twice a year I send a very healthy check to Lake County for my property taxes. Those dollars help support the Cook Library in downtown Libertyville. I've live all over the Chicago area (including six suburbs) and it's the best library I've ever experienced.

How does it compare with Hunt Library at NC State University?
I was on the turf. The energy was amazing. Call me fake news too. You couldn't see the crowds because they had moved up under the overhangs to stay dry. That doesn't mean the yelling wasn't palpable on every stop, touchdown, or other big play.
Please watch the TV broadcast tape. And it is amazing the stats sheet provided by the IHSA has attendance listed on all 8 summary sheets and....no numbers are given. It is a fine facility if you are in the press box, but otherwise just too large for HS sports in Illinois. For that matter too large a facility for Northwestern at Illinois College games as well...again look at TV coverage. I am glad some can have a good time viewing the local products.
Read my reply again. I don't have to look at the TV coverage. I was in the bowl, on the turf. TV cameras don't always give the best views.
Say what you will about % of seats filled, there are other factors to consider:
- Organization of the hosting facility (U of I is much better organized than NIU is)
- Distance, quality, quantity of support businesses like hotels, restaurants, etc
- Organization of municipality (City, police, fire, etc)
Right. If we could all be on the turf it is a wonderful experience..agreed as I was on the turf in 2012 with LWE vs. Glenbard West. Would you rather see your favorite band play in a half filled Soldier Field or a packed venue at Wrigley Field. Size matters. Again..I am glad you had a fantastic time. I have my opinion, you have yours. Sitting in the stands at NIU last year was better than 2005 in Champaign LWE vs. Maine South which was considered a huge turnout at the time. Not sure if there are any attendance numbers available. I have travelled to all in different capacities with LWE..2 in Champaign, 1 in Dekalb so I am more than a TV viewer. Also, have been on the turf at ISU 6 times, Louisville twice, Lucas Oil maybe a half dozen as well..turf level does not compare with being in the stands. Appreciate your support of U of I.

I guess at the end of day does it matter to the players where they play? Most are so numb to the experience that it’s probably all a blur to them. So is it about the fans and whether they have a good view or will they be heard? I like ISU because it’s more intimate and I’m a Redbird. Central Illinois weather in late November is preferable too. DeKalb sucks because it’s DeKalb. Champaign or Normal works for me.
The new set up at ISU I believe also is a much better fan experience over Dekalb. Obviously, U of I is not my choice.

From a Geography standpoint Normal/ISU makes the most sense for the entire state. It’s not a bad drive from Chicagoland and also not a bad drive from the population centers in southern IL. I don’t know what the new facilities look like at ISU though (someone said they were doing some renovations?). What is the stadium capacity of ISU’s stadium?
