Not all students left. My son stayed and he was glad he did. Winning will cure some leaving but not all. Which is ok. Not all students are die hard fans, this comes with age! All the fans that stayed did a great job of cheering.

Wasn't there some college that penalized the students for not attending games or staying for the entire game... I forget the exact penalty, IIRC it had something to do with tickets or forefitting future tickets to games.... seems like I heard that somewhere last season

80% of them did and for the ones that complained about it being too cold, maybe they need to not dress like it is 80° outside...

I saw alot of fans leaving, not just the students. Theres is a huge "the football team sucks" mindset on campus and with UK not being much of a comeback team and down 14-6 at half in a boring 1st half vs a bad oponent, its hard to blame them. Keep winning and the kids will stay, simple as that. The pretty terrible home schedule this year is part to blame. Unless a student is a big football fan, its hard to find motivation to stay when you are losing to one of the worser teams in the SEC. Ecspecially with parties down the street.

We have students that will camp out for a week to get tickets to a basketball practice, but they won't stay 3 hours for a football game.

Look I love both bball and the fball team, but surely you understand the difference in interest levels.

Like I stated earlier, the program just needs to keep winning.

Sorry, not buying it for a minute...if that is your mindset before going to the game, why go at all.

Slugger, how long has it been since u have been in school? Lol. The majority of college kids are at these games to be seen, meet up with friends, and post on snap chat and Instagram. Pathetic I know but its reality. It's a precursor to the parties, hooking up, getting shitfaced etc which is MUCH more entertaining to your average 18-22 year old than UK fball. Heck, it was to me too at that age and I'm a sports fanatic.

combination of a lack of history/general program excitement and horse racing. Same old song and dance this time of year.

UK is not a good enough program to fill the stadium when another event is taking place and/or the weather is turning.

Keeneland is a fun social venue/event for all, especially college students. Kentucky football is not.

By the time the game started 15,000 people had already had a full day of drinking, spending money, eating, socializing at the track. Which is why the attendance wasn't as great as it could have been considering UK is on the uptick.

Also, not a significant financial investment for students at $5 a ticket. So after a quarter they've gotten their money's worth.

They take after their parents, did you see how empty the upper deck was from start to finish last night?? Did you not see how thin the whole place got in the 4th quarter??? Up ten points and people everywhere were bailing out!!

I understand it is the mindset of the students at UK, but why?...like I said earlier you don't see it anywhere else
Two Keys was a lot more fun than 2 less than stellar teams playing football when I was at UK. I'm sure a lot of those students wanted to get a head start on drinking for the night.

When I was at UK back in mid-80s, a lot of the students treated the game like a social event. The frat boys and sorority girls would get all dressed up, and carry on like Blue Runner mentions above. Sounds like nothing has changed since then.

Why do we have night games when it's cold and day games when it's hot?

Post of the century. I guess TV has a lot to do with it but maybe not. I remember when I was a UK student most games were at night. The exception was the Tennessee game. I don't think it was played at night but the early season games were.

I don't know about you, but I received a badge for staying the entire game. Guys in the blue blazers gave it to me with tears in their eyes.
I wear it proudly to this day.

Well from the looks of the stadium, I guess at least they showed up for awhile..looks like many in the top didn't go to begin with. Plus the Ole Kentucky Double...a lot of people were too hammered from Keeneland I assume.

Saban did it at Bama. The students were leaving early or coming late and he make a stink of it. Said they would start identifying which Greek organizations had those seats and would stop giving them tickets, if it did not stop.

There is an easy explanation for that. Camping out for Midnight Madness has evolved to the point of becoming a "UK campus tradition" in the same mold as Friday night Yell Practice before aTm football game. There is no similar "football connection" with the student body.

Here is link to aTm's Yell Practice before the AL game in 2013. This one was bigger than usual but are usually about 20,000 - 25,000 at the rally.

Peace

Try about 20% of them stayed not 80%. The student section was completely empty in the second half unless you count the band. Pathetic showing by the students for such a big SEC game. The team deserves better support from their peers.

From watching on TV, it seemed our fans were strangely quiet the whole night....yeah they cheered when we made a big play, but we never seem to get that loud crowd noise when the other team is driving and facing a crucial 3rd down play. Maybe they've had their hearts broken so many times it's more of a waiting for the other shoe to drop mentality. I understand some of that.

Well theyve seen so many blowouts by the Cats over the past few years, it gets boring for them.

When my dad took me to games as a kid, he taught me to never leave until the final horn sounds. I carried that over to when I attended the games as a student from 1989-1993. And still to this day I stay till the final horn. I can count on one hand the times I've left early in almost 40 years of going to games, and those were for reasons other than the team sucking.

It's the job of the program to make the games interesting to the students. Students shouldn't be expected to attend just because they're students. If the student body feels the football games aren't fun, the university and program have to do something to change that.

Set up Xbox or PS4 games all over the stadium, they wouldn't pay any attention to the game but they would stay until it was over.

I have been to yell practice twice. When UK Plays at A&M down the line, it's a must for our fans to go to.
