The more I see this kid improve on the field, and the more I see him saying things like this. The more I want him to be our starting QB for the rest of his time here.

He's improving and the way he faced adversity after fumbling in the red zone and giving up a TD to lead the game winning drive with 9 seconds left. The pass to Badet was perfect and he was getting pressured.

I'm very confident in this kid. Can't wait for the game Saturday.

Johnson has done a few things wrong but a lot of things right. My guess is he will continue to improve every game and that we have our QB for this year and next.

If he deserves it it shouldn't cause a problem with the backups because he will be a sr next year and the can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes you are right but there are no Tom Brady[s in our league. I think he can be in the top half of QB's in SEC by end of season

Play a full game like he did the second half, without the fumble, and we are in great shape for 7 wins. Gran and Hinshaw have really done a great job progressing him and building a game plan around his strengths as well as using the running game to set up the pass.

He can make throws when he is composed

Get rid of the butter fingers and make the easy throws and he's done his job

I look at the throws in the 1:00 drive to win the game, the miss to Baker, and the TD to Badet and I see really good throws. I see 292 yards and I see a QB that can manage this offense. The kid seems to be growing. I seem to recall that he struggled his first few games as a Juco and then turned it on. That suggests he learns and adapts. I am thankful he came to UK.

You take away the fumble returned for a touchdown and we blow out Mississippi State and everyone is talking about how great Johnson is. I've got faith in him as our quarterback.

Also, we are a ways away from being able to line up in conventional offensive sets and beat a lot of teams in the SEC, definitely think a mobile QB is the way for us to go.

Yep. Clean up the devastating fumbles and we're in great shape.

There really can't be enough said about Gran and Hinshaw. They had to entirely recreate the offense 3 games in, and do it on the fly.

The throw to Baker was late and behind him. Should've been an easy 6. Baker still should've caught it, but it basically went from a td to a jump ball due to underthrown.

The throw to Badet to set up the fg was terrific. Interestingly enough, I'd wager the near miss to Baker, where he beat the D deep, loosened up the coverage making his throw to Badet a bit easier.

The throw to Baker was almost 60 yards in the air, plus the wind was a factor. How many successful passes have you seen in KY history that traveled 55+ yards in the air? Most throws have been Hail Mary's, at best. I thought the call for that pass was pretty gutsy and showed confidence in Johnson. It gets picked, game over, we lose. I thought it was a helluva throw and maybe should've been caught for an incredible, game-winning play !!!

Yea johnson needs to secure it better but gran was right he should have never gave johnson the run option there. This offseason is huge for Stephen to build strength.

Good gracious if I read one more excuse on how poorly a ball was thrown that hit Baker in both hands, over 50 yards down the filed, in the end zone, that he drops, one more time, I will puke all over my keyboard.

This times a thousand BPOE! Dorian has missed way to many footballs that hit him in the hands. Help your durn QB out. Your 6'3 and 220 and supposed to be NFL caliber.

Johnson has done a good job. His fumbles are frustrating but he showed moxie on that last drive. I like his demeanor on the field and it's hard to argue with 4-1. His passing accuracy was a lot better the second half of the MSU game.

He threw it late, which caused it to be under thrown.

He should've caught it. He mistimed his jump, then dropped it. Tough catch, but had to be made.

I was addressing the issue of the poster claiming it was a perfect pass.

Who said it was a "perfect pass?"

Stephen has been up and down, but overall, he's aquitted himself well and we're lucky to have him. Ball security dude.
The funny thing to me is how he's been pumped as a dual threat QB. Although he can scramble a bit and is a decent straight line runner, he doesn't have much wiggle and his lack of upper body strength is a downside. He's actually morphing into a pretty decent pocket passing QB despite the hype about his running ability. We should turn him loose down the field like we did in the 2nd half of the MSU game. If he plays well I think we smoke Mizzou.

Agree, and he's already seen the road, Alabama is a tough place... I don't think Mizz fans are fired up as much as Bama.. I think we're ready for the road.. I just hope we win on the road.. That is the next step we take in the SEC...

Totally agree. Basically the perfect backup. Someone who mentally has a high level of understanding, even though his physical skills are limited.

We're very lucky he came here. Don't think Reese could've done this well

Baker has to Catch that pass. But he never does.
Agreed..
That wasn't an easy catch but not a terribly difficult one as well. Baker mis-timed his jump and even on the way down...the ball was in his chest/facemask and the defender didn't poke it out...he simply dropped it.

Totally agree. It wasnt a great throw, or even really good. But it was good enough.

60 yards being off a step or less is pretty good. I doubt you would find many wr's that would complain about that opportunity...

DB needs to make a play...his one handed grab vs EKU for a first down was great, but TD drops vs Miss State, Auburn and Florida, not to mention the USCjr drop last year ... big time players make big time plays in big time games.

Baker has been someone I've wanted to see break loose for a season. Great physical all tools, but has yet to have his Stevie Johnson moment and become the absolute go to guy.
Every big pass he drops, you can kind of see his confidence fade even more.

So... because a ball is thrown late, it is under thrown? That's beautifully wrong. Those two have no correlation.

Gotta' go with Poe on this. Have we seen clearly better throws from Johnson? Yep. But the one being discussed was long, accurate, and without the little "hiccup" step Baker did at the 2 yard line, might have looked perfect.
